Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Nyra's POV
The ride to the workplace had been quite silent. Fiona didn't seem to be in the mood for any conversations after her ordeal with Brad in front of us. I couldn't pretend to feel her pain, but then I knew a little bit about things being beyond my control.
I really wanted to know the details of everything that had happened, but it would simply be rude of me to ask for details outrightly. I wasn't even meant to be bothering myself with any of that.
After a long time of silence, I finally decided to break the ice by letting her know that I didn't find her awkward after having had that episode in front of us. “Are you all right, Miss Fiona…? You seem a bit cold…”
I didn't get a response immediately, and it made me wonder if I had done the wrong thing by not just ending with asking if she was alright. It was unnecessary to state the fact that she was cold as that was an obvious mood for anyone who had just been through what she had gone through.
She turned to me with a smile which I felt was fake. “I'm alright, Tina…”
Yet again, I was feeling so guilty that I was being called by my fake name again. The rational part of me still believed she deserved to know about everything considering the fact that she was letting me stay with her.
I died a thousand deaths each time she was reciting my lies to me. Hopefully, I wouldn't cross paths with the bus driver whom I had introduced myself to as Gina. If that happens, then I will be in a whole lot of trouble.
“Sorry you had to witness that. My nemesis chose to pop up on the day I least expected him. But it's all cool, and it's nothing for you to be worried about, okay?” Fiona spoke with so much reassurance that it nearly made me forget about all that happened earlier.
It felt like I had no other option but to just agree with her. I decided to shake it off at once and stay focused on my first day in her fashion company.
“Lily did make quite a good choice from the dresser.” Fiona remarked as she took another look at my dress. “Fits you perfectly…”
“Uhm… actually I was the one who made the pick.” I said with a little bit of nervousness, as I wondered if she was going to see that as me being so anxious to take all the credit. But then I just had to let her know my passion for fashion in some way.
“Wow, that's really nice. Looks like you've got an eye for colors and how they should be combined. That is a very priceless talent in the industry which a lot of people still have some problems with.” Fiona didn't hesitate to be lavish with her compliments when the time for them came and that was really admirable.
I never thought she would make a big deal out of me combining a black shirt with a pair of pale lilac Palazzo pants, putting a marching scarf around my neck.
“Thank you. I really do hope to learn a lot more from you and my time with you.” I really hope I wasn't demanding too much asking to learn from her, as I believed there were probably others asking for the same opportunity.
“You sound like you were ready to do anything to learn this,” Fiona said. “I add my passion whenever I see it. I guess that's why I ended up naming my company after it.”
“Oh…really?”
“Yep. I named it passion for fashion…quite rhymy isn't it?” Fiona seemed excited about their business like a six-year-old and that was as welcoming as it could be.
I never thought professionals would maintain that sort of enthusiasm. That made it look like the moon goddess really orchestrated all of that from the start. Perhaps it hadn't been about Rowan after all.
It could have all been a means to get me to meet Fiona. That way I could make my fashion dreams come true. I wasn't sure that would be possible in the werewolf province, where all I was required to do was bear children for an Alpha.
Though it was a painful path, I was just glad I had taken it all the same.
“We are here…” Fiona said as the car came to a stop in front of a three-story building which was quite staggering for what I had expected of a fashion company. It was a lot like a glass house with mannequins at each window modeling and designs too good for words.
I didn't hesitate to get out of the car to get an even better look at the magnificent scene before me.
“Miss Fisher…” a vibrant female voice interrupted my peaceful view of the scenery. Someone had already come along to collect Fiona's bag, making it clear just how influential she was. There are a couple of security guards as well, and it made her seem so much inapproachable.
“Oh! Thank you, Ella…” Fiona said, handing her back over to the blood lady who had come along to escort her in. “How are you doing?”
The kindness you should show to her subordinates was admirable as well. She really wasn't the authoritative kind at all.
“Come on, Tina, let's go in…” she called me back politely to the moment, and she never gave me any weird remarks about my unusual behavior of zoning out.
I followed the trail behind the security guards, hoping they weren't going to get uncomfortable with a strange face around. As we walked, I tried my best to stay observant as I noticed Ella whispering some things to Fiona. I couldn't help but suspect that I was the subject of their conversation.
We were soon at the door and about to go in, and I stood there for quite some time just observing how good the place looked while Fiona walked ahead. Soon enough, I resumed the walking wow capturing every single detail that I could.
And that was when it happened. Some strange hot liquid spilled on my body, only this time, it wasn’t just a spill. It seared through my clothes like fire.
