Chapter 192 EPILOGUE: A Light for Mother
How do you think I felt after reading my mother’s letter? What reaction would you show if you were in my position? Sad, sympathetic, or something else?
Honestly, ever since hearing the truth from Mrs. Viona at the hospital, I have never been able to stop thinking about my mother. About how she is doing.
After reading this letter, my worries grew even stronger. Sadness, fear, pity, and suffocation mixed into one. My heart screamed. I felt as if I had hurt myself, like a wound washed with salt water. It was extremely painful.
I felt no different from those who had hurt my mother. I was so cruel. When she needed support, I chose not to believe her and left her.
All this time, I have lived in hatred. I always blamed my mother for abandoning me without wanting to know the reason. I never cared about the conditions that had befallen her. All I thought about was how I should have been cared for and loved like a child who needs parental affection.
I was very selfish. I was too absorbed in my own sadness. I always felt that I was the one who was most hurt, suffering, and abandoned. Meanwhile, out there, my mother was struggling against the cruelty of the world and the pain in her heart.
What kind of child am I, who had the heart to accuse her own mother of being an evil person?
I cannot imagine how my mother survived with the wounds she bore alone. Betrayal, neglect, and humiliation. I do not even know how she felt when she was pregnant with me without a husband by her side.
Did she often cry alone? Did her tears frequently fall when she remembered her love? Did she feel empty as if she were in darkness? And could she live well when the only light in her life was taken away by her own best friend?
My mother was right, the world is indeed unfair to her love story and her life. Also to me, and to everyone who feels hurt. However, even so, I still believe that God has His own way of giving justice to all of us. I believe that.
The day began to grow dark as I put my mother’s letter back into my bag. I stepped out to meet Kenn, who was waiting for me with a worried look. He immediately ran toward me.
Yes, he knew I had been crying. As usual, he always knew, even before my tears fell and wet my cheeks.
“Are you okay?”
I shook my head while looking at Kenn. I took a deep breath, then smiled.
“I’m fine.”
He held both of my hands. “Really, you’re not lying?” His eyes still showed concern.
“Really, Kenn,” I said reassuringly. “I already know what I have to do.”
“For what?”
“For my mother, Kenn.”
Kenn looked at me for quite a while, as if trying to peer into my eyes to find certainty.
Without asking further, Kenn nodded. “I trust every decision you will make.” He ruffled the top of my head while smiling. “Shall we go home now?”
My smile widened. I nodded firmly. I took Kenn’s outstretched hand and walked toward his sports motorcycle.
I went home with renewed spirit. I carried hope and a purpose that now felt clear.
This time, I want to do the right thing for my mother.
After everything that happened, I think my mother deserves to be happy.
Forgive me if you are disappointed. Forgive me as well if my ability to tell this life story is limited only up to here. I hope you understand my feelings and condition.
Thank you to those of you who are willing to reflect on my story. Take the lesson from it and do not imitate my bad behavior.
When the time comes, I will return to tell the continuation of my life’s journey.
