Chapter 19 Jeremiah Is Behind It
Seryna’s wicked smile made the fat guy second–guess himself.
But after a moment, he steeled himself.
In his mind, Seryna was just a powerless girl, while Jeremiah was a financial genius with real influence. She wasn’t the family favorite, so once they married her off, she’d get nothing more than some money. No way she’d have the power to come after him for this.
“You think you’re the boss here?” the fat guy scoffed. “Let the cops come. I’m still teaching you a lesson today.”
“You’re an idiot,” Seryna said flatly.
His smirk faltered, “What did you just say?”

Just as he raised his arm for another slap, a silenced shot hit him in the chest. He twitched, then hit the floor.
The other two men froze and dropped into a crouch, arms over their heads.
Seryna watched, a faint, satisfied smile on her lips.
Natalie rushed over. “Seryna, are you okay?”
Seryna looked up, her face red and swollen. Natalie gasped.
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ve got you.” She untied the ropes, then gently wiped the sweat from her face with a tissue.

With this second shot at life, death only scared her if revenge didn’t come first.
Soon, the kidnappers were sent to the police station. The fat guy stirred, groggy and confused, then started half–shouting, “Let me go! I work for Mr. Jeremiah Willard!”
That was exactly what Seryna wanted to hear.
Natalie’s eyes widened. She couldn’t believe Jeremiah had ordered this.
She fixed her sharp gaze on the fat guy. If this got out, the Willard family’s reputation would be affected.
Then she looked at Seryna, who looked shaken and hurt. “Sera, are you sure you want to make this public? The police are involved. And your brother is behind it.‘
Seryna met her eyes, steady. “Yes, I want to know why he did this to me. I haven’t even met him.”
She hadn’t trained with Devona for nothing. Every lesson, every minute had led her here.
Now was the time to make Jeremiah pay.
Jeremiah was respected in high society, praised as a financial genius. But behind all the applause, he was just an arrogant, selfish jerk.
Natalie’s eyes softened. She admired Seryna’s strength.
If they let Jeremiah off the hook now, he would do something worse next time.”

“Come on,” Natalie said gently. “Let’s get your statement done.”
Seryna gave her a grateful smile. “Thanks, Natalie.”
Natalie smiled back. She liked tough girls like her.

At the Willard’s house.
Tehila sat beside Jeremiah in the living room, watching him scroll through market updates. The thought of Seryna suffering now made her feel good. But she put on a concerned look and said, “Jeremiah, I know you were just trying to protect me, but you need to tell them to go easy. She’s your biological sister.”
Jeremiah had a handsome face, and something about his eyes felt
feminine. He stroked her hair as he said, “Tila, you’re too soft–hearted. Seryna tried to frame you. I just reminded her of her place in this house.”
Tehila was overjoyed at his words. “What a bunch of idiots. A few fake tears, and now everyone is on my side,” she thought darkly.
Just then, Kolten rushed in, clearly flustered. “Mr. Willard, the police are here.”
Jeremiah frowned. “Police? What for?”
