Chapter 26: She Didn't Die

Chapter 26: She Didn't Die
Chapter 26: She Didn't Die

Romano

Judging by the picture, I was convinced that Gabriel was aging because he had grey hair and his skin was already wrinkling. The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that he did not seem like he was a fucked up and dangerous man and it made me angry because anyone would think he is a kind and generous me when he is really a fucking scum.

“Show me the others,” I said to Caleb through gritted teeth.

He moved the picture of Gabriel to the side and slid the next picture.

From the picture, there were three images, two of them were men and I recognized one as Marco and the man, I have never seen him before in my entire life. The pictures were in black and white so I really couldn't figure out their faces, however, it was too unnoticeable to recognize the last picture. My heart dropped when he slid the next one in front of me. This felt so wrong because there wasn't a day that I stared at her face, knowing that she was not here anymore. Just felt so wrong.

“Marco was Gabriel's son.” He revealed and it instantly caught my attention. I shook my head as I averted my attention away from the picture to him. Kelvin just darts his gaze at me as shock filled his face, he pointed at the second picture of the man who I did not recognize.

“This is Nathan, one of Gabriel's men and the last one is Sophie, his daughter.” He muttered as he put the pictures aside.

“Nathan is someone I have never met, so dig deeper into him. I need everything I can have on Gabriel before I bring him down. I want to prove to Benjamin that my theory about him is correct.”

I moved away from the table to leave the room but Caleb stopped me when he called out my name. I looked over my shoulder to see both of them just watch me with a state of disbelief. Caleb was holding a phone as he stood close to Kelvin while the latter was blinking at me as well as the screen of the phone.

“Romano?” He called.

Confusion was drawn all over Caleb's face as he continued but there was nothing coming from him.

“What?”

“These pictures were taken recently but it doesn't make sense.” I walked back to the table to get a clear view of what they were talking about. He shoved his phone away on the table and grabbed the pictures again, particularly Sophie's and glared at it.

“I thought Sophie was dead?”

I furrowed my brows and glared at Caleb, he didn't make any sense abs nor did this. He was right, if these pictures were taken recently then, how did Sophie…

“Romano,” he looked up at me and shook his head.

“Sophie didn't die, it is only in the files.”

Caleb's words traveled to one ear and left out the other. My body froze in its place as I stared wide-eyed at her picture and just thought about this theory because it couldn't be true. I did my research only to find out that she did die, her own father killed her. I have spent three years convinced with myself that she died. I went through shit to make myself believe that she was gone forever. This revelation only hit me so hard that it hurts me because I was fucking downward spiral of darkness, Sophie was alive all these years and I didn't even know.

“S..she.. she is dead.” I began to tremble as my body left the state of shock.

“She can't be alive, I..I was..her...”

Caleb's face dropped when he stood up and watched me with complete shock.

“She is alive, man. Sophie didn't die that day.” He repeated and honestly I never felt so heart broken before. My chest hurt every time I inhaled and my vision began to blur with tears that I never knew would exist.

My mind was blowing with a lot of unanswered questions and my subconscious repeated itself over a million times. How? My whole body become numb when I no longer felt anything at all or even heard anything because this was something that really fucked me up in many different ways. I fall back onto the chair behind me and endeavor to get my head around the news that I never thought I would head in a million years. Fuck, I don't even know if I wanted to hear this at all because I wasn't sure how to deal with it.

“Romano, don't let this push you back.” Caleb said.

“We still need to do this.” I looked up at him and stared at him feebly.

“This has to be a mistake, Caleb. Sophie isn't alive, she died three years ago. She died in front of me.”

“No, Romano. There is no mistake, in fact, the only mistake here is that you didn't check if she really died or not?” He replied as he stepped closer and then sat next to me.

“Tell me, did you physically check if she was dead?” He asked, I closed my eyes as realization settled upon me before I shook my head.

“Exactly, you didn't check which only makes sense. Don't be naive about this, Romano. Sophie isn't dead.”

“What are we going to do now?” Kelvin asked, breaking the tension immediately.

“A lot of things.” I mumbled.

“First, we have to find the whereabouts of Sophie and what had happened to her and then I will start to bring the fucker down.” I said as I turned to face Caleb.

“I don't want Sophie in between this, I want her to be clear from all this.” He nodded his head.

I will find Sophie no matter what the cost may be because I need answers. I can't fathom it that she is still alive all these years. My head was still trying to figure out how and why, the only thing that really bothered me was that if she was alive all these years, why didn't she stay back that night? Why did she leave? My heart dropped to my stomach as realization hit me. What is going on?

“You tell me.”

“No, you fucking the him.”

Their voices knocked me out of my speculation as they both were whispering bullshit to each other. I glared at them, they watched me in disbelief again and. their faces were filled with disturbance.

“Tell me what?” I asked as I cut in and none of them uttered a word.

“Speak up! I don't have time for this bullshit!”

“Boss, Nathan is Sophie's fiance.”

Bullets were fired as I made my way through the mansion, my foot abruptly stopped in the tracks. I glanced over my shoulder before my eyes scanned the surroundings to see what was going on. What is going on?

‘H..hey…w.. where are you taking me?’

A giggle erupted from the main hall that it immediately made me get back on my feet because it was the giggles I was yearning to hear. Moreover, I wanted to see that face which was the only reason why I was here. I reached the main hall only to be stopped again because what I saw really baffled me. In fact, it made me begin to worry because everyone seemed to dismiss my suspicious about this family earlier but what that actually fuck was I witnessing now?

'L..leave me alone, I have to meet..’

A couple of men were holding Sophie down as Gabriel, her own father was behind her. She spoke her last words before she fell victim to unconsciousness and he smiled as he stood behind her, quiet as he can be. He then nodded at the man who glanced at him for assurance before one of them threw her over his shoulder and then began to walk away through the hallway to the front yard. Before they could reach it, I quickly hid myself behind the huge curtains and watched them there, my heart froze as I watched the scene unfold in front of me, I should be doing something about this but something stopped me because I knew that if I did, I would be ruining some deal Benjamin had with this motherfucker. But I let it happen because I needed to justify my thoughts and theory. However, it didn't stop me from following them at all. If only I knew what was about to unravel in the next hour or two, I would have gotten myself and Sophie out of it.

I sucked out a breath as I came back to what felt like fucking hell but it was reality, my head ached and my heart exploded in my chest become that was one night I never dared to think about. But now, I have, I can't handle it. That night changed my life for the worst, my face was drenched with angry tears as I reminisced about the past. About that night, it was my biggest nightmare and my biggest regret.
