Chapter 13 Unexpected Gift

Chapter 13 Unexpected Gift
Eden’s Point of View

“He was saying a lot of things that annoyed me.” I snapped, burying my head in my hands, not that I expected him to understand the disrespect I felt, because he is also someone who openly disrespects me as well.

“And so, what?” Father slammed…I knew it.

I knew he wasn’t going to see anything wrong with that bastard talking to me like I was some kind of merchandise.

“So, you were expecting me to sit through such torturous conversation?” I asked in disbelief, my voice breaking. “Do you even have a heart, father?”

“And do you even use your brain, Eden?” He retorted. “The future of the hospital depended on how well this date went. And then you went to ruin it.”

I sniffed back the tears that had stirred in my eyes.

“Now, what you have to do is simple: call him and apologize to him.” He insisted, and I shook my head.

“No, father,” I snapped, and before he could threaten me even further, a sharp ring from his phone interrupted me.

“Shit!” He cursed, and then his eyes flickered back towards me. “It’s Dr. Keegan; Theron probably told him about your shameful and disgraceful acts.”

More tears stumbled out of my eyes, because I knew it was over, while I was relieved that I might not have to marry Theron again, this was the only chance we had to bring the hospital back from its ruins.

And now, that chance is gone.

“Dr. Adler, good evening, sir,” Father muttered into the phone as he walked away from me, and I wiped the tears from my eyes. “I am truly ashamed of my daughter’s actions.”

He paused slightly, his eyes darting back towards me. I could tell my presence mounted his anger, and I looked away.

“There will be no need for that, but if you could give us one more chance,” he paused again, I think listening to what Dr. Adler was saying, and something ignited in his eyes.

I didn’t know if it was hope…

“That would be magnificent.” His voice calmed he was no longer on the edge. “She is down; I tell you.”

He is smiling now…which makes me a little scared and worried.

He probably just sold my future.

“Okay.”

Another pause, and then he looked at me, smiling.

“Yeah, thank you, goodbye.”

He dropped the phone on the couch, and I felt myself jolt.

“God saved you, Eden, because had anything gone wrong, then I would have probably killed you myself.” He threatened, and I felt my heart racing. What does this mean? What is this supposed to mean?

“Dr. Adler would like to speak to you, be on your best behavior, grovel and beg if you have to.” He suggested, and I felt myself grimace before leaving, climbing up to my room.

My phone rang, and it was an unknown number as well. I could tell it was Dr. Adler.

“Good evening, Dr. Adler,” I muttered, trying to sound like I wasn’t crying.

“Dr. Eden, I am glad I can talk to you.” He sounded relieved. “Theron refused to give me your contact; I had to call your father to get it.”

He explained, and I knew that this was the perfect time to grovel and beg just like Father had asked.

“I am deeply sorry for the embarrassment that I caused. I don’t know what came over me, Dr. Adler. I am sorry.” I begged. “I would also call Dr. Theron to apologize as well.”

“There will be no need to apologize, I am sure he did something to you to warrant your response.” His voice was light compared to how I remembered it. “Instead, I want to apologize for my son’s behavior. I will assure you that he is not usually like this.”

This was unbelievable. Dr. Adler was apologizing to me instead?

I am glad I wasn’t blamed on two sides; a small sigh of relief escaped my parted lips.

“I hope you understand.” He muttered, and I nodded, forgetting that he couldn’t see me.

“Yes, sir.” I finally answered. “I understand.”

“Thank you so much, Dr. Eden.”

I heard a loud knock on the door, and before I could answer, Gia burst in.

“Pardon me for coming in without permission, Ma’am.” She squealed, her body trembling slightly. “There is a package downstairs for you.”

“Can’t you just pick it up?”

“Can you come and see it for yourself?” she asked, and I followed her down the stairs. I can hear Dad talking and even laughing. He was livid just some minutes ago, and now he is giggling and laughing?

“Is she coming, Gia?”

“I am here, father,” I mumbled as I reached the bottom of the stairs.

And to my surprise, there were boxes and shopping bags, a lot of them, the whole living room was basically filled with them, and the suspected delivery men even wheeled more in.

“What is all of this?” I asked curiously, my eyes raked over everything they had brought, and father smiled, getting closer to me.

“Theron sent them.”

“Why?” I asked in confusion. He seemed ticked by my idea of dumping wine on him. Why would he decide to gift me so much?

“I don’t know, you probably got lucky.”

“Did he get anything for me?” Iris, that bitch asked her hands fumbling through the shopping bags, as she got closer to the delivery men. Funny how she wanted something from the very man she didn’t want her own daughter to be involved with.

The delivery man’s eyes scanned through the file in his hands.

“It’s for Dr. Miss Montclair.” And then he walked towards me, handing me the pen in his hand. “Please sign here.”

I glanced through the file, only signing it when I realized that it was just a harmless acknowledgement form.

“Oh, the sender left a note.” He muttered before pressing the white envelope in my hands.

Just as they left, Father and Iris began digging through the boxes, and they were filled with different brands of designer clothes, shoes, and bags, but mostly clothes.

A small frown reached my face as I understood the message Theron was sending me. Since my dress on today’s date didn’t fit his standard, he decided to shop for what he would like to see me wear himself.

“Tell me, he is a psychopath again?” he asked with a smile. “You embarrassed him in public, and he showers you with gifts? What kind of psychopath does that?”

Ignoring my father, I climbed up to my room, squeezing the notes in my hands, before I reluctantly opened it, my eyes scanning through it.

“I guess I won’t be so disappointed the next time we meet, and I expect payment for my suit.”

No apologies, no regard for my feelings.

Nothing, except a strong feeling of entitlement.

My phone rang again, and my eyes narrowed when I noticed it was Theron calling me.

“What does that motherfucker want from me?” I muttered under my breath as I answered anyway.

“Did you receive my gifts?” He questioned.

“What exactly do you think I am?” I replied. “Did I ever ask you for such a gift? Are you looking down on me?”

“In my honest opinion, you are a vicious woman who needs to pay for my suit.” He responded. “And there is nothing to look down on, you’re already pathetic.”
