Angelo’s POV:
Angelo felt a surge of nervous energy as he approached the common area. He had barely slept the night before, his mind racing with thoughts about the project and the conversation with Celeste. Today, they were set to present their project, and he hoped it would go smoothly.
As he arrived, he spotted Briar and Celeste already chatting. They seemed at ease with each other, but he could sense the underlying tension. He took a deep breath and approached them, forcing a smile.
“Hey, guys! Ready to knock this presentation out of the park?” he said, trying to lighten the mood.
Briar’s eyes lit up. “Absolutely! I think we really nailed the visuals and our research. This is going to be great!”
Celeste smiled, but Angelo noticed a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. “Yeah, I just hope the professor likes it. We put so much effort into this.”
He nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. He needed to reassure her. “You were amazing, Celeste. The way you organized everything made it so much easier for us. Trust me, we’re going to impress her.”
As they gathered their materials and prepared for the presentation, he caught a glimpse of Briar’s nervousness, too. Why was this so hard? He felt like he was walking a tightrope, trying to balance the two important relationships in his life.
“Okay, let’s do this,” he said, trying to sound confident. He led them toward the classroom, his heart pounding in anticipation.
Briar’s POV:
Briar felt a mix of excitement and anxiety as they entered the classroom. Presenting the project was the culmination of weeks of hard work, and she was eager to showcase their efforts. But a small voice in her head reminded her of the delicate balance between her and Celeste.
As they set up their presentation materials, she exchanged glances with Angelo, who looked determined. His presence calmed her nerves, but she couldn’t shake the feeling of uncertainty that lingered. Would Celeste be okay with this dynamic?
“Let’s just focus on the project,” Briar whispered to herself as the professor entered the room. She took a deep breath and prepared to present.
Celeste’s POV:
Celeste watched as Briar and Angelo exchanged a few quick, encouraging smiles before the presentation began. It was subtle, but it made her stomach twist. She reminded herself to stay focused—this was about their project, not her insecurities.
As they began their presentation, Celeste spoke confidently, detailing their research and findings. She could feel the professor’s eyes on her, and it fueled her determination. But every time she glanced at Angelo, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy toward Briar.
Midway through the presentation, Briar seamlessly took over, explaining their visual components with enthusiasm. Celeste admired her passion, but it also ignited a flicker of insecurity. Would Briar overshadow her?
“Great job, you two,” the professor commented as they wrapped up. “You’ve clearly put a lot of effort into this. I’m impressed.”
Celeste felt a rush of relief wash over her. “Thank you, Mrs. Amato. We really enjoyed working on it together,” she said, glancing at Briar and Angelo, who both nodded in agreement.
Angelo’s POV:
As the professor praised their work, Angelo felt a swell of pride. They had done it together, and despite the tensions, they had come out stronger. But as he looked between Celeste and Briar, he sensed that the journey wasn’t over.
“Let’s celebrate after class,” he suggested, trying to lighten the mood further. “Maybe grab lunch together?”
Celeste’s eyes sparkled, and Briar smiled, though he noticed her hesitation. Did she feel like an outsider?
“Sure, that sounds great,” Celeste replied enthusiastically. “I could use a good meal after all this.”
As they walked out of the classroom, Angelo’s heart was lighter. But in the back of his mind, he knew they still had to navigate the complexities of their relationships.
Setting: Later that day, after the presentation, Angelo sits in his dorm room, feeling a mix of relief and lingering unease about the tensions between Briar and Celeste. His laptop sits open in front of him, and he checks his email.
Angelo’s POV:
As he settled into his desk chair, Angelo couldn’t shake the exhilarating yet daunting feeling from their presentation earlier. He had hoped everything would go smoothly, but he still sensed the unease lurking beneath the surface.
He opened his laptop and began to review his emails, scrolling through mundane updates and reminders. But then, one subject line caught his eye: "A Message from Your Past."
Curiosity piqued; he clicked on it. The email opened to reveal a familiar name he hadn’t seen in years—Elena. She had been a close friend in high school, someone who had always understood him deeply.
Subject: A Message from Your Past
Hey Angelo,
I hope this email finds you well. I know it’s been a while since we last spoke, and I’ve thought about you often. I’m reaching out because I’ve been reflecting on our time together, and it reminded me of how special our connection was.
Life has taken us on different paths, but I want you to know that I cherish the memories we made. I remember how you always had a way of making everything brighter, even during difficult times.
I’ve also heard about some of the changes in your life—new relationships, new beginnings—and I can’t help but feel a mix of happiness and nostalgia. I’d love to catch up and hear about everything that’s been going on.
Take care, and I hope to hear from you soon.
Elena
Angelo felt a rush of emotions as he read her words. Nostalgia washed over him, intertwining with the present tension he felt between Celeste and Briar. He remembered the late-night talks, the laughter they shared, and how Elena had always been a grounding force in his life.
But why was she reaching out now?
