Chapter 46
ELIGOR.
"What do you want to happen? Why are you meddling with my plans, huh?" I asked Loraine in annoyance. She was sitting in front of the counter, holding a wine glass.
"Just having fun, aren't you the only one enjoying it?" She questioned. This girl, I have no idea what she's plotting or what's going on in her mind.
All I know is that she wants to disrupt the peace in this place.
"Retract what you said to Kate. I don't want to alter her memory anymore, and it's harmful when it's done repeatedly." I don't want Kate to lose her sanity or be in danger because of Loraine's manipulations. Mixing fictional scenarios with Kate's real life can be dangerous, and it might drive her mind into chaos, potentially driving her insane.
"Why haven't you explained it to her yet? I thought you talked to her when we got home that day," she replied, shaking her head while leaning on the counter and reaching for her drink.
"I denied it. I said there was nothing between us and that you were just messing around," I answered her, and she burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! Can't you see her getting hurt? You know, Eligor, your condition is getting worse. You might not recover one day, be careful," she retorted, taking another sip from her wine glass and looking for her next victim.
I stared at my reflection in the glass I was holding, and honestly, I was also nervous that Loraine might be right.
Maybe I'm going too far or perhaps I won't be able to return because of the situation I've gotten myself into.
Especially in these past few weeks, when something happened between Kate and me in my apartment. I don't know how I managed to fall asleep that night; I had such a deep sleep that I had my own dream—a dream that an incubus like me should never experience.
We are entities that exist in the dreams of mortals, feeding on their life energy through dream sex, and we don't experience any fatigue or have our own dreams.
So how did I fall asleep that night? I've dozed off a few times before, but I disregarded it. However, in these past few weeks, my dreams have become clearer and I remember them until morning.
Honestly, I'm nervous. I don't know if I'm falling for Kate, which is why I'm acting this way.
I know Kate is serious about the relationship we have, and to be honest, it's me who's still unsure about my true feelings or if I can risk my incubus nature in exchange for immortality and her love.
"Hey, isn't that Gadreel over there?" Loraine asked me, and I turned in the direction she was pointing.
There, I saw Gadreel drinking and making out with some other woman. He seemed busy with whoever he could get his hands on.
"There's something different about that guy," Loraine replied, so I looked at her with curiosity.
"What do you mean?" I asked, and she tilted her head slightly while thinking.
"I don't know, I can't explain it. It's like there's something about him. Sometimes I can't penetrate his mind, and one time I tried to visit him in his dream, but I couldn't get in." I furrowed my brow.
"What? How did that happen when I often play with him in his dreams? Don't you see his dark under-eye circles?" I asked because I've been messing with Gadreel in his dreams when I have nothing else to do. He should be grateful I haven't killed him yet.
"What!? Why can't I get in? Do you think he has an amulet or dream catcher for succubi?" I shrugged, I have no idea about that guy.
"Don't they have those things? Something that can protect them. There are different kinds if I remember correctly. There's an amulet that can prevent a dream demon from having sex with the amulet's owner, but if there's another demon that wants to enter their dream to visit them, they can get in," Loraine explained, and I raised an eyebrow at her explanation.
"So you're planning to make him your prey? And you're thinking that he has a dream catcher or amulet?" I asked, and she laughed, flashing a smile at me.
"Yes, of course. He's handsome, so why not?" she replied, and I looked at Gadreel's direction again.
If Loraine's suspicion about Gadreel is true, then there's a chance that he'll recognize us now. There's a chance that the body switch won't work on him, but based on what I see, he doesn't notice us even though he has glanced in our direction several times.
"Does your memory alteration work on him in school too?" I asked Loraine, and she nodded.
"Yes, I don't see any problems with him. He doesn't seem suspicious or doubtful of me either, hahaha." Loraine stood up and waved at me.
"Bye, Eli, I'm going to hunt now!" I waved back at her and finished my drink before returning to the apartment.
***
3 AM
I saw him sitting on his bed, still not asleep, with Gadreel resting his head against the headboard, waiting for morning to come.
Looks like he won't be sleeping again tonight. I'm so bored, and I want to hurt him as soon as he closes his eyes.
But Gadreel is smart. He knows I only attack when he's asleep at night, so he usually takes naps during break time and free hours at work.
Ever since he played with Kate, I started playing with him in his dreams. At first, I really planned to kill him. I gradually inflicted pain on him in his dreams, like punches, choking, and scratches in places no one could see.
But now, I've decided to stop and just mess with him. It would be more satisfying to prolong his suffering.
Just like he prolonged his deception with Katelyn.
I affect anything connected to Kate. That's why I continue to torment this lunatic.
"Sh*t, I'm getting sleepy. I want to sleep," I heard him mutter as he took something from his pocket—a small keychain, a dream catcher.
How did he get that keychain? Wasn't it Kate's keychain?
He looked at the key chain and put it back in his pocket, then closed his eyes. It seemed like he couldn't handle the drowsiness anymore.
I smirked. I didn't know how he ended up with that thing, but now I would find out the reason.
I waited for him to fall asleep, and after a few minutes, his body and mind gave in to sleep. It was obvious that he hadn't had proper sleep in weeks.
I immediately entered his dream and saw a dark place, so dark with no hint of light around.
"Here you are again, you beast!" I turned around and felt a strong blow to my head. I fell to my knees from the force, unable to believe that someone could do this to me inside a dream.
Don't tell me he's also a lucid dreamer? But he couldn't do this before.
"I knew you would visit me in my dreams again. You're an incubus, right?" he asked, surprising me. How did he know?
"You're really giving me a headache, you know? I spent weeks learning how to become a lucid dreamer because of your disturbances," he replied, smiling like a maniac.
Did I harass him too much that he's now fighting back?
"I know you're a sex demon, but you're a man, right? Why don't you introduce me to your succubus friends so I can have a great sex experience?"
His answer bewildered me. He probably studied about us sex demons, but I didn't expect that he wanted to meet succubi to become his sex partner.
There's no denying that this man is addicted to sex. It's the only thing on his mind, exploring the paranormal world just for the sake of sexual experiences.
"Why can't you speak? Aren't you going to hurt me now? I can fight you," he said, and I still remained silent.
Luckily, he couldn't see my true form. I'm sure he only sees a black shadow in front of him now.
"You're not speaking? Are you just going to listen to me tonight?" he asked, and I took a step back.
"Then I will ask you something," he said, lowering the board he was holding. He looked at me, his lips curling into a half-smile.
"Are you connected to Kate?" he asked, catching me off guard.
"You see, I found this dream catcher at the camping site when we took a break together, but I always saw it hanging on her phone and in her room." I fell silent. What else does this man know?
"I found it weird, but she told me about it, especially its background story because of her mother's mental state. I found it interesting, so I did some research, and now everything is connected," he explained while playing with the dream catcher he held.
As a lucid dreamer, he could easily manipulate his own dreams, and it would be difficult for me to alter his memory, especially with him holding that dream catcher.
That damn dream catcher gives me so many headaches! That old hag who sold it will pay for this!
"At first, I couldn't believe what I discovered, but since you've been keeping me awake every night and hurting me, I finally believed that paranormal activities like this are real," he said, slowly stepping closer to me.
"Hey, say something. Aren't you always laughing at me?" he asked, stopping in his tracks as we faced each other.
"Tell me your name," he commanded, but I didn't respond.
"Or if you want, I won't interfere with what's happening now, but instead, give me a succubus," he replied.
Gadreel has lost his mind. He's willing to do anything to satisfy his desires.
"If I am right, you're the reason for Katelyn's or Kate's mother's trauma. If you do what I want, I won't meddle in your plans with Kate." This guy is really threatening me.
He must think he's winning against me because he can control his dreams, but little does he know, there's a lot more I can do to him.
I'm just worried about the information he possesses. I don't know if Kate would believe what he says, but I don't want to take that risk.
"I am not," I replied shortly because I'm not really the reason behind Kate's mother's trauma. Katelyn is the only one who matters to me.
"Hahaha! So you finally answered. It means you know Kate or you also visit her in her dreams for sex? Am I correct? That's probably why she changed so much; she looks liberated."
Damn! I want to break his neck. If it weren't for the dream catcher in his pocket, I might have killed him. All I can do to him now is hurt him and scare him.
But I don't think that would work anymore.
I looked at him, and he was still smiling at me.
"So, tell me your name. Are you Eligor?"
