ARIANA
I was fighting him. We were in the back of his car. Monty was driving. Enzo was holding me tightly, against my will. “Enzo! Just please, listen to me once. I swear, I never cheated on you. I never did. Please, listen to me. This is your child in my belly.” I begged him again, forgetting about all the abuse and beating I took within a few hours. All I cared about was the little life inside of me that couldn't speak for itself.
“I don't remember fucking you without a condom. You were on pills. And I don't remember us talking about a family just yet. How in the hell did I get you pregnant?” Enzo growled at me angrily. He was pulling my hair harshly as he questioned me yet again.
The truth was, I couldn't say much. I just knew that I had only been with him. Within a few hours, he forced himself on me. He called me all the dirty names while all I tried to do was stay calm and try to make him believe me. But it hurt me when he believed Charlie, Suzie and Valentina, the three strangers over me, his own wife.
“How can you believe three strangers over me, Enzo? I am your wife. You did everything you could to punish me. I didn't say anything. But abortion is too much. Please, don't kill our baby. I beg you.” I cried, forgetting about the burning sensation on my scalp.
“I only believe my eyes and my ears, Ariana. I don't make mistakes.” He growled at me angrily. The look of disgust in his eyes for me was making me nauseated.
“Enzo, just please, listen to me. If you want, we can have his DNA tested. Then you will believe me. I have only been faithful to you. I never betrayed you. I swear.” I was willing to do anything to make him believe me. I wanted to save the life inside me.
The car stopped in front of a private clinic. My heart almost leapt into my throat. Enzo got out but I refused to step out. Enzo was stubborn. He pulled me out forcefully. I was dragged into the clinic where I knew they were about to murder my child.
Enzo forced me to lay down on the bed, and they tied me up. “Enzo, you don't believe me. It's fine. But you will believe Monty. Ask Monty. I have only been faithful to you.” I was trying to pull my limbs but they tied me up pretty tight so I couldn't move.
He was talking to the doctor. She was a famous gynecologist. Enzo turned to me. Through blurry vision, I saw him staring at me. “He was the one to inform me of your true betrayal. Too bad, you can never get out as easily as Valentina left.” It was all I could hear before I slipped into deep sleep. Or was it paralysis, I couldn't say.
NARRATOR
The doctor came out of the OR after three hours. Which was pretty long for a simple abortion process. They had concerned looks on their faces as they approached Enzo. “What's wrong? Why are you making those faces?” Enzo queried, unable to read the situation.
“We were able to remove the fetus. However, for some reason, she kept on slipping from our hands.” That got Enzo's attention.
“What do you mean?” Enzo asked angrily, a fear gripping his heart.
“It's a standard procedure. We do it after we numb the body. But she was fighting. So much that we had to put her under anesthesia. Then while performing the abortion, your wife was constantly slipping. We almost lost her twice and now, she is in a coma.” Enzo's eyes widened in horror when he heard it.
“What? It was a simple thing to remove that bastard from her Belly. How can you lose her during the simple procedure? You are the best at what you do.” Enzo growled at the doctor. But he wasn't the one carrying a life inside him to know how much it was worth for a woman. He could never understand a mother's pain.
“It could be because she didn't want this abortion. She is in the ICU. We need to keep her under observation for at least forty eight hours.” Without another word, the team left and Enzo fell on the chair.
Monty was still not at the hospital. He left after dropping the couple at the hospital where Enzo had sent his half cousin, Ronny, to set up everything. Ronny followed the doctors, something on his mind. “Where is the fetus?” He asked the doctor.
“It must be in the OR for now. They will examine the fetus then it will be thrown away. Why?” The doctor responded.
“Nothing! I need to make sure that the fetus is taken care of without my cousin caring about it.” Ronny replied and walked away. On the cold table, the fragments of the fetus were lying. The mother couldn't stop crying while she couldn't wake up from the coma.
But no one seemed to care about them both. Everyone was busy with their lives. Enzo would visit her at the hospital after work. But he wouldn't stay longer. After knowing about Ariana's betrayal, her family also left her.
She was like some orphaned loner, who was discarded after being used. She had no one she could look at. She could hear everything happening around her.
