Chapter 232: Mia Loses Her Temper 2
Everything he did was just to push her away, to not burden her, to not cause her trouble.
But he still ended up causing her trouble.
Every time she picked something up and threw it in the trash, it hurt him.
It hurt badly.
The scene before him made it clear just how much he would drag her down in the future.
He buried all his heartache deep inside, and what came out were hurtful words.
Like an enraged lion, furious, he shouted angrily at Mia's back.
"Mia, I'm telling you one last time, get out! Get as far away as possible, do you hear me?!"
Seeing that Mia acted as if she hadn't heard, James grabbed the toothbrush cup from the small table in front of him and smashed it hard near her as she crouched on the floor. "I said get out, do you hear me? Get out!"
The cup landed beside her hand, water splashing onto the back of her hand.
Mia's hand tightened as she was picking things up.
James on the bed wasn't done yet.
When throwing the cup got him no reaction, he started throwing the toothbrush, still aiming near her hand.
It looked forceful, but none of it actually hit her.
While throwing things, he kept shouting hysterically at her: "Get out! You have to get out!"
Mia hadn't wanted to argue with James.
She knew very well what his intentions were.
But hearing him tell her to get out over and over again was getting on her nerves.
She still couldn't help getting angry.
She gripped the cup, slowly stood up, anger clearly showing in her eyes, and looked at James. "Have you made enough of a scene?"
Their eyes clashed again in midair.
James saw the anger in Mia's eyes.
He had finally made her angry.
Because of her anger, her gaze on him was noticeably several degrees colder.
Just staring straight at him like that.
Leaving him nowhere to hide.
"Who's making a scene? I just want you to—"
The words were right on the tip of his tongue.
Before he could say them, James saw Mia's aura turn even colder.
She was angry because he kept telling her to get out.
As long as he continued,
hecould successfully drive Mia away.
But—
Always decisive and straightforward, never one to drag things out, once again his mouth didn't follow his reason.
His rational voice reminded him countless times that he was just one final blow away from success, just say it.
But before he could finish, he saw Mia throw the cup in her hand directly onto the bed.
Right beside his hand, just like he had done.
Aggressive.
Full of presence.
She stared at James with eyes full of fury, but her tone showed no emotion as she said seriously: "James, if you dare tell me to get out one more time, I'll leave right now."
"But I'm telling you, once I walk out of your house today, you'll never see me again in this lifetime."
"We'll cut ties completely, never contact each other again until we die, we'll never see each other again."
Her tone was calm and measured.
But her words carried tremendous weight.
She was threatening him.
Mia's words successfully blocked the words that had been on the tip of James's tongue, making him afraid to say them.
He had already experienced how determined and ruthless Mia could be once she made a decision.
There was no changing it.
Back when she wanted a divorce, to force him to divorce her, everything she did—
If he really made Mia decide to reach the point of never contacting each other again until death,
To avoid seeing him again, to not give him a chance to appear before her, she would likely choose to leave Imperial City and go somewhere he couldn't find her.
Then he would truly never see Mia again.
He just didn't want to burden Mia; he hadn't planned on truly never contacting each other again, never seeing each other in this life.
Even if he couldn't be with Mia, he could still secretly watch her from afar in the future.
If they really never saw each other again,
how would he get through the rest of his life?
Seeing that her words had the desired effect, Mia didn't continue pressing.
She softened her tone. "Stop being dramatic."
She withdrew her gaze, bent down to pick up the cup, and was bending to pick up the toothbrush when she heard James ask her in a very low voice behind her, "Did you find out?"
Other than this, he couldn't think of why Mia would be so tolerant of him.
When he called her to break up, she was completely indifferent, ending things cleanly and decisively.
Swift and resolute, without a trace of attachment.
Since their divorce, between them, he was always the one giving in; when had she ever been patient and accommodating?
But just now, she had clearly been angry.
Given her current personality, if he made her angry, she would have already walked out the door.
Not only did she not leave, she quickly suppressed her anger and spoke to him gently.
The only possibility was that she knew the truth.
Because she felt he had become disabled in both legs trying to save her, she felt guilty, so she kept tolerating his bad temper.
"Yes, I know everything."
Mia didn't deny it.
"Mia, this has nothing to do with you."
"Amelia targeted you because I didn't handle my relationship with her properly."
"Stopping her from hurting you was what I should have done. I planted the bad seed myself, I'll taste the consequences myself. It has nothing to do with you. You don't need to feel guilty and come take care of me."
"Really, you don't need to!"
"Just go,I can take care of myself."
Mia was completely speechless.
To drive her away, he really would say anything.
Looking like such a mess, he still had the nerve to say he could take care of himself.
"James, forgive my poor eyesight, but looking at you right now, I really can't see how you can take care of yourself."
"If you really don't want to see me, first show me that you can. When that time comes, I'll do as you wish and won't appear before you again."
