Chapter 172 I'll Handle It
Chapter 172 I'll Handle It
Eden’s Point of View
“Lola wanted to come with me to get you,” Theron explained his own part of the story as soon as we got into the car; apart from Lola, his driver also came to pick us up.
Lola wouldn’t stop whining about how horrible Theron had been treating her at work ever since I disappeared, and how horrible she feels because she can’t report him to the board of directors since he is now the chairman of the hospital.
“Naturally, I refused to let her come with me,” He confessed gruffly.
“But why?” I asked with quiet concern, as much as I want to listen to the rest of this very intriguing story, I was sleepy. “She is probably worried about me, that’s why she was insistent.”
“I know, but I wanted to be alone with you.” His fingers found mine, and they crawled into my palm, holding me tightly.
My heart raced from the small gesture, and the smile on his face made my cheeks warm.
“Lola is stubborn, I know she would come either I agreed to it or not, so guess what I did.” He glanced at me briefly.
“What?” Still interested, I murmured.
“Since I am the Medical Director and the newly appointed chairman of the hospital, I decided to take power.” He said smugly, the underlying evil in his eyes, says he didn’t regret it one bit, and at the right opportunity, he was going to do it again.
“No way.” I gasped at his statement. “Is it what I am thinking?”
“Yep,” He nodded, that proud smirk remained on his lips. “I assigned all surgeries to her that day, so she couldn’t leave her post—not even for a bathroom break.”
“Isn’t that workplace bullying?” I asked, my eyes were starting to feel droopy, and he just shrugged. “You’re so evil, Theron.”
“She knows why I did it, and to make things up to her, I allowed her to meet us at the airport, in addition to giving her a day off.” He leaned back. “You can’t find a more perfect boss than me.”
I laughed, resting my head against his shoulder, and slowly I felt myself drift into sleep, maybe it’s because of the stress from the travelling, or because I was too happy, and my mind was at ease—but sleep came easily and unexpectedly.
I know that as long as I am with Theron, nothing could ever go wrong.
“Huh?” I muttered as my eyes opened to Theron carrying me, and from the corner of my eyes, I could see the driver carrying something.
“You’re awake?” He asked, staring down at me, as he climbed up the steps that led to the front door of the house. “Such a shame, you slept so soundly.”
“How long was I asleep for?” I asked curiously. “Em, the whole ride.”
“And snowball?” I asked the moment the door opened, and he strode inside, the familiar scent of the house wafted into my nose, unlocking something inside me, something I didn’t know existed, and the realization of how much I missed here brought tears to my eyes.
“The housekeepers would handle him, don’t worry.” He assured me as he proceeded up the stairs to our bedroom.
“I can walk through,” I told him again, wondering if he wasn’t uncomfortable carrying me, or if I wasn’t heavy.
“I know.” He muttered; a half-smile curved his lips. “I like doing this. It gives me a sense of importance.”
“Importance?” My eyebrows shot up, obviously surprised. “Do you not feel important?”
“Compared to what you’re doing for us right now, no.” He confessed, but he didn’t sound sad. “I don’t know what it feels like to be pregnant, but in my years of practice, I know it becomes even more difficult for the mother as the child grows; I want to be the kind of husband you can depend on for anything.”
The rhythm of my heartbeat, slow and heavy, felt as if it was going to burst out of my ribcage as excitement flooded my veins.
“I want you to depend on me for even something as measly as brushing your teeth, as long as you want it, I will do it. Being involved in all these things makes me feel like I am actively doing something for you, too. It makes me feel important.” He reached for the doorknob to our bedroom and opened the door. “You carry our baby, and I will carry you both—always.”
Unable to control my excitement, I threw my arms around his neck and buried my face in the crook of his neck, the tears that stirred in my eyes rolling down to wet his shirt.
“Love?” He called for me, but I said nothing—I wasn’t able to say anything.
“I love you so much,” I whispered. “I love you, Theron.”
I felt him stiffen, and I raised my head; Theron seemed shocked, but the shock quickly dissolves and he masked his expression with a smirk—a very handsome one.
“Who wouldn’t love me?” He grinned, gently placing me on the bed. “Oh, and before I forget, your father texted you while you were asleep.”
“Father?” I asked curiously, I don’t even remember I had one; Theron nodded.
“He wants to see you.” He continued, and my eyebrows furrowed together with disinterest.
“What does he want?”
“That is exactly what we are going to find out tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” Flabbergasted, I asked, and he nodded. “Yes, I scheduled a meeting with him.” I shook my head.
“I don’t want to see him. Nothing good ever comes from him reaching out to me.” I shook my head, my chest tightening. “He probably wants to complain about something, or remind me about how much of a failure I am.”
“Hey, babe, shhh…” Theron silenced me, placing his fingers on my lips. “Calm down, remember you can’t panic—not while I am here.”
I sucked in a deep breath, and he nodded.
“Good girl,” His voice low and seductive as he palmed my hair. “You probably don’t see it, but you’re not the failure he remembers; you are a phenomenon, don’t face him tomorrow with a slouched shoulder, raise your fucking chin as high as it can, because you are the most intelligent, strong, and resilient woman I have ever met in my life.”
He held my cheeks, staring deeply into my eyes. “I want you to show him the Eden that you showed me, and if there is anything you don’t let, you tell me, I will handle it.”
