ARIANA
My eyes were burning as I was unable to sleep. All I could think of was hurting Enzo more. Although, I heard the doctor loud and clear that I didn't hurt Enzo in any way. “Ariana! You need to sleep. It's been twenty four hours. Your eyes are red and puffy. Nothing will happen to me. Please, go to sleep.” Enzo scolded me in his usual sleepy voice.
It wasn't like I didn't want to sleep. I wanted to. But I just couldn't fall asleep. Thinking I might end up hurting Enzo. “I tried but I can't sleep. I am worried about hurting you.” I replied lazily.
I could barely see anything. My vision was blurred and my mind felt like it was numb. “That's it! I'm asking the doctor to come and give you something that can relax you.” He growled angrily. Before I could stop him, Enzo had already called the doctor inside our bedroom.
Monty opened the door for the doctor. As they checked up on Enzo, Enzo asked the doctors to give me something that could calm my mind. “Well, looks like, your wife isn't the only one who needs rest. You both need something to help you relax and sleep soundly for a few hours.” I couldn't stop giggling when I heard the doctor scolding Enzo.
Without any hesitation or shame, he slapped my butt in front of the doctor. I could only glare at him. He gave me a shot first then Enzo got the shot of the same medicine. Monty took everyone out. He dimmed the lights in the room and walked away.
“What are you doing?” I asked as Enzo was pulling me toward him. He laid me down on top of his chest. I couldn't say I mind that.
Being with him was one thing I could never regret. “I know you can sleep well when I am holding you in my arms. It's alright, my sweet wife. You can sleep now. I am fine. I am getting better.” He tried his best to comfort me with his words.
I placed my hand on his bandage. “Just get better as soon as possible. I can't take it anymore. I can't see you like this.” I heard him chuckle as I complained to him.
“Of course! I am getting better. I will be back on my feet in no time. Meanwhile, I need my wife by my side. She is the real reason why I am fighting so hard against death. Because I know, she can no longer breathe without me.” My heart skipped a beat as I heard him.
Soon, my eyelids started to get heavier and heavier. I cupped his face with the hand I had placed on top of his wound. And buried my face on the crock of his neck. He smelled like my home. “Close your eyes. Sleep.” He whispered softly in my ear then started humming that lullaby he used to sing me when I was a kid. It's funny how we ended up in the same vet after so many years, but in a romantic way.
