RESCUING VENUS

STACY

It's on a Wednesday afternoon and earlier today, we received news that Rose was attacked last week and she's still unconscious by now.

She was poisoned and no antidotes seem to be working. It's also hard to detect so they can't extract it properly. Her condition is worsening by the day. The poison is attacking each and every system of her body.

Through the mode of communication, I can see how worried Joseph is. His hair is messy and his eyes have heavy bags under them. He seems desperate when asking us for help.

Of course, we gather our belongings right away and leave to their Pack while Dwayne and Oswald stay behind.

I know how strong both of them are, so in case of an attack, I know that they can handle it well.

Bruno, Sherry, Maurice and I are on the road to the western Pack.

The other problem is still the pair of mates, Sherry and Bruno. Sherry almost begged me to take the same car, although what she didn't know was that we were going to be travelling in one car.

Only the four of us left since it's more discreet that way. It would've been too dangerous if we brought a whole entourage with us. It would've signalled that the Alpha and the Luna of the Pack have left.

I'm tapping my fingers along the side of my chair while I occasionally look at the side mirror to see what's going on at the back.

Sherry is seated right behind me, keeping her head outside the window while her mate Bruno sits behind the driver's seat and has his head laid back and eyes closed. Currently, Maurice is driving, but he will shift with Bruno later.

The drive is going to take almost half a day. Come to think of it, my old Pack is closer to the western Pack than Dark Woods. I remember when Dwayne drove me to Dark Woods, it was long and quite nerve wracking.

I'm worried that if the two would be left alone, sherry would not hesitate to fight Bruno.

Still, the two of them make quite a pair. Their babies would break hearts here and there.

I chuckle at the thought and remember the life that's growing inside of me. Instinctively, I hold my stomach where my child is.

'Stay safe, my love.' I whisper a small prayer.

'Are you hungry?' Maurice asks through mind link which surprises me, making me jump slightly. I turn to him right away.

Oh gosh! He probably thinks I'm hungry since I'm caressing my belly. I immediately take my hand off my stomach and smile at him. 'No, I'm fine.' I reply, but he looks at me. 'Eyes on the road, mister.' I remind him, something which makes him smile.

I then take a deep breath. It's okay, we'll get there. He won't notice.

*****

I wake up to the sound of the car door closing and Maurice stirring beside me. The sun is setting, painting the sky with a beautiful orange hue. Bruno looks back to Maurice and me who have already fallen asleep at the backseat.

“Welcome to the western Pack.” Bruno says, making Maurice and I to get up and stretch a bit while looking outside. Sherry gives a hug to a man whom I quickly recognize as Alpha Joseph.

“Your mate's quite close with the Alpha.” Maurice makes fun at Bruno and I immediately cast him a reprimanding look. Doesn't he know how sensitive their situation is? But Maurice only suppresses his smile.

“Your mate is telling you to shut up.” Bruno replies with a deadpan look, making Maurice to laugh as we all get out of the car.

The men who are already conversing outside turn to us when we get down.

Maurice climbs down first and reaches his hand out, helping me to step down as well. I keep my eyes on Joseph who looks at me too and I send him a gentle smile.

With the two other Alphas, we walk towards Western's leaders.

“Thank you so much for coming such a long way, we really do owe you.” Joseph says and even bows his head quickly. It surprises us, but we quickly shake our heads.

“No, the pleasure is ours. We were going to be coming here anyways.” Maurice says.

Joseph turns to Bruno and smiles towards him. “It has been a long time, Bruno.” He greets and I guess they know each other too.

“No need for formalities even towards this guy.” Bruno says and hits Maurice's back. “We're all here for a common goal. How about we attend to your mate first?” Bruno states.

Joseph laughs lightly. “Always so straight to the point, aren't we? No wonder Sherry--” Before he can say more, Sherry covers his mouth from beside him and casts a warning look as if telling him not to make a mistake of uttering silly words.

My hand flies to my mouth, but then I laugh.

“Your mate, Joseph, emergency,

remember?” Sherry reminds her friend and takes her hand off his mouth.

I take a small peek to see Bruno's reaction, but he doesn't have any. He just keeps a straight face and this really reminds me of when I first met Maurice.

“Alright, alright. This way.”

When I arrive at the room where Rose is lying down, I can feel how bad she's suffering such that it almost chokes me too.

I look behind me helplessly, where everyone is. “Can you all wait here please? This will be a bit difficult.” I request.

“Is it safe?” Maurice is the first one to ask.

I sigh and nod. “It is, but I think Rose will react better if the room is not crowded. The poison... it seems to have been made specifically to weaken her.” Somehow, I know.

Standing over her, I can smell how foul the poison is and how potent it is, enough to bring her strongest vital parts apart. Not only that, it isn't one kind of toxin, they're various and have different targets in her internal organs.

Joseph's face becomes pale as he lets out a deep breath.

“Can I stay?” He asks finally.

I look towards Rose and wonder how their relationship is, but ultimately, I nod.

“Sure, but you have to stand far away.” I instruct. One by one, everyone else leaves. Sherry discreetly looks from my stomach to my eyes, asking if I'm going to be alright.

I smile at her and nod. I am still going to be careful, no doubt about that.

Maurice kisses my forehead and whispers. “I'll be right outside if you need me.” He says, making me smile again. I know he will be, so there's no need to worry.

Joseph stands by the door as he closes it.

“Will she be fine?” He asks, worry rolling off his voice as he casts a look at his unconscious mate.

I don't reply but instead, I approach Rose and take a seat by the chair beside her and I feel her pulse. It's low, really low. Good thing we came here right away. I'm about to start healing her, but then I turn to Joseph.

“I've been dreaming about her for a while now and of the things she has been through.” I start. Joseph listens intently, trying to make sense out of my words.

“All the warriors are bound to live a hard life, and Rose is no different. She has been through a lot, so please take care of her.” I say and smile.

Joseph is taken aback by my words, but he quickly recovers by sending me a nod.

“Good, thank you Alpha.” I say then turn to Rose. I close my eyes for a while, then I let my Warrior mode to take over.

I just hope when all this is over, my baby will still be safe and everything else will be back to normal!
