Chapter 67 Theron of All Trades

Chapter 67 Theron of All Trades
Eden’s Point of View

“What do you mean by no?” I asked, anger rising in my chest, he wasn’t giving me a definitive answer, calling it a family-related case, and he is urging us to try to reach other family members.

But if he had been listening to me throughout my claims, he would have heard where I told him specifically that we are unable to reach any family members.

“There are children who need your services, and one of them is sensory impaired and can’t speak. I don’t think you understand your job if you are going to sit behind a desk and say some nonsense.” I snapped, my hands running into my hair. “Just thinking about the horror of two little kids alone at home by this time of night is alarming.”

“Ma’am, we are a child abuse protection organization; we don’t accommodate children for a few days. This isn’t a hotel.” He continued in the same dismissive voice. “We can only step in and provide services when there is a physical abuse issue, sexual abuse issue, and or an abandonment issue, so until there is one, please don’t prank call.”

The fact that he was talking down to me like I was a little girl just set me off. I was flabbergasted, unsure of what to say or do—but one thing was certain, I was going to punch this motherfucking bastard in the face whenever I saw him.

“Don’t you dare hang up this call—” The words finished out of my mouth when the phone suddenly slipped from my hands—I froze, my eyeballs almost hanging out of their sockets, and whatever hurtful words that were about to leave my mouth suddenly rolled down my throat, as Theron leaned into the counter, almost crushing me as he leaned into me as well.

“Hello… This is the medical director of the Adler’s Medical Foundation, Theron Alder, and you were on the phone with my wife, Eden, just now.” He introduced smoothly, his voice deep and sensual (like melting butter) as he placed the phone against his ears. “I am not going to overlook the fact that you have been very rude to her and have taken your job lightly. I am going to file a complaint against you as a very shameful officer who doesn’t take his job seriously—we don’t need shithead like you in the industry, people like you who don’t understand the value of children.”

“Uh… My God, I am sorry.” I could hear him stuttering, and I bit down on my lips—is this Theron trying to show me he is stronger than me again? Or was he helping? “T-the thing is I wasn’t actively listening to what she was saying, now that you mention it… I realize it’s that bad, I will send some people to the hospital right away.”

Theron chuckled darkly, unimpressed.

“Does it have to take a man to talk to you on the phone to understand the severity of a situation?” He queried, and I felt my heart skip a beat in my chest.

Theron was so hot whenever he was delivering points like this.

I mean, he might be a jerk to everyone, but I have noticed he doesn’t seem to take abusers with a light hand.

I want to believe this side of him is true, but I know him, and I know how rotten he is… he might be doing this to fool me again.

“Come to the hospital yourself.” He added before ending the phone call, and in an instant, I snatched the phone back from his hands—I hope he wasn’t hoping for some appreciation because he wouldn’t get any.

The nurses in the reception, Doctor Felicia, and even Lola seemed to have grown a sudden admiration for him in just a few seconds; they looked like they were about to start clapping for him or something.

I thought we all hated this bastard.

“What’s the situation?” He asked, and I slipped my phone in my pocket, unwilling to answer him.

“Uhm, the thing is that…” Felicia started, but Theron stopped her almost immediately, raising a hand.

“I would like to hear from Eden.” His gaze, dark and smoldering, flickered towards me, his hands slipping from his pocket, and a taunting smirk reached his mouth. “Tell me, as the attending doctor in charge of the surgery, what is the situation with your patient?”

He is asking me because he was expecting me to cower and to stutter…

I refused to cower… I shouldn’t be the one who is ashamed; he should cover his face in shame for holding a grown woman in such a cowardly position and then assaulting her.

Yes, that’s the word I am going to use… assault.

“My patient has three children, and she is in a situation where she can’t care for those children.” He interrupted me before I could finish.

“So, you become mother hen?” That was a mocking tone.

“If that is how you put it, then yes,” I answered immediately. “Her oldest was in the restaurant with her during the attack,” I pointed towards the girl

”—She is only eight years old, she is deaf and speech impaired, besides that, she has two other siblings who are 4 and 2, respectively, both have no idea what happened to their mother or why their mother isn’t home yet.”

He hummed, the cheerfulness flowing out of his face.

“That is such a terrible thing.” He clicked his tongue. “Is that the girl?”

I nodded, and Theron walked up to her. He towered powerfully over her, and the girl took a step backwards… same honey, same!

I would run the fuck away if I were a child and I saw a man like Theron.

And surprisingly, he brought his hands out of his pocket and signed; Felicia, Lola, and I shared a look. Theron can interpret? He is a successful doctor, he can cook, he can fuck real good, a master womanizer, and now he is also a sign language interpreter?

Is there anything this man cannot do?

The girl’s face suddenly lit up; her joy would be strong enough to power up the whole building, and she neared him; they both exchanged signs and communicated with each other.

“I think your husband is a magician?” Lola whispered near my ears and I leaned in to whisper back.

“More like a demon.”

Felicia heard, and she gave us both a confused look—Yep, she will never understand. A few minutes of that, and he walked back towards us. “You call yourself a doctor, and you don’t even ask for her name?” Came his accusatory voice, and it hit that I didn’t know the girl’s name. Theron grabbed my arms and then pointed at Lola. “You are also coming with me.”

My eyes narrowed; Lola and I glanced at each other in confusion. “Where are we going?” I asked curiously.

“We are going to Kate’s house to bring her siblings to the hospital.”
