Unexpected allies

Carmina commented with a cloudy look in her eyes . I had never seen her like that , vulnerable and fragile . No haughtiness and low arrogance .

"My father was a member and newly appointed Alpha of a very important tribe in that area . His appointment as alpha of the pack was premature , but wise because at his young age he developed the gifts of all a warrior of the tribe , his speed was unsurpassed , his communication with animals was enviable and his ability to transform as he came of age was improving , helping him to become one of the largest and most powerful wolves in the whole territory and doing a pleasing honor to their ancestors "

"He was an important man from what I see " I commented seeing how thoughtful Carmina was as she unveiled her story under my eyes .

" He was , he taught me everything I know . I learned from my father that when a member of the current generation encounters the scent of a vampire, or some strange creature, they automatically transform into a giant wolf even before they know they are descended from these wolves "

I was amazed to hear this story about wolves, I had never read about them. They seemed to me unimportant stories, but at this moment in my life everything is relevant.

"That night in the territory guarded by the tribe something unusual happened, while my father faithfully guarded the midnight watch, he heard some deafening screams and moans, his sharp wolf ears and his keen sense of protection forced him to leave his post thinking that one of his brothers in the pack needed help."

"At the same instant my father left his post, the circle of security that protected the entrance to the tribe's lair tightened further, closing the cordon that was deployed all around the entrance to the fortress, which they had so zealously protected for more than fifty years."

"As he approached one of the borders of the wolf-dominated territory, my father heard the incessant cries louder, taking his lead-gray wolf form and standing some five meters tall. As he peered between the thin branches of the trees, ochre-colored eyes, and long dark hair completely captivated him, to the point that it quickly brought him back to his human form."

"Your father fell in love with your mother then and then "

I quickly interrupted , because love stories were not my thing .

"Do you have to be so foolish. My father was captivated by my mother , but he was doubtful that she was a vampire . After all, werewolves feel threatened by any creature that is not like them".

He told me letting out a sigh and then rolling his eyes .

"Anyway , my father looked at my mother had some ropes surrounded her arms and legs , and was attached to the trunk of a tree maniatada unable to move , only with his head free to express himself , my father said that gave the appearance that my mother had been a few days without eating or drinking anything . Apparently someone had set a trap to immobilize her so that she would be devoured by some creature of the forest".

I looked at her silently without saying a word , I was somewhat intrigued about her mother .

"My father was afraid of being attacked but clearing all his doubts he slowly approached my mother and stood in front of her , looking at her in a defiant way , waiting for some surprise attack from some forest creature . But after a couple of hours watching my mother and smelling her closely nothing appeared to attack him, and her scent was so penetratingly enveloping and captivating, that he became convinced that she was only a human abandoned in the forest by some depraved hunter.

"He quickly rushed to untie her from the tree, while my mother was still unconscious and tried to dress her wounds , but he noticed that they healed quickly and there it was revealed that my mother was not a human at all "

"Your father lacked a touch of audacity in that sense".

I murmured , as we continued walking at a brisk pace .

"Besides the fact that my mother was a vampire , my father noticed that her wounds were deep . He thought perhaps they had surely been done by some member of the pack , because it was more than clear that they healed soon but they were not wounds that a simple human was done to her "

"My father asked her who had been responsible for leaving her tied up and wounded, but she did not answer. Apparently she didn't want to get anyone in trouble, even though my father played his ass off for her; by quitting his pack and then being hunted down by his own family of wolves."

"Your father was a brave man "

I commented , watching the expression on his face change from grim to sad .

"He was just a poor fool who sacrificed his life for my mother ."

I muttered under my breath . I looked at her and did not want to comment any more , regardless of whether you are human or not the parents of any creature are a rather sensitive subject .

"Before my father had been killed by his own pack , my mother told him that it was the prince of the vampires who had hurt her and tied her to that tree in a merciless way ."

"Araticus had a hand in this ?"

I said with a tone of surprise , and a look full of intrigue .

"That's right , that's why I want to be part of your plans of revenge against him . He was responsible for the death of my parents , after I was born he captured my mother and punished her for getting involved with a werewolf ."

The anger in Carmina's eyes when talking about Araticus was evident , her thirst for revenge overwhelmed me in a way . I didn't want to go to such extremes for the things Araticus had done to me , and I hope my father is safe and sound . Because if not that way , I would not want to undertake a ruthless revenge as Carmina has been thinking about it for who knows how many decades .

"It is very interesting what you say , I understand that the coyote's mother was killed in the same way by Araticús "

"So it was" I reply , looking at me carefully .

"Araticus is in no way pleased with vampires joining an inferior race , or in my mother's case a race that to them is stinking ."

She lowered her gaze as if she felt rejected or ashamed of who she was .

"You should not be ashamed of your roots , remember that your parents gave their all for you and protected you with their own lives "
