Chapter 163 (END)
Chapter 163 (END)
Rishima tightly held Zvonimir's hand, trying to steady her breath. She lowered her face to hide her strange emotions, her voice trembling, "I’m fine. I’m just heartbroken for Emily."
Rishima didn't intend to share her suspicions with Zvonimir. She feared that if the figure really was her, Zvonimir would tell Matthew.
Zvonimir, still prioritizing Rishima's safety, insisted on carrying her back to rest. He then brought Aaron and Misha to see her, and Mr. and Mrs. Miller, along with Shirley, also came. They embraced Rishima and cried uncontrollably.
Although Zvonimir had hidden things well, they still sensed that something unfortunate had happened to Rishima. A while ago, Zvonimir had been nearly frantic. But fortunately, they had found Rishima again, and she was still alive, though much thinner than before.
Then Zvonimir recounted everything to them. Mr. and Mrs. Miller were furious because Zvonimir's authoritarianism nearly cost Rishima her life, but they also understood that killing Emma to save Rishima was the only choice he could make at that moment. Shirley, too, was equally angry. She lunged at Zvonimir, hitting him mercilessly. Because he didn’t resist, it didn’t take long for his face to be scratched with deep blood marks by Shirley’s nails.
Rishima quickly intervened, "Enough, Shirley!"
Aaron and Misha also clung to Shirley’s legs, pleading, "Please, stop hitting our daddy."
Shirley scoffed, angrily shouting, "It’s all his fault! If it weren’t for him, why would Aimee conspire with Old Master Ashcroft to harm Rishima?"
Zvonimir bowed his head, silent, as though admitting Shirley’s accusations. Rishima, heartbroken, hugged him and comforted, "I don’t blame you. You didn’t know about their plan. We’ve missed each other for too long. Zvonimir, I don’t want to regret anything when I die. Let’s rebond."
Zvonimir, overjoyed upon hearing Rishima’s words, lifted her high, embraced her tightly, and cried like a cub.
"Rishima, I love you! I truly love you... From now on, I will be your slave, kneel at your feet, give you everything I have..."
Rishima smiled. In her first half of life, she had lived in pain, but perhaps the Moon Goddess saw that and wanted the second half of her life to be filled with happiness. She thought of Emily, a kind-hearted and compassionate female, and wished for her happiness as well.
"Zvonimir, I need you to help me with something."
...
Three years later, at Ellen Monastery.
Emily sat by the bed, looking at Mrs. Young, who was still in a deep coma. Her face looked as if she were just sleeping.
Three years ago, she had been ready to die with Roberto, but at the last moment, she thought of her mother. Emily realized that if she died, one day when her mother woke up, she would be alone and would suffer terribly. As she hesitated, she saw that Roberto had equipped himself with an anti-explosion device, so when the bomb exploded, he might not even die. She decided to throw the bomb away and jump into the sea.
Luckily, only her face was destroyed, but she was still alive. She attended her own funeral and saw Matthew crying loudly in front of her gravestone.
Emily found it absurd. Even after her death, Matthew still wanted to use her to build the image of a lovesick fool in front of everyone? But she couldn’t blame anyone. Everything that had led to this point was her own choice.
Emily thought she would live in darkness forever, but unexpectedly, Rishima quickly recognized her. With Rishima's help, Emily and her mother arrived at the Ellen convent. She became a nun there, praying day and night before the Moon Goddess, hoping that her mother would wake up like a miracle.
At that moment, Rishima gently placed her hand on Emily's shoulder, "Emily, Matthew is vomiting blood again, don’t you really want to visit him?"
Emily touched her disfigured face, self-mocking, "It doesn't matter. Rishima, he and I are done."
Rishima sighed. Over the past three years, Matthew had devoted all the resources of Moonlight to researching an antidote for Mrs. Young, even participating in the experiments to the point where he vomited blood many times. There was even a time when Roberto almost killed him because he believed Matthew had the antidote.
But the truth was Roberto had not yet developed the antidote, he lied to Matthew to help him escape from prison, and Matthew truly agreed. However, after escaping from prison, Roberto wanted to kidnap Matthew for ransom and run away. Matthew was extremely angry for being deceived, so he fought with Roberto, resulting in Roberto’s death and Matthew being permanently paralyzed in both legs.
When Rishima heard this news, she was devastated. In her memories, Matthew had once been a kind-hearted male, always ready to help her when she faced difficulties, but why did things end this way?
Emily was silent for a long time. Actually, she understood that Matthew was not the murderer who killed her father, but she thought that if he had rescued her father from prison earlier, maybe he wouldn't have died.
She knew her thoughts were selfish, but she really couldn't step over her father's body and her mother's illness to be with Matthew anymore.
Between them, this should be where it ends.
Rishima sighed and looked outside the door, where Matthew was sitting in a wheelchair, watching them.
He smiled faintly and shook his head at Rishima. Perhaps he had already accepted that Emily would not forgive him.
Two years ago, Matthew noticed that Rishima frequently entered and exited a monastery. At first, he didn't pay much attention, until one day he felt a deep sense of despair and hopelessness and wanted to seek the Moon Goddess's mercy. So, he went to the monastery to pray. And that was when he saw Emily.
Although her face had been disfigured, he still recognized her. However, he didn't dare approach her directly; he was afraid of seeing the hatred in her eyes. From then on, Matthew would secretly go to the monastery just to look at Emily. Just that alone made him happy.
It was fine as it was. As long as Emily was still alive, he would continue to live, striving to make up for her. One day, if Mrs. Young could not be cured and Emily wanted to leave with her, he would be by her side, ascending to heaven with her.
