Chapter 155
Chapter 155
During the meal, Rishima said, “Zvonimir, back at Roberto’s villa, I think I saw someone locked up in his basement. Can you help me investigate that?”
“Mm.” Zvonimir nodded absentmindedly, his response perfunctory, clearly not taking her words to heart.
He assumed that whatever was in the basement was probably just a disobedient dog.
...
Peter Brown gave money to Roberto to get Emily out of the basement. Perhaps to Roberto, Emily no longer had any use.
When Peter saw her, her clothes were in tatters, wounds covering every inch of her skin, leaving almost no spot untouched. Her mental state was off too. She looked like... she had gone mad.
Peter brought Emily back to the empire for treatment. During her time in the basement, Roberto had beaten her so badly that her mind descended into chaos.
But just as Emily’s condition began to stabilize, Matthew found her and brought her back to Moonlight. Matthew believed Emily was merely pretending to be deranged, so he repeatedly forced her to have sex with him. He didn’t even tell her about Bob’s sudden death due to a brain hemorrhage.
Until one day, when Matthew was away, Emily sat alone in the garden, her eyes vacant, when she overheard someone talking.
“Emily’s so pitiful. She doesn’t even know her father is dead.”
“Matthew deliberately kept it from her. I heard Bob found out Matthew was imprisoning and abusing Emily, and he got so angry his brain vessels burst and he died.”
“I think it’s better that Emily’s gone mad. Otherwise, I fear she would’ve taken her own life.”
Boom...
In that moment, Emily felt the world spin. It was as if every blood vessel in her body froze. Her father was dead... the father who had always loved her was dead... he had been angered to death by Matthew!
Ha ha ha...
Emily suddenly laughed, tears of blood trickling from the corners of her eyes. She pulled at her hair, strands falling messily to the ground. Her gaze turned vacant and emotionless. She then slowly returned to her room and slammed the door shut. Her father was gone. So what was the point of clinging to this insane world any longer?
...
Matthew sat in the car, staring at the villa. Right now, he didn’t even dare to step into his own home. Holding the ultrasound report in his hand, he hadn’t even had the chance to feel happy about becoming a father when the news of Bob’s death arrived. The old male had been enraged to death by him.
He knew exactly how much Emily valued her parents. To save Bob from imprisonment, Emily was willing to endure being sexually coerced by him. But if she found out her father had died and that he was the murderer. How much would she come to hate him?
Would she still bear the cub of the male who killed her father?
In truth, when Matthew brought Emily back from Peter, he had already realized her mental state was fragile. But he couldn't bear her indifference, watching her drift in the delusions of her own world. So he tried to force her to have sex with him, making her feel the physical sensations he gave her.
But Matthew had truly never imagined things would come to this.
"No. I absolutely cannot let her find out. If she does, she'll leave me forever."
Matthew took a deep breath and drove into the house. He went straight to the room, and when he opened the door, he saw Emily sitting on the bed with her back to him.
"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"
Matthew casually asked while removing his tie, completely unaware that something was different about Emily.
"I already know my father is dead."
Matthew's entire body stiffened instantly. His heart pounded wildly, his face turned pale. After a moment, he spoke in a calm voice, "Yes, he died of a heart attack. Don’t be too heartbroken."
He stepped forward and embraced Emily from behind, speaking gently, "You're pregnant now, so I didn’t want to tell you. I know you’re grieving, but please, for our baby’s sake, stay strong. I promise to treat you well from now on."
Matthew had thought it through. Rishima was now safely back with Zvonimir, and Emily had paid the price for what she had done. Bob’s death had dealt her a heavy blow. So he no longer wanted to torment her.
For the baby’s sake, he was willing to try living peacefully with Emily, as long as she stayed obediently by his side.
"A heart attack? Wasn't it a cerebral hemorrhage?"
Emily's voice came cold and haunting, making Matthew flinch. Before he could react, she had already swung an iron rod down on him.
"Matthew! Die!"
Matthew swiftly grabbed the iron rod and shouted, "Are you crazy? I told you you're pregnant. Didn't you hear me? Just because your father died, does that mean you don't care about the safety of the baby anymore?"
Matthew tried to snatch the rod from Emily's hand, but she wouldn’t let go and continued striking him. Caught off guard, he took several blows, and fresh blood immediately streamed down from his forehead to his chin.
He never expected Emily to hit him so ruthlessly. Did she really want to kill him?
Matthew's heart suddenly clenched, a wave of sorrow overwhelming his rationality.
"Enough!" Matthew seized the rod and flung it aside, inadvertently pulling Emily down with it.
Bang!
A deafening sound echoed. Matthew's pupils trembled violently. Emily lay sprawled on the floor, blood gushing between her thighs. He rushed to lift her up, panic-stricken, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..."
He carried her outside at full speed, terror flooding his chest. With that much blood loss, the baby likely couldn’t be saved. Yet in that moment, he held no resentment, only murmured comfort, "It’s okay, Emily. Everything will be alright."
Emily stared wide-eyed at Matthew, fury blazing in her gaze. All she wanted now was to kill him.
"Matthew, my father died because of you! I’ll kill you! I’ll destroy you at all costs!" Emily screamed. Her body was limp and drained of strength. Otherwise, she would have lunged at him and bitten through his throat without hesitation.
She cursed him relentlessly, but Matthew didn’t respond. He focused solely on driving, rushing her to the hospital. He believed the baby was the only tie that still bound them. If the baby were born, maybe in a year or two, Emily’s hatred would soften, and she might love him again.
