Chapter 347 Lucas's Death
Chapter 347 Lucas's Death
Chloe Morgan's POV
I never expected it would be her!
I thought she was really dead. I had no idea she was still alive. No wonder she looked at me so strangely at first, then stared at me with such vicious hatred later. She hated me and wanted me dead.
I had no clue my actions would cause such devastating consequences. All I could do was bow my head and apologize.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never imagined it would hurt you this badly. My arrogance nearly got you killed, but I didn't know someone saved you. I know I was wrong."
"But I hope you can forgive me. You can live a good life instead of being consumed by hatred."
I knew I'd wronged her terribly. After all, who could just let go when it came to someone's life?
But she didn't seem to accept my apology. Her eyes blazed with fury as she glared at me. "Everything you have now came at the cost of my life. What gives you the right to ask for my forgiveness? Do you even deserve it?"
"And you have no idea what those years were like for me. If I hadn't been saved, would you have been satisfied knowing you'd actually killed me?"
Her words left me speechless, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably.
I cried as I held onto Dominic, saying sorry over and over. I really didn't know she would die.
But Dominic just held me tight. He didn't blame me at all, just looked into my eyes gently and said, "Don't cry. We'll work through this slowly. Don't worry. You did make a mistake, but you're acknowledging it. Maybe that's some kind of compensation for her. Besides, there might still be a way to fix things."
Dominic's comfort made me feel a little better, but she wasn't satisfied.
Her eyes suddenly turned toward the distant sky with a look of someone facing death, like she'd reached the depths of despair.
She had no family left in this world. She told me, "If you hadn't hurt me back then, I wouldn't have ended up like this. I don't have anyone I care about anymore, and I know I'll never get another chance to come after you. So be it. But I won't accept your apology."
"You caused all of this. Even if I die, I'll never forgive you."
I realized she was about to do something terrible and held Dominic tighter. He said not to be afraid, that she wouldn't dare do anything.
But the next second, I watched her take a knife and slash her own throat. She killed herself, bright red blood pooling on the ground.
I was frozen in shock. My white dance outfit was completely stained with blood.
I felt dizzy and lightheaded, like I might collapse.
I broke down crying—loud, ugly sobs. I didn't know if she really died because of me. I thought she was already dead. It was all my fault for being so arrogant. I never imagined I'd actually drive someone to suicide.
The guilt was eating me alive. All I could do was cry to show how much I regretted everything.
Dominic was shaken too, but he kept holding me, trying to comfort me. "This was her choice. You don't need to feel so guilty."
I couldn't hear anything he said. I could only repeat, word-for-word, "I really messed up."
The scene was cleaned up, and Dominic had to rush me away. At home, he stayed by my side, trying to help me get past this trauma.
But I kept remembering that white dress, the red blood, and how she stared at me as she died. I'd wake up from nightmares about her every night.
Even though I couldn't remember the details of my dreams, I knew she was always there—like a lingering ghost. I don't believe in the supernatural, but I felt like such a complete failure.
Dominic could only stay with me and talk, but later, when I seemed a bit better, he was swamped with work.
Because he was worried about me, he had to handle everything from home and didn't dare leave my side for a moment. But with his constant care, my emotions gradually improved over time.
Amelia Smith's POV
The harbor wind cut through me like ice, making my ears ache with the cold.
Lucas was positioned on the other side, saying the buyers for that shipment had blown their cover, and he needed to move in personally to close the net.
I'd wanted to follow, but he told me to stay put and cover his back.
I watched his figure disappear into the distance, unease coiling in my chest.
Sure enough, less than ten minutes later, chaos erupted from his direction—shouting, scuffling.
"Hand over everything you've got, or you and Liam are both dead."
Lucas's voice carried across the water—cold, hard, lethal.
I was about to circle around to check the situation when I heard another round of chaotic footsteps, followed by a series of dull, sickening thuds.
The sound of fists connecting with flesh.
Then Lucas's agonized scream tore through the entire harbor.
In that moment, my heart felt like someone had wrapped it in a vise.
I wanted to rush over, but I knew—if I blew my cover, we'd lose the evidence too.
All I could do was stand there and listen... until the screaming stopped completely.
The harbor wind remained ice-cold, but I knew—Lucas was gone.
I stood frozen, my hands and feet numb.
That's when I heard the sound of wheels behind me.
I turned to see a man in a wheelchair approaching with several others.
"Come with me. I'll get you out of here." Thomas's voice was calm and measured, but carried an authority that brooked no argument.
I looked at him for a long moment, then nodded.
Before leaving, I made sure to collect the evidence from the scene.
This stuff—I had to put it in Dominic's hands myself.
When I returned to the gang and placed the evidence before Dominic, all I said was, "Lucas is dead."
Back at headquarters, I found Lila waiting for Lucas to come home.
Instead, she got the devastating news I brought back.
The light went out of her eyes instantly, like her soul had been hollowed out.
Watching her struggle to breathe through the pain, I could only whisper, "Maybe... he'll remember you from wherever he is now."
She broke down completely, crying until she collapsed.
I held her as my own heart ached.
These past few days, Lucas and I have worked so many jobs together.
I'd gotten used to his judgment calls, his silhouette, his voice.
Now he was frozen forever in that harbor night.
I knew I needed to leave.
So I went to Dominic. "I want to go abroad with Thomas for a while to recover... The job's done anyway, and Lucas's death... It's hitting me hard."
Dominic studied me for a long time before finally nodding.
I could tell he understood.
Lucas's funeral was simple but peaceful.
Dominic personally laid him to rest.
I stood at a distance, watching Lila appear at the gravestone, her trembling hands caressing his photograph.
She cried softly but for a very long time.
I knew she hadn't accepted the reality yet.
Neither had I.
Chloe Morgan's POV
I'd been holed up in my room for way too long, sleeping off whatever this funk was. Even after I woke up, I couldn't bring myself to leave. My heart felt like it was wrapped in lead, and the thought of doing anything—literally anything—made me want to crawl back under the covers.
But Dominic could tell something was off.
Without even asking, he booked us flights. Said we were going on a trip around the world, just the two of us. Maybe he was right. Maybe I needed to get out of my own head, see something bigger than these four walls. Maybe travel could shake loose whatever was stuck inside my chest.
So we left. Country after country, postcard-perfect views everywhere we turned. I found myself running through endless grasslands, floating in crystal-clear ocean waters that seemed to stretch forever. For those moments, it felt like I could forget everything that had been weighing me down.
