Chapter 334 Want to See Chloe

Chapter 334 Want to See Chloe

Dominic Voss's POV

It had been several days since Chloe and I argued at the hotel. Not a single message returned, not one call answered. Nothing but silence.

Though my security detail reported she was safe—apparently consumed by some dance competition—a hollow unease gnawed at me.

This time, Chloe hadn't even bothered to tell me what occupied her days. I was forced to learn about my own partner's activities through others.

Was this how Chloe felt when I kept her in the dark about releasing Mary, using her as bait to catch Grace? This sinking knowledge that doesn't ease the worry or lessen the sting of exclusion?

I needed to see Chloe. Now. Immediately.

The urgency clawed at me as I prepared to go to her, but my assistant interrupted—Thomas had arrived.

Thomas, my old friend, had barely survived an assassination attempt. Amelia had saved him, but the cost was severe: his legs were so damaged he required a wheelchair.

What could he possibly want at a time like this?

I instructed my assistant to bring him in. Before I could speak, Thomas blurted out, "I heard Amelia's in danger. Where is she?"

"You want to see Amelia? Since when are you two so close?"

Thomas smiled mysteriously. "There's much you don't know. Amelia and I have become... quite intimate."

His smile gave him away. I knew this couldn't be true. Amelia had been obsessed with separating me from Chloe, convinced it would make me love her instead.

Later, she'd tried to atone through increasingly dangerous missions. This latest one—infiltrating Liam's operation—had left her severely wounded.

In what universe would she have time for Thomas? To her, he was probably just another aristocrat she'd happened to save.

"You don't believe me?" Thomas's eyes widened. "I'm in love with her."

His unexpected sincerity caught me off guard.

"How well do you even know her? Why Amelia, of all people?"

"Who can explain matters of the heart?" He shrugged before his expression changed again. "I heard she was injured, but no one will tell me where she is. That's why I came to you."

"Dominic, will you help me pursue Amelia? With your support, she's sure to accept me."

I frowned. "Absolutely not. Why would I? Besides, Amelia needs peace and quiet to recover."

Her injuries were severe. Not life-threatening, but recovery would take considerable time.

"I recently found a potential treatment for leg injuries like yours. The therapy might be lengthy, but you could try it."

Thomas waved dismissively. "Don't bother."

"I've seen every specialist worth seeing. The best doctors say there's no hope. Whether I walk again doesn't matter anymore."

"The fact that I survived is miracle enough. This wheelchair—I've made peace with it."

But his family needed him, and sustaining a dynasty from a wheelchair was nearly impossible. Since there might be a solution, I wanted him to at least try.

"Just consider it. The treatment might actually work."

Thomas remained unmoved, clearly content with his condition.

I sighed. "Is this how you plan to spend your life with Amelia? Condemning her to care for a cripple forever? Doesn't that concern you?"

His pupils contracted, uncertainty crossing his face.

I hadn't expected his feelings for Amelia to be genuine—enough to make him reconsider his stance.

"If you agree to treatment, I'll tell you where Amelia is recovering."

Thomas's eyes brightened. "Then she has to stay with me during my treatment!"

"You're certainly opportunistic," I shook my head. "Amelia's wishes matter most. She's my subordinate, not my slave."

"Fine! You said it yourself—if she agrees, you won't object."

"Naturally. If she consents, I won't stand in the way."

Thomas finally smiled, wheeling closer to clap my shoulder.

"You truly are a good friend! If there's good news, you'll be the first to know!"

I watched his delighted face, unsure what to say.

Though Amelia had accepted that nothing would happen between us, her relationship with Lucas seemed complicated as well.

But their feelings weren't my business. I could only hope they'd all find happiness.

After Thomas left, it was already late. I tried calling and messaging Chloe again, but still no response.

Left with no choice, I called Matilda.

She didn't answer my first call, only picking up on the second attempt.

"Dominic? Why are you calling me?"

"Chloe isn't answering her phone, and I'm worried. Could you tell me what she's been doing at the dance company these past few days?"

Matilda sounded surprised. "She didn't tell you?"

"We're preparing for an important competition. The company's been extremely busy—that's probably why she hasn't had time to contact you."

Matilda's explanation matched what I'd heard from my sources.

"What competition?"

She hesitated before briefly explaining the upcoming event.

When she mentioned that the losing company would either disband or pay a massive penalty, I frowned instinctively.

The dance company represented years of Chloe's dedication. I would never let it dissolve.

Perhaps this was why Chloe had thrown herself into preparation, leaving no time for my messages.

Matilda had only answered on my second call—clearly they were indeed busy.

"Focus on your preparation. I'll handle the costumes and any other resources you need."

"Also, please look after Chloe. I don't want her exhausting herself."

Matilda quickly nodded in agreement.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of Chloe and make sure she rests properly! Your help will make things much easier for us!"

With Matilda's promise, I could finally relax somewhat.

I hoped Chloe's competition would go smoothly, that she would lead her team to victory once again.
