CHAPTER 222. Make It Better
CHAPTER 222. Make It Better
CHAPTER 222. Make It Better
What the hell is she doing here? Gloria thought to herself, glancing at Avery, who was stepping down with a kind of innocent look on her face when she saw the way Gloria was looking at her.
She smiled nervously and waved her hand. "Hello," she said softly.
Gloria turned her head to look at Tristan with fury in her eyes. Tristan saw it immediately, and his eyes went wide.
"Oh, um, seriously, it's not what you think."
But Gloria didn't bother to listen to what he wanted to say.
"Goodness, I'm done with this." She walked over, grabbed her luggage, and began to head back into the elevator.
"Gloria, wait, you've got it wrong," Tristan said with confusion, trying to get to her.
Then he looked at Avery, who lifted her hands in surrender.
"It's not my fault. You didn't tell me she was coming," Avery said immediately with a worried and guilty expression on her face.
Tristan slapped his palm against his forehead. "Oh my God." He muttered and then ran after Gloria, but it was already too late.
She had gotten into the elevator, and the elevator had already gone down. He had to wait for the elevator to come back up. And then it did.
By the time he got to the down floor, Gloria was already about to get into a cab. The cab had already stopped, and the driver was about to help her put her luggage into the boot.
But before Gloria could step into the car, Tristan ran after her and grabbed her arm.
"Gloria, wait, calm down. You have to listen to me. You are not getting all this right." He said, but she wasn't listening.
"I can't, okay, just leave me alone, Tristan. Just when I thought everything was getting better, you are still harboring her in your house. Tell me, what other nonsense things were you doing with her all this time? Whoa, wait, was she the one you have been fucking all this time, all these months? Was she the one?"
Tristan was shaking his head vigorously with his eyes wide open. "No, no, no, you are getting everything wrong. Gloria, listen. You have to listen to me," he said, but she wasn't still listening.
"I don’t want to hear it."
Before she could head back to the car, Tristan dragged her out and looked at the driver who was looking at them with a frustrated expression.
"I'm sorry," Tristan immediately apologized. "This was a mistake. She actually wasn't supposed to be going anywhere, so please kindly help me get her luggage."
" No, do not bring out my luggage." Gloria retaliated, and Tristan looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes, we are bringing out your luggage, so please can you help me?"
The driver looked confused and folded his arms, giving both of them an annoyed expression.
Tristan pulled Gloria back. "Gloria, you have to listen to me."
He walked over to the boot. The driver assisted him, and he took out her luggage. The moment the car was closed, the driver pointed his finger at him.
"Don't ever play this stunt with me again, "he said with a harsh voice, and Tristan winced, looking at him with a nervous expression.
"Sorry sir." But he shook his head and turned around to face Gloria. "You honestly shouldn't go about calling taxi cabs without any purpose," he said, and Gloria was giving him an angry look.
Then he closed his eyes, dropped her luggage beside him, and took a deep breath. "You have to calm down and listen to me first."
Gloria shook her head. "There is no explanation for that, Tristan. She is the stepdaughter that you usually fuck to give yourself pleasure even before you met me. What the hell do you expect me to think looking at her in your apartment still?"
Tristan closed his eyes and exhaled. "You have to calm down Gloria, okay? I understand you. I get you. But come on, she's adopted. She doesn't have any family and she's literally an orphan. What? Did you expect that I was just going to kick her out of the car without any means to fend for herself? Who else was going to help her? Who was going to fend for her?"
"Well, you should have thought about that before turning her into something that you could use as your fuck toy. You weren't smart then."
Tristan closed his eyes and exhaled. "Yes, I agree that I haven't been the smartest and I've literally been stupid when it comes to these decisions. But come on, what the hell were you expecting me to do?" He said.
Gloria was looking at him with mortification. "So you have been fucking her in your apartment."
Tristan closed his eyes. "No, I haven't. I definitely wasn't doing anything with her. She wasn't the one I got stuck up with, okay? It's just some, you know, sluts at the club. You know, I've forgotten what to call them. But she is not the one. I just couldn't, I didn't have the mind to continue with it. So I did the most appropriate thing a father would do." Tristan said and Gloria was giving him a disbelieving look with one eyebrow raised.
"And what is this so-called responsible fatherly thing?" She asked.
Tristan smiled. "I took her to therapy."
Gloria stopped and looked at him with a frown. "For real?" She asked and he smiled.
"Yes. What else do you think I was supposed to do?"
Gloria looked doubtful. She examined him with a frown. Tristan closed his eyes and smiled.
"You have to believe me, Gloria. I swear that's what I did. Okay, after you left, I just felt so bad and, you know, she actually tried to seduce me," he said, and Gloria's eyes went wide again but he quickly placed his hand against her shoulder. "But you need to calm down. I didn't succumb, and I didn't give in to it, okay? All I could think about was you, and I just couldn't go along with it, and I felt like I had poison in my mind, so I needed to take care of my problem and fix it, so... She has been going through therapy throughout the six months. She's not done yet. I think her next therapy session is tomorrow, he said."
Gloria was looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "If you don't believe me," he said, "why don't you come along with me back to the penthouse and see for yourself?"
Gloria was reluctant. She folded her arms and turned the other way.
Tristan tilted his head to the side with worry and placed his hand on her shoulders. "Please, Gloria, you have to believe me, I'm serious."
She shook her head. "You know this is really gonna be hard," she said, and he smiled.
"Yes, I know, but believe me, I'm telling the truth. You just have to see it for yourself."
Gloria was hesitant. She looked at him for a few minutes before rolling her eyes.
"Yeah, whatever, fine," she said, and he smiled. Then he quickly began to lead her towards the penthouse. By the time the elevator pinged when they got to the top, they stepped out and they saw Avery sitting down on one of the sofas in the living room, watching an adult program with popcorn in her hands.
When she saw both of them stepping into the room, she instantly got up and dropped the popcorn with a few of them spilling onto the floor.
She suddenly looked like an awkward, cute, innocent teenager, and it felt off as Gloria looked at her with a frown.
"Hi," Avery said immediately, and waved her hands awkwardly, and then she looked around. "Um, I'm sorry I just...I was.. I wanted to." She looked like she was trying to say something as Gloria observed her.
Then Avery instantly closed her eyes and exhaled, taking a deep breath. "Look, I know we came off on the wrong foot," she began and Gloria saw sincere guilt on her face. "I just want to let you know that I am really really sorry for how I have wronged you. Really, I'm actually seriously sorry. You know, going through therapy has made me realize how bad everything was so I'm really hoping that you should look past everything I have done. I really really regret it and um, you know, I was just feeling and thinking about everything I did to harm you guys and I did something to make it better."
Tristan's expression changed and it made Gloria know that he wasn't aware of what Avery was about to say.
"What's that?" Tristan asked and Avery grinned.
"Okay, so you remember the scandal going on right now about the popular politician?"
Tristan nodded his head. "Yes, what about that?"
Avery grinned nervously. "I kind of have a hand in that." She said and Tristan gave her a surprised look.
" Yeah, you know, stuff with you and Gloria was already getting too much and well I felt bad about it so I had to figure out a way to distract the public from both of you. It's the best I could do even though a few people still talk about you guys but I just had to remove you guys from the public eye."
When she said that, Gloria was looking at her with a raised eyebrow, surprise on her face. Then she tilted her head slightly to look at Tristan.
"Well, you're right. She really has changed," she said with a slight nodding of her head that looked so funny it made Tristan throw his head backwards, laughing out loud without actually realizing he was. Then he took a deep breath and both of them looked at Avery.
"I actually really feel bad, so I was just hoping that you could forgive me."
Gloria was looking at her hesitantly with her arms folded. She closed her eyes and exhaled, "I really don't know, Avery, honestly, I really don't know because you've done a lot," she said and Avery gave her a guilt-filled expression.
"Yeah, I know, I know, I have done really, really bad but I'm just hoping you could give me a chance. I can really make it better."
