Chapter 185: The Future is Long
Seeing Mia, James rushed over to her in just a few quick strides, his eyes full of worry. "Mia—are you okay?"
Before he could finish, Mia cut him off coldly. "James, who told you to come in? Get out! I don't want to see you!"
She was still feeling really uncomfortable from taking the morning-after pill. She felt terrible.
The worse she felt, the more she remembered it was caused by the pill, and inevitably thought about James reminding her to take it.
Mia stepped forward, raised her hand to push James toward the door, and opened it. "Get out!"
"Mia, I have something I want to say to you."
"I have nothing to say to you!"
Looking at Mia, who looked unwell but had stubborn eyes, James helplessly raised his voice: "Mia!"
"Get out!"
James raised his voice, but Mia's voice was even louder than his!
He looked down at her.
She looked up and glared at him.
At a height disadvantage.
But not backing down one bit in attitude.
"Mia, you're not feeling well. Close the door first, and let's sit down on the sofa and talk calmly."
James softened his tone, trying to coax her.
"Talk about what? Reminding me to take the pill again?"
"James, I already told you before—I took it as soon as I left your place. Or are you worried I lied to you and want to watch me take it again?"
Mia really didn't want to face James right now.
Since waking up today, things had been getting out of control.
She wasn't feeling well, and she was in a weak state.
She didn't want to face James when she was vulnerable.
She needed to be alone and calm down.
Why did she get so angry when James told her to take the pill?
She only wanted to be ordinary friends, but how did their relationship turn into this?
She couldn't face him as calmly as she did right after the divorce.
This feeling wasn't good at all.
There was an unbridgeable gap between them.
She couldn't accept his affair during their marriage, and she couldn't start over with him.
She would be scared, resistant, afraid of going through that kind of hurt and torment again in the future.
Between them, things should end with last night's accident.
They should be even!
"Mia!"
James looked at Mia, who wouldn't back down an inch. The stubbornness in her eyes left him helpless.
He compromised again!
"Fine, I'll go!"
Before turning around, James looked at Mia and said: "Mia, I really want to start over with you, and I really want us to have another child."
Mia's current state wasn't suitable for talking about how he might have contracted AIDS and dragged her into it.
But he still wanted her to know his feelings toward her.
Right after the divorce, he didn't dare show too much, afraid she'd be disgusted and reject him.
But after last night, he had some confidence and wanted to clearly tell her what he was thinking.
"The reason I asked you to take the pill has to do with me. You don't want to hear it now, so I won't explain more. Rest well, I'm leaving."
After speaking, he saw that Mia's expression hadn't changed at all.
James turned around with a dejected look and walked out.
He actually really wanted to stay and take care of her.
But looking at Mia now, she clearly didn't want to see him, let alone let him stay to take care of her.
"Wait."
James had just stepped his long leg out when he suddenly heard Mia speak behind him.
The leg that had stepped out quickly came back, and he turned around.
The hope in James's eyes that she'd called him back because she'd softened and would let him stay was too obvious. Mia deliberately ignored it. "The key."
She looked at him.
Under her stare, he could only reach into his pocket, take out the key, and hand it to her.
Mia reached out to take it, using her eyes to signal him to leave.
James stepped out again. As soon as he was out, Mia slammed the door in his face.
...
Dining room
Mia sat, slowly sipping the porridge Lily had made for her.
Her gaze swept over the key on the table.
She already had an answer in her heart about why he had a key to this place.
When the landlord suddenly lowered the price back then, the reason seemed reasonable, and she hadn't thought much about it.
But now, it was obvious that James had bought the place after learning she liked it, then rented it to her at a low price.
She took another sip of porridge and slowly swallowed.
If she had known right after the divorce that he was quietly doing these things behind her back, she probably would have been very angry.
Angry that he was interfering in her life.
Back then, she was too bothered by the humiliation of James keeping a mistress.
She was determined to be independent, to break away from him, not to depend on him.
But now...
She didn't feel angry at all.
After last night, her attitude toward James was clearly changing.
It was a bit unexpected.
But also seemed natural.
After tonight, everything would go back to square one.
Mia didn't want to think about it anymore.
...
Under the cover of night, mixed with the sound of waves was a woman's seductive moaning.
By some rocks on the beach in Imperial City, Amelia was pressed against a rock, having been worked over for quite a while.
Her body hurt, but she didn't show it on her face at all. Her arms wrapped around the shoulders of a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties.
Every so often she'd say "you're so good," then "you're so amazing," each cry more sultry than the last.
Greatly satisfying the vanity of the man in front of her.
Seeing the man was sufficiently charmed by her, Amelia suppressed her disgust, took the initiative to kiss his lips, and gave him a lingering, seductive kiss.
While the man was entranced, she said coquettishly: "Roy Murphy, first get me out of Imperial City. We have all the time in the world. On the way, however you want to have fun, I'll let you. Just arrange for me to get on a boat first, okay?"
