Chapter 187 The Final Boundary
Chapter 187 The Final Boundary
“Farah, someone has come to see you,” the female guard said flatly from behind the iron bars.
Farah, who had been shattered since Frel’s visit that brought news about the truth of her identity as Kevan’s younger sister, now stood up with a trembling body.
She nearly fell when she tried to support her own weight. “Who? Is it Kevan?” she asked in a hoarse voice filled with both hope and fear.
She now looked much thinner. The dark circles under her eyes bore witness to the regret that stole her peaceful sleep every night. That regret did not only haunt her while she was awake, but also crept into her nightmares.
“Please, tell me it’s him,” she whimpered as she clutched the sleeve of her loose-fitting uniform.
She dragged her steps forward with an empty gaze. However, when her eyes caught sight of the figure who had long been the center of her life, she froze.
The man was there. Sitting quietly with a flat and cold stare. Kevan did not even blink when he saw Farah in her broken state. To him, the sight before him was nothing more than a pile of trash blocking his view.
“Kevan,” Farah whispered softly, her voice almost swallowed by the stuffy air of the visiting room. “You came? You really came to see me?”
“Don’t misunderstand, Farah. I’m not here for you, but for Frel.” Kevan’s voice sounded sharp and full of hatred toward the girl, without the slightest warmth that Farah once knew.
“I know, Kevan. She’s your sister, right? Did Frel finally convey my apology to you?”
“This has nothing to do with Frel. I came of my own will.” Kevan leaned forward slightly, making Farah startled. “I want to see with my own eyes what a monster looks like when it’s finally locked behind bars.”
Kevan observed Farah’s pitiful appearance carefully. Instead of feeling pity, he curved his lips into a crooked smile full of contempt. Seeing that reaction, Farah felt her dignity crumble instantly. She felt ashamed and confused at the same time. The Kevan before her was not the man she used to know. Not the Kevan who was friendly and gentle to every girl.
“I beg you, forgive me, Kevan. I really didn’t know that Frel was your sister. I’m truly sorry,” Farah said. She tried to reach for Kevan, but her hand only hit the thick glass separating them. “I’ll do anything, Kevan. Anything. Please don’t look at me as if I’m filth.”
“Why? If Frel weren’t my sister, would you be satisfied seeing her suffer because of what you did?” Kevan asked in an extremely cold tone. “Answer me, Farah! Are someone’s life and dignity only valuable to you if they are related to me by blood?”
Farah shook her head vigorously. Her expression looked frustrated and chaotic.
“Kevan, forgive me. This is a fatal mistake that I deeply regret.”
“Your apology will never bring back Frel’s grandparents. So what’s the point of apologizing now?” Kevan replied. His gaze remained flat, but the hatred was clearly reflected in his eyes. “Every second you breathe here, they remain underground because of you. Your apology is an insult to them.”
“Kevan—”
“You have to know one thing, Farah. All this time, I stayed silent, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t know what you were doing behind my back,” Kevan cut in, his jaw clenched tightly as he held back his anger. “You often intimidated every girl who tried to get close to me. You frightened them, and some even dropped out of school because you were too domineering.”
“Do you think I was blind? I was just too disgusted to confront you back then, because I thought you still had a little conscience. Turns out I was completely wrong,” he continued.
Kevan fell silent for a moment, observing the girl in front of him with a judgmental gaze. Farah’s body was stiff, while tears continued to soak her cheeks, yet Kevan showed not the slightest sympathy.
“Did you think that by getting rid of them all, I would pay attention to you and choose you?” Kevan shook his head firmly. “No, Farah. No matter what, I will never choose you. I do not love you. I actually hate you deeply because you crossed the line by hurting the person I wanted to protect. You bullied Frel. You tortured the girl I love so much.” Kevan’s gaze sharpened. “Even if you were the only one left in this world, I would rather die than be with you.”
“I just didn’t want to lose you, Kevan! I was afraid they would take you away from me! Why did you never choose me? Why? Can’t you see how great my love for you is?” Farah asked in a demanding and desperate tone.
“That’s not love. That’s just a crazy obsession to possess me,” Kevan snorted softly. “Only a foolish man would be willing to be your boyfriend, Farah. Your love is disgusting. Every time you say my name, I feel like washing my ears with acid so I don’t have to hear the sound from your filthy mouth.”
“Please don’t talk like that, Kevan. Everything I did is proof that I can’t live without you! I did it because I love you. I couldn’t stand seeing you with another girl. I went crazy because I love you.” Farah’s voice rose, growing more and more uncontrollable. “I’m willing to rot in here as long as you forgive me! Please, don’t hate me!”
“Your love is poison to me, Farah. Even if I have to let go of my own feelings for Frel because of our blood ties, I will still never be able to forgive you for destroying her. You are a parasite that destroys all the happiness around me.”
“No, Kevan. I’m begging you, forgive me. I’m truly sorry.”
“Your apology is too late. I hate you,” Kevan said as he stared sharply straight into Farah’s eyes.
“All the punishment you’re receiving right now is not even comparable to the cruelty you’ve committed all this time. I hope you rot in this prison, because you truly deserve it. Never dream of leaving this place as the same person, because I myself will make sure your world ends behind these bars.”
After saying those words, Kevan turned around and walked away without looking back even once. He left Farah with hatred that would never fade.
Meanwhile, Farah screamed hysterically like someone who had lost her sanity out of fear. She pounded on the glass partition until her fingers turned red.
“Kevan! Come back! I can’t breathe without you! Kevan!” She wailed like a madwoman. “No, Kevan. Please don’t leave me alone here. I love you. Kevan, Kevan!”
Her voice broke into hysterical screams that echoed throughout the prison corridor, but Kevan kept walking without turning back even once.
