Chapter 25
On the weekend, I went to the car repair shop with him.
He was chatting with a group of friends, but when he saw me approaching, he immediately crushed the cigarette in his mouth, threw it aside, and greeted everyone.
So, he actually didn't quit smoking, he just didn't smoke in front of me. I sighed and walked over to say hello.
"Rachel, having fun at school?"
"Is that handsome guy from yesterday your boyfriend?"
"Oh, you look pretty good."
"No." I replied, glancing at Jason. His stern face finally softened with a hint of a smile.
"Ah, so he's not her type. Rachel, what kind of person do you like? We can help introduce you to someone in the future."
"Shut up, what does a student know about dating?" Jason glanced at the person.
"Boss, didn't you date when you were a student? You're so handsome, there must have been many girls chasing after you. How is it possible that you haven't dated?"
"Yeah, you must have had eight or ten girlfriends, right?"
"Why are you talking nonsense? Put on your clothes. There are students here. What do you guys look like?" Jason pointed at the shirtless men.
"Boss, it's so hot here."
"If you take off your clothes, will it not be hot anymore? Don't talk nonsense, put them on."
Everyone, under his autocracy, dared not defy him.
I stood to the side feeling somewhat awkward. In fact, they were always like this, and I had seen it all before. What was up with Jason today?
During lunch, the guys suggested playing Texas Hold'em at the rental house.
"What about studying? We have students at home," Jason said, shocking everyone with his words.
"No, Boss, Rachel still has homework to do."
"I..." I was embarrassed and didn't know how to respond.
"It's not good to influence her like this." Jason firmly denied it.
I was stunned.
When did I have to study?
But I couldn't argue with him, so I could only look at him in disbelief.
After a while, everyone suggested dying their hair since they had nothing else to do.
"But only dye it black. Don't set a bad example for the students. You guys are uncles now; you should lead by example."
Everyone was confused.
What does dying it black mean?
"Boss, now everything revolves around Rachel. We don't matter, right?"
"Yeah, you're being too biased. Since Rachel came back, our already limited importance has diminished even more."
One after another, they complained.
"When did any of you have any importance?" He shut them all up.
Uncle Bear pulled me aside and asked in private, "Rachel, what kind of spell did you cast on Boss this time? He seems like he's been poisoned."
"Oh, nothing." I thought carefully for a moment. "Could it be because I told him last night that I want to get into a good university?"
"That must be it." Uncle Bear gave me a knowing look.
"And you, fatty, I warn you, don't talk to her if there's nothing important." Saying this, he silenced Uncle Bear.
"What did I do wrong, Boss?" Uncle Bear asked innocently.
"It's nothing, but you being around her is bothersome." Jason said seriously.
Uncle Bear looked at me with a helpless expression and quickly slipped away.
"Uncle." I tugged at his clothes and whispered, "You didn't have to be so harsh with them, right?"
"What do you know? Whether you can get into a good university or not, family environment is important." He said earnestly. "I thought long and hard last night. If you want to go to university, we haven't been able to help you."
"Thank you, uncle."
I mentioned last night that I want to go to college, and he thought about it all night, keeping it in his mind. I was really moved.
It feels good to be cared about by someone.
In the afternoon, he rode his bike to take me to school. I stood at the school gate and waved goodbye to him, and he suddenly handed me a box.
"Look at it in your dorm, I'm leaving."
"Okay."
I watched him ride away on his bike, he looked really cool.
When I got back to my dorm, I opened the box and found a new phone inside.
I was pleasantly surprised.
I turned on the phone and there was only one contact in the address book, labeled "Uncle."
I held the phone and called him at night to thank him.
I could hear his smile in his reply: “It was nothing.”
"I deducted the money for the phone from your account."
"Whatever."
We talked about some other things, and finally, he suddenly asked me what kind of house I liked.
"I was thinking of renting a two-bedroom apartment next time you come back."
"You're really good to me, uncle."
"Do you realize that now? Just don't get mad at me and let me live longer."
He still didn't have a serious tone.
"Uncle, what should I do if I start liking you more and more?"
He was silent for a moment and didn't reject me right away.
In the end, he just let out a sigh. "Study hard, let's talk about it after your college entrance exam."
"After the college entrance exam?"
I couldn't help but ask him further.
"Don't ask anymore, asking more would be pushing it."
"Oh."
"Well, you won't be with any other women before my college entrance exam, right?"
I knew I was being too greedy, but I couldn't help it.
I thought he would scold me again, but instead, he gave me a positive answer.
"No, I won't."
