bomb blast
“well, no really. I've always wanted all this. Always been this calculative decision making person. Working hard to prove myself with that rush of danger gives me the correct thrill I've always wanted.” I replied. We were in the same position and it felt way more intimate than kissing or any other conversation we’ve ever had.
“you were born for this.” He smiled and I smiled back.
After a few hours of just hitting targets with different weapons we both grabbed water. It was already time of our parents to come back. He just made my anxiety go away with his presence. We sat on the couch and talked about everything and anything to just distract ourselves. We knew our parents were okay and on their way back. Around 5 am we heard the door unlock and the 3 of them made it into the house. I ran to my parents and gave them a hug while Chase gave a curt nod to his dad.
“if it wasn’t for the Patro’s you would have to read a very long 50 page instruction manual about taking over the gang Chase.” His dad said in a voice that sounded like it came from the deepest part of his soul.
“Carl, don’t be ridiculous, we are family and always have no matter what happened in the past and even at that point this situation would’ve arise we would’ve saved you, and you us.” My mom said holding Carl’s hands and nodding.
“you’ve saved the future of my gang and my boy. let us repay this debt by having a dinner just our families.” Uncle said
“This is long overdue, Carl and I think the thanks should go to Val for using the bracelet as a communication device.” My dad stated
“that was very smart thinking Valerie.” His dad said smiling, and I suddenly knew where Chase got this smile and smirk from. I nodded my head as a thanks and looked over at Chase who was mimicking his dad’s expression but his eyes said ‘that’s my girl’ which made my heart skip a beat. I looked back at my mom and I knew she caught us right there. Fuck.
I signaled to chase to stop giving then cues about us and he went into high alert. He typed something on his phone and my phone vibrated as soon as he hit send.
‘you make me forget you're not mine in front of out parents’ his text read and then another one came up,
‘if only they knew what we were doing after the docks’
And with that I was blushing. I looked back at him and rolled my eyes while smiling back. The parents were busy in their own conversation about future plans and old quests.
“well its getting pretty late right now but let’s meet at mine at around 9 pm for a late dinner.” Chase’s dad said and shook my parents hand. Chase followed him but turned to add,
“thank you Mr and Mrs Patro once again. I'll make sure to send a car for you tonight.”
“it was nothing Chase. And don’t worry about the car we know our way to yours” dad said
“Well let me do something for you guys after what’s happened in the past.” He said and I inhaled a deep breath. My parents hate unintentional confrontations.
“ I know you don’t know us as long as your parents do but about our past, we don’t hold grudges with family.” My mom said and gave him a hug which he hesitantly returned. He gave my parents a court nod and left the manor.
“I'm happy you're alive.” I told my parents
“we’re proud of you honey” mom said and dad smiled and nodded in appreciation.
“this is what I was trained for.” I smiled back. Dad excused himself and went to make more calls from his home office and mom went to bed after that day, but on her way up the stairs she turned and commented,
“just cause your dad was shocked about today’s events doesn’t mean I didn’t notice the looks Chase gave you and his eye twitching when I called him family.”
“mom!” I exclaimed and blushed
“don’t even get me started on why he was here this late anyway. We were all shocked to learn about your friendship but your father is going to have a fit if he knows about your more than friends behaviour. I mean you tortured with him so it must be-”
“it’s nothing like that! I was just helping out Anderson with his past” I interrupted her lecture and she hummed and smirked knowingly then left for bed.
We can never hide anything from mothers anyway, especially not the one who knows to read body language better than books.
