Chapter 69 Chapter 69

Chapter 69 Chapter 69
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
I'm surprised by how fast Adriana's breathing steadies. She falls asleep right away which obviously makes me think she is just faking it. No one can even blame me for that. I got so close to losing her, albeit I would have found her in a week tops, like I said with Daciana, the time and effort that would go into it was what I was avoiding. I don't think I'll be able to sleep with the knowledge of her not being under the same roof with me.
My thoughts get interrupted by the pack doctor's mindlink. I give him permission to speak as I continue watching my mate. Listening to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat that confirmed she was sleeping and not just faking it.
"The reset was successful, alpha. He is still unconscious but he will make a full recovery.'
'When can he leave?' I ask straight to the point. I just didn't like the man being in my territory and I was hell bent on keeping peace and staying away from anything that might cause a war. That doesn't mean I wouldn't get violent if my buttons were pushed, but just because I could do something didn't mean I wanted to.
'Soon, but I think it would be best if he made a full recovery.' The doctor replied, his tone suggesting that was the better option. I didn't care for the fucking better option, I just wanted that man off my land as soon as possible.
'As soon as he can be transported, let me know and it will be arranged.' He sighed and replied in the affirmative before I cut the link off. with one last longing glance at Adriana, I turn and walk out of the room.
Donovan was rushing up the stairs when he heard me and he stopped dead in his tracks, a look of confusion in his eyes.
"When did you get back?" he asks and I shrug.
"A few minutes ago." Before he could speak again, I added. "Are they still there?" I asked, referring to the warriors and the meeting
that I called.
"Yeah," he changed course and started turning to go back down the stairs. I followed, mindlinking the guards stationed at the house, that had been called out earlier to return to their posts. I still didn't feel fully comfortable leaving both of them unguarded. I was confident if Daciana woke up she could defend them, but I would much rather she rested. And after the hassle Adriana put herself through when she wasn't well enough, she needed the rest too.
"Did you tell your little mate about her father?" I paused for a moment, before continuing walking like he didn't shock me. It hadn't even crossed my mind to tell her, mostly because I had more things to worry about after I found her and all. Not to mention, I didn't think she would really care for how he was after witnessing their exchange.
"No," I finally answered Donovan, who was not doing a very good job at pretending he wasn't waiting for my reply. I looked at him, noting how his lips were pursed. He had a distant look in his eyes, a usual telltale sign that he was thinking of something.
"Why not?" he asked, this time his inquisitive eyes were studying me, trying to check if I had more to say than what I would tell him. He never really learned to not believe my facial expressions. Maybe because I showed him what he wanted to see most of the time.
"It slipped my mind," I said simply. He paused, then scoffed loudly.
"That's not an excuse, you didn't want to tell her and that is just it, don't go around saying another thing. No one's going to beat you." He said that with a teasing note to let me know he was joking. I shrugged, not confirming or denying his allegation. Though he hit close to home, and it didn't just come to my head. I'd stacked it in the part of my brain I packed as unimportant.
"I didn't really care enough to remember. And I don't think she'll care all that much." I replied honestly. The words came out before I could decide if I wanted to tell him or not.
"Shitty father?" Since I couldn't confirm that, I didn't reply. Donovan was quiet for a few seconds before he exhaled a breath. "I can tell." I looked up sharply but his eyes were cold and he started walking away.
He rarely talks about his father, well our father. He was an overall shitty human being, he hated me and though I did my best to keep him from Daciana so he could never hurt her the way he did me, he made sure to get her with his tongue since I'd restricted the hands. And though I wanted to know the real story of how the man was to him, since he didn't know I knew, I kept it to myself. No need to start a fire when there was none.
"How did you know?" I asked and he shrugged, then he smirked. Some of the light back in his somewhat dim eyes. "Just a hunch." His smirk only grew while I watched him confused. I choose to not ask more questions. If he wanted to talk, he would have volunteered the whole story himself. He was a chatterbox. An unapologetic one at that.
"Go meet the warriors, I'll sort this thing out with Jameson and if you're up for a date later?" he was walking toward the door as he spoke. My brows creased when he said the last part and I asked what he meant. He looked over his shoulder, this time the smile on his face was truly sinister. "We'll go eat dinner down in the dungeon. I've heard scentless wolves have a special taste." He bared his teeth, his eyes flashed golden for a moment.
He disappeared out the door while I watched the empty foyer with a confused expression on my face. I shook it off and continued my descent to the training ground. I would waste a hell lot of time if I said I wanted to figure out the crazy shit that went through Donovan's head. He would come tell me when he was done acting mysterious, and I really couldn't be bothered with it right now. Training was still going on when I reached the pack grounds, the gamma was the one leading. He didn't have any obvious wounds on him but I heard he got hurt in the morning, he'd been the closest to the school during the attack and like a warrior wolf, he didn't wait for a team, taking them on himself before backup arrived.
He stopped giving two teenage wolves pointers during sparring when he noticed me and quickly rushed to my side. He bowed in respect first before moving back and crossing his hands behind his back. It was a submissive stance though it didn't really look that way to the onlooker. That has a whole story attached to it.
"Is there anything I can help with, alpha?" he asked, his voice sounding all too eager to serve.
protect those
Dorian, the gamma, came from an original pureblood lycan protector clan. They were lycans but they were simply born of the royal family. Legend says they were part of the moon Goddesses army before she left earth, it was the widely accepted history. I didn't believe nor deny that because I've trained alongside him, I've fought with other protectors from other wolf families and I've felt their strength. There was some truth to that tale.
"Nothing much, I just need your warriors for a moment." I announced. As though they could hear me, I was confident a lot of them were eavesdropping and they didn't even try to hide it.
A few girls, no older than eighteen walked past and they giggled when they were a few feet away. An amused smile tugged at my lips while the buff warrior glared at them and told them to get to their posts. He turned back to me and nodded.
"They are all yours, alpha."
