Chapter 66 Chapter 59
59: My Pack First
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
The gamma's message didn't finish registering in my head when I heard Donovan's voice through the mind link, distracting me more. I cursed, already getting to my feet and rushing outside of the office and to the front door.
'You need to get down here man,' there was no hint playfulness in his voice when he spoke. Which meant it was serious.
'I'm on my way.' I was already by the door when I replied. There weren't many people around the pack house when I left, which was a bit unusual. The activities here were mostly more in the mornings and evenings. The hassle of getting to work and then before going to bed. It being empty meant they were mostly at the school, trying to get as many children to safety as they could.
When I reached the intersection of the pack, where I would have to take a turn to either leave the pack or go deeper, that is towards the school, I stopped. My mind rushed, trying to think of where I was needed most. Donovan's voice in my head distracted my thoughts. "Where the fuck are you man?' he growled out. There was a hint of panic in his tone. That made the decision for me and without further thought, I sprinted toward where they must be. The trees were too dense around that part of the border so it wasn't easy running through them. Their scent was masked by the scent of earth, I had to pay extra attention before I managed to get to them.
I found Donovan kneeling on the floor, a body lying beside him, unmoving. I quickened my pace and stopped right above him. my eyes widened when I saw Jameson lying in a pool of blood, his eyes were open but they had rolled to the back of his head. His skin has started turning a ghastly shade of white.
"What happened?" I asked Donovan, lowering myself to the side of Jameson's head.
"I have no idea." Donovan faced me, the worry in his eyes evident. "I followed him like you asked, I couldn't track him for a few minutes and when I did, I saw him like this." He ran a hand through his hair.
"How the fuck?" I shook my head, I didn't even know where to start from. This was going to be a big problem if it got out. He was still alive though which gave me a little hope, now I just had to keep him that way for a while longer. Then he was going to get the hell out of my pack and never show his face again. That would be the best for everyone involved. "There was no one with him?"
"Yes." I nodded to Donovan who understood the message. He got up and walked to where Jameson's feet were sprawled. One was almost severed from hia body, the bone protruding. It was a gruesome sight.
He was an alpha, which meant the person that did had to be of the same level or higher. Even so, it was still so bad that an alpha was roughed up that bad.
"Do you think we should carry him?" Donovan pointed to his almost severed leg. The skin was hanging on the side. It had to be fixed soon before he healed the wrong way. I gave Donovan a look and he sighed. He looked tired. "Call the pack doctor or something. What if we move him and something goes wrong. "He was making sense but we didn't have the time for that.
And as much as I hated Jameson, anything happening to him in my territory wouldn't be looked at as a simple accident. Especially with the strained relationship wolves and lycans have these days, any misunderstanding will be viewed the wrong way and it would escalate. I wanted to avoid that by all means.
"There is no doctor available right now," I informed him, looking up. his brows drew together in confusion before what I mean clicked in his head. We always had doctors on standby, them not being available meant they were busy. And they were never busy, unless there was an attack.
"What the fuck happened?!" Donovan's voice rose an octave. I gave him a simple run down of what happened and he cursed. "What are we going to do now?" he asked, looking at me like I had the answers to all his questions. He was about to be very disappointed because my brain was blank.
This would act as a wakeup call for me, we've gotten too relaxed and confident. The fact that I had the biggest and strongest army didn't help in surprise attacks like this one. No one had an idea they were in the pack, and even now there might be more of them around us. there was no way for us to trace or track them. That was my biggest problem.
"Get him back to the pack, then figure out what the hell happened." I said simply. He nodded and without further questions leaned over Jameson's body. He has passed out probably from the loss of blood and exhaustion. I know it is the main reason he wasn't healing very fast. The gash in his leg was starting to close though the bone was still lying on the side.
"You take the top, I'll hold this battered thing." Donovan motion to the feet.
"No. we don't know if he has more gashes on his back. I wouldn't want him to split into two in my hands." He laughed hearing that. Nothing about the situation was funny, but Jameson is an annoying piece of shit. I couldn't bring myself to genuinely feel bad for him.
"Don't act like you won't like it." Donovan rounded the corner, he was looking over the almost lifeless man's body. Trying to assess him and see which way would be the best to get him up. All of this would have been so much easier if we had a gurney. Calling and waiting for one to be brought from the hospital would take forever and I wouldn't even want to do that. they needed all the help they could get there, and as much as I wanted Jameson to live, my pack members came first.

"I would like it doesn't mean it's worth the heap load of issues his death would cause. Now help me lift the asshole, I'm tired his pathetic self like this." Without another word, Donovan removed his shirt which made me look up, my eyebrows raised in question.
"We don't want the bone falling off, do we?" he grumbled, tying both of Jameson's legs together. He didn't move or make any sound of discomfort, he was out cold.
I lifted him from his shoulder upward and sure enough, there was an even bigger gash on his back, taking up almost all of his back. My hands were immediately soaked in his blood, my clothes were a different thing entirely.
"Had to have been a big animal." Donovan stepped back while I carried the man alone.
"An unforgiving one at that." whoever or whatever it was got the better of him. They had all the advantage from the looks of it, and there was rage in the way he was battered, they wanted to tear him apart and they were so damn close.
"This isn't good." Donovan muttered. I only hummed in agreement.
"Call for a meeting on the training grounds. I need a report on all that has happened by the time I get back from the infirmary." I commanded. He only nodded and we went our separate ways.
I was almost near the pack hospital when Adriana came to my mind. I couldn't believe I didn't even think of her until now. my heart thudded in my ribcage. Worry filling my head with terrible images of her in a state similar to her father's. That pushed me harder and I ran with the man in my arms, not giving two shits about how uncomfortable it must be for him.
Nurses were already rushing out by the time I reached the front doors of the hospital, through the emergency unit doors. The emergency was filled with injured pack members. Most of them weren't badly hurt, which I was thankful for. A doctor ran towards the door where the nurses took Jameson from me and placed him on a gurney.
He acknowledged me with a nod before he started spurting out orders while he took his stethoscope off to check the man's vitals. He nodded and clapped his hands, telling them what to do. He was about to go with them when I took his arms and commanded in a gruff voice.
"Keep him alive."
"Yes, alpha." He bowed and then ran off to go join the rest.
I headed back outside, thinking of shifting and getting to the pack house sooner, I couldn't bring myself to wait so I just tried to mindlink Daciana. Needing her to tell me Adriana was fine, that they were okay. I would lose my mind if anything happened to either of
them.
I tried reaching for her but it felt like something was blocking me out, I tried to force myself through but it was like fighting with a blank wall.
"Shit." I cursed and shifted right in the middle of the parking lot before taking off.
