Chapter 153: Redemption
Mia pushed open the door and was greeted by James standing in the entryway, holding a bouquet of yellow roses.
The living room lights were off, but she could see clearly because there were many candles lit in the room behind him.
He stood in front of the flickering candles. When he saw her, he immediately held out the flowers to her, "Mia..."
Yellow roses meant apology. He was apologizing to her.
Mia looked at James calmly, didn't take the flowers, and walked inside.
Standing in the doorway, she could now clearly see what was arranged behind him with candles and yellow roses: "Wife, I'm sorry."
Seeing all this now, Mia felt nothing but a sigh and exhaustion inside.
So inappropriate.
This was the kind of thing people did at school when she was a junior - to confess their feelings or apologize.
Once, James had picked her up and happened to see someone doing this to apologize.
On the playground, candles and flower petals arranged in a heart shape for an apology.
The guy stood among the candles, holding flowers, and the girl threw herself into his arms, moved.
At the time, seeing his speechless expression, she knew he thought it was childish.
She deliberately said he didn't understand.
She said this trick really works, next time I'm mad, you can use it to make me feel better.
Actually, she just wanted to see how silly James would look doing this.
Her trick wasn't something James liked.
She snorted lightly, pulled her hand away from his and walked forward, muttering under her breath.
"You just don't care about me, you make me angry and won't even try to make me feel better!"
The moment she pulled her hand away, James pulled her back into his arms.
Standing under the tree-lined path, his large hand grabbed her hips and pressed her forward.
The two embraced intimately under the tree.
He bent down slightly, his lips close to her ear, his hot breath on her ear, biting her earlobe, he chuckled, "Mad at me?"
Mia deliberately huffed!
James suddenly picked her up face to face, quickened his pace, carried her into the car, and got in after her.
Mia immediately backed away, "James, what are you doing!"
"Making you feel better!"
James pulled Mia back and pressed her down.
"I'm not mad anymore, not mad, you don't need to!"
His way of making her feel better was too much for her.
Especially at school.
But James wasn't that easy to get rid of.
In the end, although he didn't do it in the car, when they got home, he still used his way to make her feel better.
He made her feel so good that she took the morning off the next day.
Mia looked at James's sincere face. It was almost ten o'clock, she was tired and had no energy to deal with him, she just wanted to take a shower and rest.
After changing shoes, looking at the flowers and candles blocking her way, Mia just stepped on them.
Wherever her foot landed, the delicate petals became crushed flowers.
In her eyes, all this was meaningless.
All she wanted was divorce, but he clearly knew this, yet stubbornly refused to let go, choosing to do these things instead.
And she had no choice but to continue tormenting him until he was willing to let go.
...
Mia walked in, grabbed her pajamas, and walked into the bathroom under James's gaze.
She turned on the water and started showering.
Halfway through, she heard footsteps outside.
Her movements clearly paused.
After waiting a few seconds and James didn't come in, her tense body relaxed.
When Mia finished showering and came out, she saw James waiting outside the bathroom.
She walked right past him, heading out.
The moment they passed each other, her hand was caught by James again.
His tall figure was completely dejected.
Even though he was visually much taller than Mia, somehow he seemed very, very low.
He looked at Mia's cold face, his large hand couldn't help but lift up, wanting to gently touch her face.
But his hand had just lifted when Mia blocked it.
She refused his tender touch.
James slowly withdrew his hand, looking at her, "Mia, can you tell me what I need to do for you to be willing to try to forgive me?"
He didn't dare ask for forgiveness directly, but he wanted to ask for a chance.
As long as she was willing to give him a chance, he would do whatever she asked.
"Divorce!"
The words came out without hesitation.
The price of forgiving once was too high, she couldn't try a second time.
As soon as the words fell, Mia clearly felt the grip on her wrist tighten.
She slowly turned her head to look at James beside her.
Seeing his expression quickly become tense, Mia knew he still didn't want a divorce.
Just as she had thought, even if she had told him the truth about the child the first moment he questioned her, he still wouldn't divorce, still wouldn't let her go.
Before, she would have been angry at this behavior, would have cursed at him, but now—
Mia just pulled her hand back with a cold expression and turned to go upstairs.
...
At the company, another busy day, and in a blink it was time to get off work.
For the first time, Mia turned off her computer right at quitting time, got up and quickly walked out.
She took the subway to the agreed-upon mall. Coming out of the subway exit, she saw from afar a familiar figure standing in front of a luxury car, talking on the phone.
