Chapter 109 One Yes

Chapter 109 One Yes
Eden’s Point of View

“Substitute?” I questioned; I wanted to be sure I heard her correctly.

“Yes, had I not run away, it would have been me married to him,” Evangeline repeated, the statement even more bizarre. “So, be thankful to me, because I let you have him.”

“Let me rephrase it properly for you, had you not seduced my fiancé, slept with him, and run away with him. Other factors determine whether or not you would have been married to Theron.” I continued. “Tell me, weren’t you worried he was a psychopath? I remember you said a lot of terrible things about him as well. Plus, you have a very unlikable attitude; it’s no wonder Uriel left you. Because you are dumb and stupid.”

“Father—” I interrupted her sharply.

“You don’t even have any shame. How dare you look me in the eyes, say something so stupid, and then request my help?” Evangeline rolled her eyes as she folded her arms. “You can’t be entitled to my help.”

“Eden, just talk to your husband, so he can hire her to work in the hospital,” Father said, obviously in his daughter’s support; he isn’t even asking her to apologize.

“Why not work in your hospital?” I shot back. “She doesn’t have to be hanging around my neck.”

“Its quite small, she would have more opportunities if she worked with you.” Father continued. “She could grow her portfolio.”

I don’t trust this, I don’t like this, I feel way better working away from any of them, and I definitely don’t want this witch anywhere around me.

“No,” I answered honestly. “I have no reason to agree to help her.”

“Are you worried that your husband might fall for me the same Uriel did?” I glared at her before my gaze darted towards my father. I swear to God, she says one more stupid thing, then I might just slap a tooth out of her mouth.

“You don’t even want to help your sister, this once?” Iris, her mother, finally spoke, glaring at me.

“Yes, I don’t want to help her,” I answered calmly. I didn’t care about their feelings.

“How can you be so ungrateful even after everything your father has done for you?” She shook her head in disapproval, still eyeing me with obvious contempt. “I know you don’t get along with my daughter or me, no matter how hard I try, but at the very least, think about how you would be helping your father.”

“I have no reason to sacrifice my convenience to help a nuisance.” I continued with a sigh, as natural as I could be. “I am not under your control anymore. I don’t have to do anything if I don’t want to.” “Well, we can talk to Theron himself. I am sure he won’t refuse his father-in-law.” Evangeline suggested with a smug look on her face, while the scowl on her father’s face remained unchanging.

I could tell he was livid. If I weren’t in Theron’s house, I was certain he would have smacked me by now.

“You make a mistake thinking Theron would refuse his wife if she tells him not to.” I challenged, for the first time in my life, I was confident about something, and I was certain that Theron wouldn’t accept her the moment I told him not to.

“You think because you married him, you became some big shot?” Iris asked. “Everett, see this? I told you not to let this ungrateful girl marry into the Adler family; now she is showing her true colors.”

“Theron is recovering from his wounds, so he needs to sleep early. The moment you are done eating, please leave without bothering my husband.” I warned them, feeling even more confident than ever. “Thank you.”

After the dinner, they left without speaking about Evangeline to Theron. The conversation was awkward because Father kept asking random things, and the glare from Iris and her godforsaken daughter seemed to cut through the air.

And guess what, I ate just fine… I didn’t let them bother me at all.

“Eden,” Theron called me. His voice was soft and needy as we went into the bedroom, and I felt my heart stop in my chest. Ever since that incident, I have found it difficult to relax around him; my heart seems to lose function. “Do you have problems with your family?”

“Not really.” I shrugged my shoulders. “Why do you ask?”

“They didn’t seem to talk to you, and you hardly joined any of the conversation.” Yes, I knew he would notice that much. “Got me thinking? And during the wedding, you didn’t seem to get along with your sister.”

“We are not very close,” I confessed. “But don’t worry about irrelevant things like that, let’s focus on your health.”

He didn’t seem convinced, but I didn’t want to talk about it, so I decided to change the topic abruptly.

“Have you thought about how you want to use your yeses?” I blurted out, color forming on my cheeks, and my heart pounded in my chest. I have been thinking about it constantly, wondering if I wasn’t going to regret giving him three blank cheques, because I didn’t know what he could want from me.

His face brightened up almost immediately. “I might as well use one of them tonight.” He leaned against the wall, and my eyes sized him up; my heartbeat quickened from curiosity. “The hospital knows I am sick, even though this isn’t that serious, I will be staying home tomorrow.”

Each second he took made me tremble. Out with it already, I blinked back at him.

“Stay home with me until I recover fully.” He said, and I felt my heart freeze once more, that was it? That is how he is using the first, yes?

“I-I can’t do that.” I stuttered, my cheeks getting even hotter. “It’s not like I don’t want to, but it’s work, and I need to do things correctly. I can go tomorrow and make plans for the day after tomorrow.”

“No… The agreement we had was that you can’t refuse whatever I want.” He walked towards me. “Stay home with me tomorrow.”

“I didn’t leave a report, I can’t just leave my shift open like that—it’s irresponsible.” My voice shook because he looked at me like he was about to devour me. “At least I need to make preparations for my replacement.”

“If that is what you are worried about, then let me fix that.” He told me sternly before walking off to the table in the room that he had picked up his phone. “Hey, Bixby, call my father.”

He ordered, and I had never heard or seen him speak to his virtual assistant, and I felt my heart pounding in my chest, wondering why he was calling his father out of the blue.

“Calling Father.” The robotic female voice came from the phone, and he turned his gaze away from me.

“Father, Oh, I am fine, no—” He paused for a while. “The thing is, I need to stay home and rest tomorrow, but my wife has to work, though. Please cancel all her surgeries tomorrow and the day after tomorrow as well.”

My heart was pounding in my chest; he was really doing this.

“You are the director of the hospital; it doesn’t matter if people think you abuse your power.” He continued after a long pause. “Well, if you don’t do it, I can do it—I am the medical director, I can do that much, but do you really want to stress your injured son through all those formalities?”

He paused again, and I just stood there, listening as he blackmailed and threatened his father.

“That’s all, whatever you want.” He paused again. “Thank you, father, you have been most helpful.”

He turned towards me with a victorious smile on his face.

“Done. Now you can stay with me tomorrow and the next.”
