Erin's control

Erin's control
The air in the demon arena was razor-sharp with anticipation. Black stone walls thrummed with enchantments, and the torches lining the circle flickered violently, sensing the power gathering within.

Erin stood barefoot in the center, sweat beading across her brow, her chest rising with steady breaths. Lena leaned lazily against a column, but her violet eyes gleamed with focus. Across from Erin, Kaelith—the veteran warlord, scarred and towering—watched her like a hawk sizing up prey.

“You’ve danced with pieces of yourself long enough,” Kaelith rumbled, his voice a growl that made the stone vibrate. “Today, you bring them together—or you break.”

Erin’s hands curled into fists. Lightning sparked faintly along her arms, her wolf’s growl echoing low in her chest. “I won’t break.”

Kaelith smirked. “We’ll see.”

Lena pushed off the column, stretching her fingers. Shadows coiled playfully around her, ready to strike. “Careful, little wolf. I don’t go easy on family.” She winked, but her aura swelled like a dark tide.

The command rang from Kaelith like a war drum: “Begin.”

Kaelith lunged first, a blur of strength, forcing Erin to dodge. His strikes cracked stone with each near-miss. Lena circled in the opposite direction, tendrils of shadow lashing at Erin’s feet, her hair whipping like a banner of darkness.

Erin countered, summoning wind to leap above Kaelith’s swing, flames bursting to scatter Lena’s shadows. But they pressed her harder—Kaelith’s brute force and Lena’s cunning weaving together like a net designed to crush her.

Her wolf snarled, muscles straining against impossible odds. Sparks burst from her skin, her storm threatening to spiral out of control.

Kaelith barked, “Separate no longer! Wolf and storm are halves of a broken blade—forge them!”

The pressure built until Erin thought she’d shatter. Her fire burned too hot. Her winds howled too wildly. Her wolf’s rage clawed at her bones.

And then—something clicked.

Not three parts warring. One whole being.

Her storm wrapped around her wolf, fire igniting within the gale, lightning threading through the growl of the beast inside. Her body glowed faintly, the markings of her heritage burning along her arms. The wolf within her howled—not alone, not apart, but merged with the storm.

Erin’s eyes snapped open, glowing like molten lightning. Her voice was both her own and her wolf’s when she spoke:
“I am Stormwolf.”

Kaelith swung a massive strike toward her chest. Erin caught it. Caught it. Lightning rippled from her hand into his arm, forcing the old warrior back a step for the first time.

Lena’s shadows wrapped around her neck in a chokehold. Erin’s storm flared, unraveling them like mist in sunlight. She turned with supernatural speed, pinning Lena to the wall in a flash of wind before pulling back with a grin.

For a suspended heartbeat, the arena was silent but for the echo of crackling energy.

Then Lena laughed, breathless and delighted, even as shadows coiled protectively around her. “Look at you, little wolf. Finally dangerous.”

Kaelith’s eyes burned with pride as he straightened, rolling his shoulder from the shock. “She held back from killing us. Controlled. Balanced. She’s ready.”

Erin’s power slowly receded, though sparks still danced in her hair, and her wolf purred contentedly inside. She swayed on her feet, exhaustion crashing over her, but she smiled faintly.

“Didn’t break,” she whispered.

Lena caught her before she could fall, holding her steady, pride shimmering beneath her teasing smirk. “No. You shattered everything else instead.”
The world around her dissolved in the middle of the spar.

Stone, fire, shadows, Kaelith, Lena—all of it broke apart into blinding white. Erin blinked and found herself standing barefoot in an endless storm. Wind howled. Lightning cracked. Fire burned in tornados around her.

And at the center of it all—her wolf.

Huge. Savage. Its fur was white threaded with black, its eyes molten gold. It stalked around her, restless, snarling—not at her, but at the storm itself. At the chaos.

“You’re tearing us apart,” Erin whispered, clutching her chest.

The wolf growled, lunging at the lightning. But the storm fought back, winds knocking it down, flames scorching its flank. Erin fell to her knees, tears stinging her eyes. She felt every burn, every wound.

“This isn’t working,” she choked. “We’ll die like this.”

The wolf staggered, its growls low and pained. The storm raged, wild and unclaimed. Erin’s heart thundered. She closed her eyes and reached.

“No… not apart. Together.”

She stood, forcing herself between the wolf and the lightning. Sparks struck her, flames licked her skin, the wind howled to shred her apart. She screamed—but didn’t move.

The wolf froze, golden eyes locking with hers. It hesitated, then stepped closer. The storm roared louder.

Erin opened her arms. “I’m not afraid. You’re not my curse. You’re me.”

The wolf pressed its head to her chest. The storm exploded. Instead of tearing her, it flooded her veins, filled her lungs, wrapped her bones.

The wolf’s fur turned into lightning. Its growl became the thunder in her throat. The storm itself bent, folding into her skin, her heartbeat syncing with the skies.

And for the first time—it wasn’t chaos. It was harmony.

Her eyes snapped open in the arena—glowing molten gold laced with silver lightning. Fire sparked along her hair, wind whipped around her legs, and her wolf growled through her own lips.

When she caught Kaelith’s strike and shattered Lena’s shadows, it wasn’t just raw strength. It was unity. Balance. A single force that answered only to her.

Nick was in the middle of a tense patrol, his pack on edge ever since Alfonso’s last failed attempt. His senses were sharp, his mind heavy with suspicions of Henry, but then—

It hit him.

Like lightning cleaving through the night sky, a wave of raw power surged straight into his chest. His breath caught. His knees nearly buckled. His wolf howled inside him—not in fear, but in recognition.

“Erin…” he whispered, clutching the railing of the overlook.

The others didn’t feel it, not the way he did. To them, it might’ve been just a distant ripple of energy, but to him, it was a tether snapping tight. A pull across realms, undeniable and fierce.

His wolf pressed hard against his ribs, desperate to run, to break every barrier, to reach her. Nick’s jaw clenched, his claws breaking skin as his hands curled into fists.

He could feel her storm inside him—wind coiling in his lungs, sparks racing through his veins. It wasn’t just her awakening—it was a part of her calling out to him.

And then the echo of her wolf joined it.

Nick staggered, chest heaving, eyes burning bright amber. For a brief, agonizing moment, he swore he could hear her heartbeat, fast and wild, in sync with his own.

“Erin…” His voice was hoarse, reverent, broken.

When the surge finally ebbed, leaving him gasping, Nick knew one thing with frightening clarity—
She had changed. She had grown stronger.
And she was farther from him than ever.

But no force, no realm, no curse would keep him away much longer.
