Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Willa
I wasn’t expecting to have to leave the comfort of my bed tonight, but apparently, these boys don’t care about my comfort.
“What on earth am I supposed to do?” I ask when Luke, Maxim, Lan, and I climb into a car.
This time the car is being driven by some middle aged man who doesn’t even greet us. Not that I expect him too but still…a little customer service should be expected right? I mean he’s out here offering rides, so he has to expect someone to ask at some point.
Okay maybe I'm focusing on the wrong thing right now, but still.
“Interrogate her Zhena, obviously,” Maxim says with a wicked smile and excited gleam in his eyes.
He’s a little bit crazy.
“Okay but how? I’m trained in hand-to-hand combat and weapons but I never took lessons on interigation! I have no idea what to ask!” I’m starting to panic a little.
“Baby girl breathe,” Luke says as he wraps an arm around me and tucks me closer to him.
The name sends a little shiver through me. No…no no no. Baby girl? Really? I’m one of those girls? Uh, dumb woman parts and Luke’s gravelly sexy voice. I’m being betrayed by my own body.
I decide to lean into the mess and bite back a smile. “Baby girl?”
His lips break into a heart-stopping smile. “You like that one huh?”
I roll my eyes and smack his chest but he just catches my hand and brings it up to his lips. With his eyes locked on mine he turns it over and brushes a soft kiss on the inside of my wrist. My breath catches and swallows at the rush of…lust that the small move has caused. How could such a small thing make me react so strongly to the point I'm considering jumping his bones right here?
“Alright stop flirting with my wife,” Maxim says lifting Luke’s arm off my shoulder and replacing it with his.
“You’re not married yet,” Luke grumbles. “And she was mine first. Don’t forget Russian boy.”
Maxim laughs. “Is that the best you got?”
“You don’t want to know what-“
“Guys.” Since I'm seated between them I rest a hand on both of their knees. “Let’s not fight. You are both special. Luke is my first boyfriend and you’re my first fiancé. Okay?”
I hear a chocked sound coming from the driver and I glance up to see him staring with wide eyes through the rearview mirror.
“Eyes on the road,” Lan says from beside him and the guy’s eyes snap away.
Lan gives the guy a warning look and goes back to scrolling through his phone. I’m not sure what he’s always doing on that thing, but it’s almost always in his hand.
Maxim and Luke settle for silently taunting each other for the rest of the ride to the bunker.
The campus is kind of spooky at night. No one is around, so it looks almost haunted. All the old buildings and low lighting are creating a setting for a horror film. The idea of a possessed priest or something coming after me sends a nervous chill through me. I’ve never been a fan of those kinds of films and now I know why. How am I supposed to walk around creepy paces at night after seeing a film like that? Although a few movie trailers are doing the trick just fine right now.
We walk in silence until we reach the gate leading down to the tunnel. Lan types in the code and we follow him inside. It’s far creepier now, but I ignore that fact and focus on the thought of interrogating some helpless woman.
I mean I only saw the woman once and she doesn’t exactly look like a mastermind of some violent plot. So there is no way she’s going to handle any sort of interrogation well…right?
The door to the bunker opens before we even reach it and Sebastian is reaching out and grabbing my hand before I can even greet him.
“No hello? Just jump right in huh?” I say.
He doesn’t even look at me as he drags me toward the torture room. I stop short in the doorway and blink a few times to be sure I’m seeing things clearly. The woman in front of me is…a mess. Her make-up is running down her face and it’s only getting worse as she starts to cry harder.
“Please! Help me!” She calls out to me.
I tilt my head. “You’re not even tied up. You can leave at any time.”
She looks hopefully at Sebastian but he’s leaning back against the wall with a smooth but deadly look on his face. I roll my eyes and wave a hand at him.
“Ignore Mr. Grumpy. Talk to me, Dalia. What were you doing in his office?” Going in with nice cop seems appropriate here.
Her eyes flit between us again.
“Don’t look at me. Look at her!” Sebastian snaps at her making her flinch.
“Sebastian,” I say in warning.
He sighs and relaxes his body a little. The other guys file in and take similar stances as him. Maxim smirks at her though and for some reason, she shrinks back from him more than she did with Sebastian. Weird.
“Look Dalia, I don’t want to hurt you. I really don’t trust me, so if you can tell us what's going on we can skip past all of that. Between you and me I think torture is a little too severe for these kinds of conversations. You know? Like how much can a person really say when they’re crying in pain?” Her face pales so I stop talking.
When I glance at Luke he’s smiling. “What?”
He shakes his head. “You’re too cute baby girl. Go on.”
Baby girl! He really needs to stop saying that!
I narrow my eyes on him and all he does is laugh. I really need to make good on my threats of kicking his ass.
“Come on Dalia. I climbed out of my super comfy bed to be here. Do you know how long it took to get just the right amount of cozy? And then these idiots were all over my space cramping my cozy time! This one actually laid right on top of me! While I was eating my favorite ice cream! Can you imagine? It was a mess but this guy asked me to marry him-“
“What?” She yelps out. “You’re marrying…him?”
I glance at Maixim and shrug. “I mean he’s hot so…”
“Aw, you think I'm hot? You flatter me Zhena.” He smiles cockily at me and I roll my eyes.
“Men, am I right?”
She scowls at me. Long gone is that simpering girl begging to be let go.
“I was supposed to marry Sebastian.” She says with a tilt of her head.
I raise a brow at the man in question and he shakes his head. “That was never an option Dalia. Never.”
“Your father said it was! He promised you to me if I helped him! We’re supposed to be together!” I cringe at the desamale of her voice.
“Good lord. Please shut her up.” Luke says with a frustrated groan.
“I can’t exactly get information from her if she can’t talk Lucky.”
“Well hurry up because I’m about ready to step in and make this short.”
Another eye roll. I seem to do that a lot around these guys.
I turn back to face Dalia. She’s got a stubborn, high, and mighty look to her now. A look she should not have with the messed up state she’s in.
“What were you looking for in Sebastian’s office?” I ask her.
She sighs. “Anything. Luca wanted to know what he was doing here. If he has a plan to take the family back.”
“And you think I'd be dumb enough to keep that sort of information in my desk?” Sebastian scoffs. “My father made a mistake recruiting you.”
“He thought I could convince you to tell me what you’re up to.” She has the right mind to act sheepish. “But you always pushed me away!”
“And yet you kept coming back like an untreated STD.” Maxim drawls.
She narrows her eyes on him. One second she seemed ferried of him but she seems to have lost all that fear.
“Dalia, where is he? Where is Luca?” I ask.
Her eyes move to me and I know as soon as our eyes meet that she isn’t going to tell me anything. Crap. I guess good cop isn’t working.
“I don’t know.” She shrugs in a way that tells me she does know.
I walk over to the table of torture devices and run my fingers along each one. “I think you do know Dalia. And you will tell us. You know why?”
When I turn my head to look at her she looks a little nervous.
“Because these guys won’t hurt you, but I will. Woman to woman…I’m far more dangerous than them. I know exactly where to hurt you. So make a choice now. The truth or pain.”
She shutters. “Please.”
I shrug. “Pain it is.”
“Wait! I’ll tell you!” She cries before I even lift anything off the table.
Got her! Checkmate bitches! Man that was a close one.
