Chapter 116: Moving Out
Mia didn't look at the shattered ceramic pieces on the floor. She just stared coldly at the man standing in front of her. "James, stop doing these pointless things. It's really ridiculous."
Betraying her, then giving her gifts.
Didn't he find that ironic?
She finished speaking with a cold expression, didn't bother looking at James's face again, and walked past him unmoved. "Have dinner sent to my room."
After giving that instruction, she went straight upstairs, leaving James with her heartless back.
Until she walked into her room and the door slowly closed behind her.
Mia leaned her back against the door to support herself.
She slowly looked down at the hand she had just used, her lips trembling uncontrollably, and closed her eyes in pain.
Downstairs, James stood alone in the entrance, staring at the broken pieces on the floor for a long time without moving.
The same spot, the same ceramic.
So this was how much it hurt to have your sincere heart shattered.
Mia was so afraid of pain. That day when he broke the ceramic, she must have been in so much pain!
James's heart instantly felt like it was being pricked by needles, aching all over. A bitter smile appeared at the corner of his lips.
What should he do?
……
The next day, after James left, Mia went downstairs for breakfast.
After eating, she changed clothes and went out for job interviews.
She had sent out resumes yesterday and scheduled interviews with four companies for today.
"Ms. Wilson, may I ask if you're planning to remarry in the next few years?"
"No." This was the third time she'd answered this question today, and her tone was firmer each time.
Just as the interviewer was satisfied and about to move on to the next question, Mia spoke up again: "I'm pregnant, over three months."
"But I can guarantee it won't affect my work at all. I will definitely—"
The interviewer interrupted her with an official smile: "Ms. Wilson, overtime is normal at our company. Your situation isn't quite suitable."
"I understand, thank you." With that said, Mia smiled and got up to leave.
Coming out of the office building, the smile slowly faded from her face.
Head hanging low, she slowly walked down the steps.
Though expected, she still couldn't help feeling down.
From being full of confidence when she left home to being knocked down by reality three times in a row.
For the first time, she truly felt how unfriendly the workplace was to pregnant women.
Mia walked down the steps, stood still, took a deep breath, and touched her belly to encourage herself. "Baby, I'll take you to eat something good first. We'll eat until we're full, then I'll keep trying!"
In others' eyes, the child in her belly might be a burden, but to her, it was her treasure.
She picked a clean, affordable restaurant nearby and ordered a nutritious meal to recharge her energy.
Not far away, James sat in his car, watching Mia through the glass.
Knowing she was out looking for work, his first reaction was to stop her. But quickly, he pushed that thought away.
At his wit's end, not knowing what else to do, a somewhat shameful thought grew in his heart.
He knew very well that despite talk of gender equality, the reality of the workplace was ultimately unfair to women.
Especially with Mia being pregnant.
Deep down, he was hoping that after facing reality, when Mia realized she couldn't support herself and the child, she would give up the idea of divorcing him.
So he could only endure the heartache of watching his beloved Mia get rejected again and again.
……
Mia had no idea what James was thinking. She didn't lose heart.
While job hunting, she also contacted rental agencies.
These past few days, she had identified some areas and contacted an agent, made an appointment, and headed out.
She walked out of the residential complex and took the subway to meet the agent at the agreed location.
"Yes, I'm here now."
Mia saw the agent notice her, hung up the phone, and stood at the intersection of a side road waiting for the agent to ride over from across the street.
She was watching the agent and didn't notice a black Bentley speeding toward her from behind until it stopped beside her.
Just as she was about to step away, James had already gotten out of the car, striding toward her and grabbing her wrist.
Mia looked at James who had suddenly appeared, and her brows immediately furrowed.
Why was he haunting her like this!
She struggled but couldn't break free. Her expression had already turned ugly, her tone cold. "James, let go. Don't touch me with your dirty hands."
She was disgusted.
Just thinking about how these hands had touched Amelia all over, even had intimate contact with her, made her sick.
"Mia, come home with me first." James didn't let go.
He swallowed the bitterness in his throat, his tone gentle and coaxing, but his actions were forceful.
Not enough to hurt her, but enough to prevent her from breaking free.
"No!"
Mia practically squeezed out those words through clenched teeth, barely suppressed anger in her eyes.
But James didn't listen to her refusal.
He firmly tried to pull her toward the car, wanting her to go home and stop running around.
What house was she looking for?
Mia couldn't break free and was being pulled toward the car by James. Her expression grew worse and worse.
Every time she didn't want her emotions to fluctuate, James just wouldn't leave her alone.
"I said let go!"
She felt very uncomfortable and just wanted to break free, using too much force.
She lost her balance and fell toward the car door.
"Mia!"
James's face turned pale with fright. He quickly wrapped his arm around her waist, pulled her back, and used the back of his hand to protect her belly, preventing her from hitting the car door.
Mia also broke out in a cold sweat. Her hand that had been gripping the car door suddenly let go.
Shocked, she stepped back and pressed against James's chest, breaking out in a cold sweat as she raised her hand to touch her belly.
James looked at Mia in his arms, her face pale from fright. He didn't blame her for being reckless, but tenderly raised his hand to caress her face. "It's okay now. I'm here, don't be afraid."
But before his hand could touch Mia, she avoided it.
Looking up, her frightened face was completely pale.
She looked at James with fierce eyes.
If he hadn't pestered her and pulled at her, she wouldn't have lost control of her emotions and nearly hurt the baby in her belly.
"James, stay as far away from me as possible. I don't want to see you."
"Mia!"
This time James didn't dare grab her again.
His forcefulness was useless in front of her now.
Even if his intentions were good, he had no right to be tough with her.
Ever since making that unforgivable mistake, he truly had no way to deal with her.
James looked at the stubborn Mia in front of him. He had to compromise again, practically squeezing out through gritted teeth, "I'll move out."
