Chapter 161
Chapter 161
Matthew stared blankly at everything before him. The flames ahead on the ship flickered, making the sky seem to burst into flames. Thick clouds of smoke swirled everywhere, the sound of screaming, heart-wrenching cries, and loud explosions tore through the air.
A chilling, indescribable feeling suddenly surged through Matthew's body, as if his blood had frozen. Time seemed to stand still in that moment.
Matthew's mind was blank for a moment, and he knew nothing... except that his heart ached as though it would explode.
"Emily..." He slowly called out her name, his mind gradually becoming clearer.
When he realized what had happened, Matthew almost went mad and shouted, "Emily! Emily!"
He suddenly jumped off the boat and ran toward a yacht, wanting to board it immediately. His subordinates looked at him in fear, worried he would be in danger, and each one tried to stop him.
"Boss, it's too dangerous over there, we can't go!" They said while trying to pull him back.
However, in Matthew's mind, there was only Emily. He didn't care about anything else. He just knew Emily couldn't die, she couldn't die!
Matthew forcefully pushed them away and started the yacht, speeding away quickly. The ship where Emily had been standing shattered from the strong explosion, and the entire ship slowly sank.
Zvonimir held Rishima tightly, who was crying uncontrollably out of fear that she might end up acting as recklessly as Matthew. In this situation, being emotional and acting was completely meaningless.
Zvonimir kept ordering his subordinates to hurry and rescue Emily, hoping she still had a chance to survive. Even though the ship had exploded, some of the wolves managed to jump into the sea and escape.
When Matthew caught up to the yacht, everything around him was burning fiercely, and cries of despair filled the air… Everywhere was blood, pools of bright red blood staining the surface of the sea.
Matthew paid no attention to anything else and crawled onto the ship, feeling the scorching heat of the waves. Just getting a little closer, the waves would burn his entire body with excruciating pain.
"Emily! Emily! Where are you?" Matthew frantically called Emily's name. He searched relentlessly, hoping to see the female he had longed for every day and night. But every time, it was disappointment.
In the chaotic scene, no one saw Emily.
Matthew kept shaking his head, gripping his hair tightly, and countless tears poured uncontrollably from his eyes.
It couldn’t be. Emily wouldn’t die… He couldn’t believe Emily was dead. He hadn’t even had the chance to ask for her forgiveness, hadn’t been able to be with her again… How could Emily die?
The rescue work continued for an entire day and night. Matthew rescued many wolves, including Roberto, who was lucky enough to jump into the sea in time without dying, though badly injured and unconscious.
Matthew stood there, confused, not understanding why Emily wasn't among them.
Suddenly, Matthew grabbed one of the victims, shouting, "Why did the boat suddenly explode? Tell me!"
The male, terrified from Matthew's interrogation, replied, "Mr. R caught the female named Emily, but she had a bomb... she said she wanted to die with us."
Hearing this, Matthew was stunned. What had he just heard? Emily was carrying a bomb... This meant she was closest to the bomb. So, her chances of survival were almost zero.
These evil males were still alive, even a demon like Roberto was only badly injured, but why was Emily dead?
Matthew couldn't bring himself to think any further, but even now, he still couldn't believe Emily was dead. He kept reassuring himself and continued the rescue work.
Time had passed so long, in fact, Matthew knew that even if she hadn’t died in the explosion, Emily might have drowned. But he didn’t want to believe it.
The sky had completely darkened, and the rescue efforts continued, but at this point, no one could be rescued. Even Zvonimir had given up, but Matthew still firmly believed that Emily was alive.
He stood there, motionless. As he stood, each second passed, and his heart ached just a little more. The night wind blew fiercely, Rishima stood behind Matthew, staring at him intently.
Rishima's eyes were red, as she had been crying all day. Emily's death had come as a huge shock to her. However, there was still something very important that she hadn't done. She still had something to say.
"Matthew, I have something to tell you..." Rishima bit her lip, recalling the last time Emily confided in her about what had happened after she faked her death. And now, she didn't want Emily to die with any more unjust accusations.
Rishima thought for a moment before speaking, "It’s about Emily."
Matthew didn't turn around, still sitting there, staring blankly. His eyes were still focused on the rescue boat ahead. Though he didn't speak, his entire body had stiffened.
Rishima knew that Matthew had heard her, and she continued, "Matthew, do you know why Roberto always kept me by his side and called me Jenna?"
Matthew frowned, slowly replying, "Because you resemble the female named Jenna, and Roberto liked Jenna, right?"
"Not exactly..." Rishima held her chest with both hands, feeling the heartbeat within.
"It’s because this heart belongs to Jenna. Jenna was the female that Roberto loved the most... That’s why he was able to transform me into Jenna and treat me well."
"What are you saying?" Matthew suddenly turned around.
He couldn’t believe what he had just heard. "How could that be? Didn’t you undergo surgery successfully back then? Wasn’t it Emily who…"
Matthew paused for a moment. He was about to say that Emily had given Rishima to Roberto out of selfishness. But as the words lingered on his lips, he couldn’t continue.
At that moment, he couldn’t say anything more about Emily’s wrongdoing.
"No, that's not it." Rishima shook her head at Matthew. "Matthew, back then, you must have understood the condition of my heart. The success rate of the surgery was only 5%, which is almost equivalent to 0%. Why did you think the surgery could succeed?"
