Chapter 92
Dominic watched Ava from across the room, his heart heavy with worry. She sat by the window, her gaze fixed on the world outside, but he could tell her mind was far away. Since their last visit to the high-security medical facility, things had only grown more tense. Despite the reassurances from Dr. Martinez, Ava had become more withdrawn and anxious. Dominic felt helpless, unable to reach the woman he loved so deeply.
He walked over to her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Ava," he said softly. "Are you okay?"
Ava turned to look at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and sadness. "I don't know, Dominic," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I just can't shake this feeling that something's going to go wrong."
Dominic knelt beside her, taking her hands in his. "I know you're scared," he said, his voice filled with tenderness. "But we have the best doctors, and we're doing everything we can to keep you and the babies safe. You have to trust that everything will be okay."
Ava nodded, but the doubt in her eyes remained. "It's just... every time I close my eyes, I see Alex. I feel the pain, the fear. And now, with the babies, it's even worse. What if something happens to them because of me?"
Dominic's heart ached at her words. He wished he could take away her pain, make her believe that everything would be alright. "Ava, you're one of the strongest people I know. You've been through so much, and you're still standing. The babies are strong too, just like you. We have to take this one day at a time."
Ava sighed, leaning her head against the window. "I want to believe that, Dominic. I really do. But it's so hard. Every day feels like a battle, and I don't know how much longer I can keep fighting."
Dominic stood up, wrapping his arms around her from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder, trying to offer her some comfort. "You don't have to fight alone," he whispered. "I'm here with you, every step of the way. We'll get through this together."
Despite his words, Dominic could feel the distance growing between them. Ava's anxiety and fear created a barrier that he couldn't seem to break through. He spent hours researching ways to help her cope, talking to her doctor, and doing everything he could to make her feel safe. But nothing seemed to work.
Ava's nightmares continued, leaving her exhausted and on edge. She began to avoid Dominic, retreating to the guest room to sleep, saying she didn't want to disturb him with her restless nights. Dominic respected her need for space, but it broke his heart to see her pull away from him.
One evening, as Dominic sat alone in the living room, he heard a soft knock on the door. He looked up to see Ava standing there, her eyes red-rimmed and filled with tears. "Can I come in?" she asked hesitantly.
"Of course," Dominic replied, standing up and walking over to her. He took her hand, leading her to the couch. "What's on your mind?"
Ava sat down, her hands twisting nervously in her lap. "I don't know how to do this," she said, her voice trembling. "I don't know how to be strong anymore. I'm so scared all the time, and I don't want to drag you down with me."
Dominic sat beside her, his heart breaking at her words. "Ava, you're not dragging me down. We're in this together. I love you, and I'll do whatever it takes to help you through this."
Ava looked at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of hope and despair. "I just don't know if I can do it. Every day feels like I'm drowning, and I can't seem to find my way to the surface."
Dominic took her hands in his, holding them tightly. "Then let me be your lifeline. Lean on me when you need to. We don't have to do this alone. We have each other, and that's all that matters."
Ava nodded, tears streaming down her face. "Thank you, Dominic. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Dominic pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "You don't have to find out," he whispered. "I'm not going anywhere."
Despite his reassurances, the strain on their relationship continued to grow. Ava's anxiety and fear made it difficult for her to connect with Dominic, and he struggled with his own feelings of helplessness and frustration. He tried to be patient, to give her the space she needed, but it was hard not to feel rejected.
One night, as they sat together in the living room, Dominic tried to bridge the gap between them. "Ava," he began softly, "I know things have been really tough lately. I just want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. You can talk to me about anything."
Ava looked at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty. "I know, Dominic. It's just... sometimes I feel like I'm a burden to you. I don't want to keep putting you through this."
Dominic shook his head, his heart aching for her. "You're not a burden, Ava. You're my wife, and I love you. We promised to support each other through everything, and I meant that. I want to help you, but I need you to let me in."
Ava's eyes filled with tears, and she nodded. "I'm sorry, Dominic. I don't mean to shut you out. It's just so hard to talk about everything that's happened. I don't want to keep reliving it."
"I understand," Dominic said gently. "But maybe talking about it will help. We can take it slow, one step at a time. I just want you to know that you're not alone in this."
Ava leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Thank you," she whispered. "I'll try. I promise."
As the weeks went by, Ava made an effort to open up more to Dominic, but the strain on their relationship was still palpable. Her anxiety about the pregnancy and the fear of losing the babies overshadowed everything. Dominic continued to support her, but he couldn't shake the feeling that they were drifting further apart.
One afternoon, as they sat in the nursery, Ava broke down in tears. "I don't know how to do this," she sobbed. "What if something happens to the babies? What if I can't protect them?"
Dominic pulled her into his arms, his heart breaking at her pain. "Ava, you're doing everything you can. We're following the doctor's advice, and we're taking every precaution. The babies are strong, just like you. You have to believe that."
Ava clung to him, her body shaking with sobs. "I'm so scared, Dominic. I don't want to lose them."
"We're not going to lose them," Dominic said firmly. "We're going to get through this, together. You have to trust that everything will be okay."
Ava nodded, but the fear in her eyes remained. Dominic held her tightly, wishing he could take away her pain. He knew that their journey was far from over, and that they would face more challenges in the coming months. But he also knew that their love was strong, and that they would find a way to navigate this difficult time together.
As the days turned into weeks, the strain on their relationship continued to weigh heavily on both of them. Ava's anxiety about the pregnancy and her lingering trauma made it difficult for her to connect with Dominic, and he struggled with his own feelings of helplessness and frustration.
One evening, as they sat in the living room, Dominic tried once again to reach out to her. "Ava," he said softly, "I know things have been really hard lately. I just want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. You can talk to me about anything."
Ava looked at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty. "I know, Dominic. It's just... sometimes I feel like I'm a burden to you. I don't want to keep putting you through this."

"I understand," Dominic said gently. "But maybe talking about it will help. We can take it slow, one step at a time. I just want you to know that you're not alone in this."
Ava leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Thank you," she whispered. "I'll try. I promise."
Despite their efforts, the strain on their relationship continued to grow. Ava's anxiety about the pregnancy and her fear of losing the babies overshadowed everything. Dominic continued to support her, but he couldn't shake the feeling that they were drifting further apart.
One night, as they lay in bed, Dominic turned to Ava, his voice filled with concern. "Ava, I know this is really hard for you. But I need you to know that I'm here for you, and I love you. We're going to get through this together."
Ava looked at him, her eyes filled with tears. "I know, Dominic. It's just so hard. I don't want to keep putting you through this."
Dominic took her hand, squeezing it gently. "You're not putting me through anything. We're in this together, remember? We promised to support each other through everything, and I meant that."
Ava nodded, but the doubt in her eyes remained. "I just don't know how to keep going. Every day feels like a battle, and I don't know how much longer I can keep fighting."
Dominic pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "You don't have to do this alone, Ava. We're going to get through this, one step at a time. You have to believe that.
