Chapter 26 Dinners With The In-Laws

Chapter 26 Dinners With The In-Laws
Theron’s Point of View

I didn’t think it would be so easy to fool the doctor; she was quite sharp and quick-witted, but turns out that at the end of the day, she remains a woman who is needing of love. Well, all of this works in my advantage; I don’t need to cajole her for too long. It would be such a hassle if I had to.

During the entire flight, she was quiet; she had earbuds on at some point, just listening softly to her music whilst she nodded her head.

She didn’t notice, but I watched her the entire time. One of her hands was fixed in the pocket of the sweatpants she was wearing, while the other one clutched a book tightly; she purchased the book while we got to the airport. I guess she was trying to avoid any form of confrontation with me.

A knowing smile tugged at my lips as I wondered what her decision would be when we reached San Francisco.

Would she decide to change her mind and not sleep with me? Or will she be willing to still sleep with me? She had a nerve of steel, but she also looked like someone who could chicken out at any given moment.

I wouldn’t try to deny that I find her attractive, attractive enough to sleep with, in fact, my dck twitches whenever I perceive her perfume.

Soft and feminine.

And what makes me the weakest is those big, lovely honey-brown eyes that always seem like they were begging… It made me want to find out what it would feel like to have her on her knees with my dck in her mouth, while she stared at me with tears in those eyes, being half-lidded from her arousal.

What her pleasured twisted expression would do to my body.

A text was entered into my phone.

“Come home for dinner.” Father sent, and a smile played on my lips.

Well, two things might be happening here.

One, my father is calling us home for dinner because he heard from Mother that Thorne dated Eden in the past, and he wants to know if I knew about it, or if Eden knew beforehand that I was Thorne’s brother and decided to marry me anyway.

Two, my father heard from Attorney Wilson about the charges I am pressing against David Gomez, and he wants to hear the full details.

Nothing gets past him, but I have been living with my parents for the past 35 years, and I have studied them to perfection; one is more like my mother’s style, the second is what I am gambling on. After my marriage to Eden, I knew my father would keep his ears to the ground to try to listen, try to find out if I am fit to be a husband.

Own and protect my wife.

That’s the kind of man he would want me to be. I might be lacking several emotions, but I shouldn’t allow that to hinder my judgment.

And if I fail, then he would have no choice but to make Thorne the director of the hospital. A man who isn’t fit to be a husband to his wife isn’t fit to be the director of the hospital. I have been thinking about ways to prove to him, but none seemed normal. Romantic dates weren’t working because Eden still seemed wary of me.

And that was where David Gomez, my scapegoat, came in, and I realized that even the heavens were on my side in this battle of leadership.

The joy that coursed through my veins when I saw him groping her, and I knew I could make an issue out of it. Being the hero husband who is possessive of his wife and wouldn’t let anyone harm her would certainly boost my XP.

“We are going to my parents’ place,” I told her the moment we landed. “The driver will take our things home.”

I noticed a certain shift in her expression; she didn’t seem unhappy, but she didn’t seem comfortable either, so I reached for her hands softly and held them. While I am building trust with her, I need to be as perfect as I can be.

So, I smiled, my hands cupping her face softly.

“Don’t worry, we will just have dinner and go back home,” I assured her. “They just want to congratulate us, and I believe Father has something to say to both of us.”

She nodded at me, a faint smile forming on her face.

“Welcome home.” Father seemed very cheerful; he was grinning from ear to ear. I haven’t seen him smile this much in the last 20 years. He moved close for Eden to embrace him; she had a small, nervous smile on her face as well. “How was your trip to Hawaii?”

“It was beautiful.” She answered honestly, glancing at me. “I have never been to Hawaii before; it was my first time.”

“Obviously.” Mother muttered as she joined us in the living room, her eyes were dark, filled with hate and disgust.

“Mother,” I called her warningly, with a smile. As soon as we were gathered completely, we moved to the dining room where all the meals had already been served—hot, tasty, and fresh.

“We would be complete in this table if Thorne didn’t run away from home.” Mother muttered as she picked up her cutlery, and Father glared, his throat, gaze hardening. Mother’s eyes flickered towards Eden, who seemed pressured just by the mention of Thorne’s name.

Yeah, I forgot to tell her my parents know about her relationship with Thorne. Well, I didn’t forget; I intentionally didn’t tell her. I want her nervousness to be real, as it is right now.

My eyes darted to her hands underneath the table; they clutched her clothes tightly, and I smirked.

“Can we just eat?” Father muttered with disapproval of mother’s taunt.

“Eden, why are you not asking anything about Thorne?” Mother asked venomously, smiling evilly. “Are you aware that your husband has a younger brother?”

Eden’s eyes darted towards me as if she was asking for help, and of course, I would help her; I just needed her more desperate for me.

“Uh…I…” She muttered as her eyes flickered towards Father and then landed back on Mother, her hands clutched her clothes even more tightly. “Um…I—”

“That’s enough, Giselle.” Father snapped. “Let the poor girl eat; she has been through so much already.”

“I never said she couldn’t eat; I only asked her a question that would be easy to answer if she isn’t hiding anything.” Mother’s gaze flickered between Father and Eden. “Isn’t that right, Eden?”

“Actually, Eden knows Thorne; she told me about her ex-boyfriend in high school.” I started, as I reached for her hand, clutching her dress—It’s working.

She glanced at me, and relief filled her eyes. I gave her my hand instead, urging her to hold on to me for support. “That was about ten years ago; she didn’t know I was related to Thorne, and we didn’t have the chance to discuss it since we got married the week we met.”

Father nodded.

“Theron is right, if there is any information we have failed to recover from Eden, it would be our fault.” He was on my side, his smile grew wider, and I could tell just how happy my father was. “Our daughter-in-law has rights to have a previous relationship, doesn’t she?”

Mother grumbled something under her breath.

“I would be more satisfied if you both allowed the girl to speak for herself.” She snapped, and Eden cleared her throat. It was clear she seemed intimidated by my mother.

“Um… my relationship with Thorne was brief; we dated for three months.” She confessed.

“Why did you break up? For Thorne to have ended the relationship, then there must be something wrong with you.” Mother concluded automatically. “I am just watching out for my other son; I don’t want him to become a victim. Did you cheat on him?”

I scoffed.

“Mother, please.” I snapped. “Thorne cheated on her instead, and she ended the relationship because she felt disrespected.”
