Chapter 158
Chapter 158
"Emily!"
Matthew grabbed her hand, wanting to say more, but she cut him off.
"Don’t think you’re blameless in my father’s death. You and Roberto are no different. You’ll always be my enemy, and I’ll still kill you if I have the chance."
"Emily..."
Matthew clenched his teeth. How could she compare him to that perverted lunatic Roberto?
His fists tightened as he snarled, "You want to run away with Peter, don’t you? Is he better than me in bed? Let me tell you something, no matter where you run, I’ll find you. You’ll never escape me!"
"You used this to track me, didn’t you?" Emily raised her arm. On it was a tiny black dot, like a mole.
Then, under Matthew’s horrified gaze, she took out a knife and carved a small hole in her arm, pulling out a tiny chip.
Matthew widened his eyes and shouted, "Are you insane?"
He lunged forward to seize the knife. Seeing her arm bleeding profusely, he felt as if his heart had been crushed, making it impossible to breathe.
Unexpectedly, Emily pressed the knife to her neck, her expression eerily calm. She said, "Either you let me go, or I’ll die right here in front of you."
"No! Emily, give me the knife."
Matthew trembled as he stepped forward, but the moment he lifted his foot, Emily drew the blade across her neck without hesitation. A thin line of blood appeared on her fair skin.
"How dare you do this?"
"Why wouldn’t I dare? When I’m not even afraid of death, do you think I fear your threats?"
Emily wasn’t afraid, but Matthew was. So he dared not take another step closer. Her face had already turned pale from the blood loss, and if he insisted on forcing her, he would only be harming her further.
Emily curled her lips into a cold smile. She removed the ring from her finger and hurled it at Matthew’s face. "From now on, there’s nothing between us."
With those words, she clutched her arm and rushed back into the car. The vehicle once again sped off down the road.
Matthew crouched on the ground, clutching his head, his heart writhing in pain. There was nothing between them anymore. He and she... was it really over?
Matthew picked up the ring and held it tightly to his chest like a treasure. He had once thrown it into the trash without a second thought, but now it had become the one thing anchoring his soul.
When Rishima saw Emily's bleeding arm after she returned to the car, she panicked and quickly said, "We need to go to the hospital."
"No, he’ll come after us..."
Emily knew Matthew well. Even if he let her go now, he might quickly change his mind. She didn’t want to lose the chance to escape.
Rishima nodded. "Alright, then we’ll go to Zvonimir’s secret villa. Matthew absolutely won’t be able to reach that place. Zvonimir already said he would find the best doctor to treat your mother. Don’t worry too much, everything will be alright."
As she drove, Rishima comforted Emily. She could have asked Zvonimir’s males to escort Emily from the hospital, but Emily was too terrified to be around strange alpha males, so she had to do it herself. Fortunately, they were almost out of Matthew’s sight now.
However, fortune rarely pays a visit, while misfortune is ever-present. After arriving at Zvonimir's mysterious villa, Emily’s mother was immediately examined by his doctor. But the results were far from what they had hoped.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Emily, your mother's condition is very serious. There's nothing we can do to wake her."
"What?"
Emily froze in panic, her entire body trembling. Her mother had collapsed during her father’s funeral, and since then, she had never regained consciousness.
"We've detected that she was injected with a new type of sedative. This drug has severe side effects. It’s still in the experimental phase and hasn’t been officially released, so there’s no known treatment."
Emily’s mind went blank, a buzzing in her ears, her whole body shaking uncontrollably.
The doctor continued, "As far as I know, across the entire federation, only the Thompson Corporation is conducting research on this drug."
"Thompson? That’s Roberto’s company!" Rishima exclaimed.
That was the same corporation responsible for the drug that had caused Rishima to lose her memory. She had accidentally overheard Roberto discussing it with his subordinates, which was how she learned the truth.
Emily clenched her fists tightly, her eyes filled with fury. "Doctor, is there still a chance to save my mother?"
The doctor shook his head. "There’s currently no antidote for this drug. It’s very likely that she’ll never wake up again."
Emily staggered backward, nearly falling as Rishima rushed to catch her. She had fought so hard to rescue her mother from Matthew’s grasp. Why did fate enjoy tormenting her so?
"Mommy..." Emily knelt beside her mother, weeping bitterly.
It was she who had brought tragedy upon her parents. If she hadn’t fallen in love with Matthew, perhaps her father wouldn’t have died, and her mother wouldn’t be lying unconscious now. Why was someone like her, who deserved death, still alive?
Roberto!
It was all that bastard Roberto’s doing! She would have her revenge!
Emily wiped away her tears, and calmly said to Rishima, "Rishima, while I’m away, please help take care of her..."
"Emily, don’t make a reckless decision! Roberto is ruthless. You can’t take him on. Let Zvonimir help you get revenge, okay?"
Emily shook her head. "I’m not going after Roberto. I just need some time alone to settle my emotions. I’ll be back soon, Rishima, don’t worry."
With that, Emily walked out of the room, her gaze turning cold. Rishima wasn’t wrong. Roberto was powerful, and she was no match for him. But Rishima and Zvonimir had finally found each other again. They had three babies. A family to care for.
And she, Emily, had only a broken body and a heart full of hatred. So let her end it all herself.
She couldn’t take Roberto down by force. So what if she used a bomb?
All she needed was to strap one to herself, wait until she saw Roberto, and press the detonation button. When that time came, she and Roberto... would descend into hell together, to face her father.
