Chapter 122 Chapter 122: The Wolf Rush Adrenaline

Chapter 122 Chapter 122: The Wolf Rush Adrenaline
I don’t know when I fall asleep, but the next thing I know, I’m opening my eyes with Zadok’s arm on my stomach, his scent inebriating my senses.
I shift a little to check him over my shoulder and find his beautiful features resting peacefully on the pillow.
For a whole minute, I simply stare at him, watching his lashes flutter slightly, and his chest move calmly under his breath. Memories from last night invade my brain, and my cheeks burn.
I can’t believe we finally did it. I’m still astonished at how good it felt, but more than that, I’m happy that we’re on good terms again.
Given everything that’s happening, being back with Zadok gives me the strength I need to keep fighting. Having him beside me the whole time without being able to hold and trust him was excruciating.
I chose to forgive him and turn that page, leaving it all in the past. I’m starting a new chapter of my life. One that I hope I can win in the end.
“Good morning.” Zadok’s sleepy and hoarse voice pulls me back to reality.
He’s looking at me with curiosity, his grip tightening on my waist, pulling me toward him.
His warmth engulfs me immediately, and I melt into him.
“What were you thinking about?” he murmurs against my hair, pulling away just enough to look me in the eyes. “You seemed far away.”
I shrug. “Just that my life is about to change again, and even with all the chaos out there, I am happy to have you with me.”
I should feel guilty for feeling like this while everyone is out there fighting to protect me and the kingdom.
But am I not about to do the same? Risk my life to help everyone? Is it too bad that I’m enjoying a last moment of peace and happiness before I step back into my hectic life?
Zadok places a soft kiss on my forehead.
“I’m happy to be here with you too. Even if I don’t agree with your choices completely, I understand why you’re doing it, and I’m proud of you.”
My heart flutters in my chest, but before I can say anything else, someone knocks on the door.
“Are you all decent? I’m coming in…” Amser’s voice reaches us through the thick wood.
My eyes widen in shock as I pull away from Zadok and jump out of bed, bringing the sheet with me, leaving him completely naked.
He smirks when he notices me blushing, but I urge him to get dressed, gesturing for him to open the door while I head to the bathroom for a shower. I’m sure Amser won’t give me a moment of peace today, so I need to be well prepared.
“Just a minute!” I yell as I grab the clothes spread on the floor on my way and toss them to Zadok, who’s already off the bed and dressing up.
I’m already stepping into the shower when I hear Zadok greeting her. I let the water fall over my hair, relishing it for a minute before telling myself I have no time for this.
I wish I could carry Zadok’s scent on my skin a little longer. I wish I could dwell on the memories of his hands on me last night.
But I have work to do.
As soon as I’m out of the bathroom, Amser’s eyes narrow on me, studying me as if she can sense what happened here last night. Which, to be honest, I’m pretty sure she does. I’m probably radiating bliss and satisfaction through my every pore.
Zadok is not hiding the smile on his face either, and Amser is not stupid. I’m particularly thankful that she doesn’t mention it, though, even if her eyes move from one to another as we all grab breakfast together.
After we’re done, she gives me no time to rest.
We step out to the back of the cabin, where she has already prepared everything. There’s a table filled with all sorts of guns, blades, and knives. My eyes widen when I see that there are at least three times the amount of weapons in several bags set aside.
God, it will take me forever to embed them all.
“Okay, let’s get started. We don’t have much time to work on techniques, so you’re going to simply focus on each one of these, and send as much energy as you can to them,” Amser begins, walking to the table and grabbing a small blade from it. Then she turns to me. “We’re away from the water, so this might be a bit harder than you’re used to, so make sure to take some rest when you feel like you’re drained. I brought some energy potions that will help you recover faster.”
I nod, unable to form proper words. I suddenly feel nervous.
What if I can’t do it? What if my powers don’t work? Or what if they do, and I can’t control them?
“Hettie…” Zadok calls me, and I snap my head in his direction. He’s leaning against a tree, his arms crossed in front of his chest, his brows creased. “You’re overthinking. Just focus on what you have to do. One step at a time.”
Right…
I look around, noticing some of the king’s guards ready to step in if needed.
Amser sets the blade she’s holding on the ground, a few feet away from the house, making sure no one is close enough to be hit by mistake.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath, summoning the energy I can feel from the soil. She was right. It is harder than I’m used to, but I can feel the water beneath it anyway.
I kick my shoes away, firming my feet deeper in the dirt. I isolate myself in an imaginary bubble, closing my ears to any noise that might distract me.
When I feel the first wave of supernatural energy course through me, I gather it all in my hands, and with a swift gesture, I aim and throw it at the blade.
A spark of blue light hits the weapon, causing a burning hiss to echo through the woods. Then we all watch as it seems to absorb the energy, leaving behind only a faint smoke.
“Did it work?” I ask, turning to Amser, who has her eyes on the blade and her mouth slightly open.
“Okay, that was incredible,” she murmurs, walking toward the blade and squatting beside it. She fidgets with it in her hands, analyzing it closely.
“It worked.” She looks up at me, a wide smile spreading on her lips. “That was super fast and strong. You didn’t even need water to do it. Are you feeling okay?”
I nod sharply. “Yes. More than okay, actually. I feel…hyped. Like I just drank dozens of cans of Wolf Rush.”
Gia gave me a sip of this energetic drink once, and I felt like I was having a heart attack.
Right now, the amount of adrenaline pumping in my veins makes me believe I’ll get that table of weapons done by the end of the day.
