Chapter 252

Chapter 252

Watching the two of them wrapped in each other's arms, Willie's rage boiled over. He slammed his foot on the gas and peeled out, the car disappearing into the night.

Samuel watched the taillights fade, then pulled Alice close, "So why'd you come home in his car tonight? What were you two talking about?"

Alice caught the jealous edge in his voice and couldn't help teasing him, "What, are you actually jealous?"

"My wife rolls up late at night in another man's car—damn right I'm jealous. Especially when that man's clearly got a thing for her."

As a guy himself, Samuel could read Willie like a book.

What man wouldn't be pissed about some other dude making moves on his wife?

Sure, he liked to think he was pretty secure, but when it came to Alice? He was territorial as hell. His wife wasn't on the market.

Seeing Samuel own up to it so easily, Alice grinned at him, "Mr. Confident gets jealous? I figured you'd be way too sure of yourself for that."

"Hey, I am confident. How does Willie even stack up against me? Is he as good-looking? As loaded? With a catch like me for a husband, there's no way you'd go for another guy, right?"

Alice raised an eyebrow, deliberately needling him, "I don't know about that. Love isn't some competition about who's got the better resume. When you meet the right person, you could fall hard even if they're broke and ugly."

"That's TV drama bullshit. You'd have to be completely delusional to fall for some broke, ugly dude."

"But Willie's pretty easy on the eyes, isn't he? Refined, educated. He's a lawyer too, and from what I hear, he's damn good at it."

Samuel's cocky expression crumbled the second those words left Alice's mouth.

He frowned, genuinely worried now, "Babe, you're not actually into Willie, are you? Getting bored with me?"

Alice laughed, "Of course not. You're more than enough for me. How could I possibly fall for someone else?"

Sure, Willie had his merits, but in Alice's heart, no one held a candle to Samuel. That face alone was irreplaceable.

Yeah, Willie was decent-looking, but next to Samuel's striking features? Please.

More importantly, she only saw him as a friend. Nothing romantic there whatsoever.

Getting the reassurance he needed, Samuel visibly relaxed.

He pulled Alice against him and kept probing, "So what did he say to you in the car?"

"He told me he has feelings for me."

Samuel's expression barely flickered. After all, Alice had just told Willie point-blank that he was her husband.

"Can't blame the guy—you're irresistible."

"Wait, you're not jealous anymore?" Seeing Samuel calm enough to throw out compliments, Alice smiled at him.

"Having guys chase after you just proves how hot you are, and shows I've got excellent taste in wives."

"You're getting way too smooth with the sweet talk."

The two bantered all the way home, while Willie, having discovered that Samuel was Alice's husband, seethed with fury.

After getting home, his assistant called. Willie irritably yanked his tie loose before answering, "Yeah, what?"

"Attorney Reed, Mr. Dupont's assistant called today asking about your trial prep. He wanted me to remind you there isn't much time left before the hearing."

Hearing it was about Colt's divorce case, Willie tamped down his irritation, "Call him back tomorrow. Tell him everything's just about ready."

"Got it, I'll call his assistant tomorrow. Oh, and Mr. Dupont's assistant also wanted me to remind you that his wife hired Samuel as her lawyer. The guy's never lost a case in his entire career, so you need to watch yourself."

"Wait—who did you say? Samuel?"

Willie shot to his feet. Learning that Sophia had hired Samuel as her attorney, the anger he'd just barely contained came roaring back.

"Yeah, the guy's a legal genius—sharp as hell and crazy persuasive. Doesn't matter how tough the case is, he's got a perfect record. That's why Mr. Dupont made sure his assistant gave you the heads up."

Willie forced down the fury burning in his chest and replied coldly, "Got it. I'll be ready."

After hanging up, Willie's agitation only intensified. He'd just found out Alice's husband was Samuel, and now he was discovering that his opposing counsel would be Samuel too.

Willie was seriously starting to think Samuel was fucking with him on purpose.

For this case, even if it was just about his pride, he had to win.

Alice headed for the shower after they got home, while Samuel sprawled on the couch gaming, waiting for her.

His phone buzzed. Seeing it was Sophia, he got up and stepped onto the balcony before answering.

"Attorney Harris, the trial's coming up soon. How's your prep going?"

Samuel's lips curved into a smile, "Don't worry. 'Loss' isn't in my vocabulary."

Hearing his confidence, the voice on the other end relaxed.

"I've already wired the attorney's fees to your account. I'm putting all my faith in you. I hope you won't let me down, Attorney Harris."

"You won't be disappointed."

"Babe, can you grab me a towel?"

Alice's voice drifted from the bathroom.

Samuel had zero patience to keep talking. He ended the call, snagged a towel from the balcony, and headed for the bathroom.

Stepping inside, he was hit with a wall of steam that made everything feel intimate and hazy.

Samuel watched as Alice reached for the towel, ready to dry herself off. He moved closer with a wicked grin, "Hey, want me to help you dry off?"

The second those words left his mouth, Alice knew exactly where his mind was.

"No thanks, I've got it. You can wait outside."

Alice shut him down without hesitation. She'd just gotten clean and had no interest in needing another shower.

Samuel helping her dry off was just a cover—his real goal was getting his hands on her.

"Babe, I'd be so lonely out there by myself. Let me help you."

Alice's refusal didn't faze him. Samuel still came over, took the towel from her hands, and started drying her body.

But as he worked, things quickly went sideways. His large hand slowly traveled up from her waist until it cupped her full breast.

He kneaded it gently, the soft, supple sensation making him reluctant to let go.

Knowing damn well Samuel wouldn't behave, Alice swatted his hand away and shot him an annoyed look, "Quit groping me. Behave yourself."

"Babe, you just got out of the shower—you're all soft and you smell amazing. How am I supposed to resist? How about we fool around first?"

As he spoke, Samuel's hands started roaming restlessly over Alice's body again.

"No, I literally just showered."

"But we're already in the bathroom, aren't we? If you get messy, I'll clean you up myself. I won't make you lift a finger. What do you say?"
