Chapter 30
“Assuming I didn't come, would you have agreed to Eren?" I asked as I stopped few meters away from her mansion.
She turned to me unable to find answer. I exhaled, and my breath was visible under the moonlight. As my gaze refused to stay clear off her, I recalled the entirely scenery again. How Eren had curled his arm around her waist, how he had almost killed her, and she didn't resist. How Impulse had thirsted to kill the Dragon Lord.
“Yes. It was the only way to get the Dragon stone,” she muttered, and my palms curled into a fist. Tiny tears began to grace my eyes.
“Are you that desperate?" I asked in a broken voice. "What about me? What about us? So, you were going to marry that bastard all for a useless artifact!"
“That artifact is important than you. And thanks to you, I've lost my chance to get it,” she retorted with a glare and my pain only worsened.
“As far as I'm concerned, there was no us from the beginning. I hated you and I still do. I never wanted you, but you kept on enforcing yourself. You were the one attached not me."
“Green for once!" I raised my voice. "For once be honest with yourself. You say you hate me, you say you don't need me, yet we've done all sort of things together. So, what happened to those moments?" I pursed my lips as the tears dosed.
“What happened to those moments?!" I pitched again. "What happened to the time you used to lean on my shoulders, what happened to our kisses, the sex, the laughter we shared, our arguments, the joy, everything-—” my voice trailed off while her eyes twitched for a split moment.
“How can you say I'm not important? Why can't you see it, why can't you feel the love in your heart? Why can't you just accept the truth?"
For a split moment I could see it. I could see the softness in her eyes but then it reverted back to that cold look.
“You're the fool here,” she scoffed. "Couldn't you see it?" She asked as she inched closer to me. "I was only using you Zeus. You were just an available means to an end. And trust me, I enjoyed every bit of it, I enjoyed manipulating you, I enjoyed using you as my slave, a toy, I enjoyed everything,” she blurted and with every bit of words that toured out, my heart was ripping into shreds.
A tear dropped, My lips parted, my body trembled with my thoughts disoriented. Different memories of our time together raided my head at once. The ugly times and the beautiful ones. For the first time, I was extremely vulnerable. Indeed, I was the fool here.
“You're right," I nodded while my tears freely toured my cheeks. "I'm the fool here. To think that after everything, perhaps you would finally accept me." I pursed my lips, smiling sadly.
“But I was wrong. I was."
My gaze darted to the ground, unable to bear the pain from just staring at her alone. My insides were a burning sensation of brimstone fire. My wolf was whimpering in pain, and I simply wished this was all a nightmare.
“Can I ask something?" I mumbled again. "What did you need them for, what is this dream that is so important?"
“Well since I have no use of you anymore, I can as well tell you." She heaved a light sigh. Her voice devoid of everything but iciness.
“Men are a disease to our world. They corrupt, taint, and tarnish our souls—they're animals. They don't deserve to be in power, they are slaves. And just like I enforced that rule here, I want it in the other species too. The Werewolves, Dragons and Witches, I want every single one of them be treated like one,” she explained with so much delight while I just stared in disbelief.
“The artifacts, The Vampire Gem, The Witches gem, The Werewolf Hide and The Dragon stone, can make this dream achievable. These artifacts will grant me that power to make our world a better place!"
“Can you even hear yourself?" I uttered in oblivion and a frown. "So, because of this atrocious dream of yours you shed the bloods of the innocent.
And you say you want to make the world a better place? By enforcing slavery all because of your traumatic past?!" I growled, she frowned.
“You're not the only one who's had a fucked-up family you know that. Just because you had a bad father doesn't mean all fathers treated their daughters like that. My father wasn't a monster, he was a good man and I'm sure there are still good families out there!" I yelled while her eyes twitched.
“There are still good men out there and you don't have that right to judge us just because of your Father."
“Power corrupts men Zeus,” she toned in a Sinister voice. "They act like gods. Even you, if I give you half of my power and wealth, I'm sure you wouldn't be preaching like a saint."
“Just so you know, I am Zeus Hunter. Because you lock me up in dungeons, torture me, use me like a slave doesn't mean I don't have Power and Wealth." I retorted, and this time I cared less. I didn't mind the anger voicing in my tone.
“I lowered myself to your taste Green. If I wanted, I could have broken out of your prison. I could have rejected you, but I didn't." I paused, glancing around the darkness surrounding us.
“I can't believe I fought by your side all for this nonsensical dream of yours. I can't believe I supported you!"
“Stop talking like you're a saint. You've murdered too, you know. A lot. A lot of innocent people,” she growled.
“And I stopped! I regret every of my past deeds because in the end it all leads to vanity. I got nothing but pain and regrets. That is the same path you're threading now Green."
“I chose this path for the better good,” she quickly asserted.
“No." I retorted gesturing my hands towards her. "You chose this path because you couldn't face your past. You couldn't let go of the trauma. You let it corrupt you." Her eyes exclaimed but I cared less. She was always good at breaking hearts; she should have a taste how it felt too.
I wiped my tears off whilst nodding.
“This is why Martha left you. Because she had finally seen you were wrong and not willing to listen. You say your father was a monster but if you stop to think about your actions so far, to me, to your kind, and to our world at large," I pursed my lips.
“Maybe you're not so different from your Father after all." Tiny tears began to hint in her eyes too, but I still cared less.
“Don't say that,” she growled; her pain evident.
“Isn't it the truth?" I inched closer, she gasped.
“Don't compare me with him,” she said in a weaker voice.
“I'm beginning to regret why I ever met you in the first place." I muttered in the iciest tone my chords could orchestrate but deep inside, I was hurting saying those words. Her once harsh glare were now replaced with a weakened expression.
“So, what now?" She asked in a broken voice. "You're going to reject me?" She asked in a whisper, her fears obvious. But it was too late now, I just couldn't tolerate her after all this.
“I would never but at the same time, I don't want to see you. I don't want to be by your side anymore. I don't want to be with someone that fails to see my worth. I don't want to be with a woman," I pursed as I tucked my hands into my pocket, holding her teary gaze.
“That chooses a nightmare over me." As those words toured out of my mouth, surprisingly my pain subsided. My thoughts were clear, perhaps because I was finally honest with myself.
Her lips parted, I could see her body shuddering, her heart beating faster than usual, her tears fighting to be released. I pulled out the white object in my right pocket.
“The Dragon stone you wanted,” I said before tossing it to the ground. But she didn't even stare at it, her gaze was still on me.
“You have all of them now. You can finally achieve your dream Green,” I said and then walked away from her.
“You knew me Zeus, that I'm a monster yet you decided to stay,” she voiced causing me to stop midway. "Were you trying to change me?"
I stared straight into her grey irises.
“No. I was trying to redeem you." I whispered before resuming my pace.
With every step I took away from her, I was further convinced, that the tiny light amidst her darkness would eventually suffice.
What I wasn't sure of, was us.
