ARIANA
Since I was home alone and I had nothing more to do, I decided to cook for him. It had been a while since we ate together in peace. Once I got everything ready, I went to take a quick shower and changed into sexy lingerie to surprise him. Then I wrapped a gown around, I needed to keep his surprise completely wrapped up until it would be the right time.
I dimmed the lights all around the mansion and lit up the candles to make it more romantic. I was sitting at the dinner table, staring at the clock. It was almost past dinner time. But Enzo hadn't returned. I had started to get worried.
I grabbed my phone from the counter and started dialing Enzo's number. I tried to contact him so many times but he just didn't pick up. By then, I was practically panicking. While changing my clothes as quickly as possible, I dialled Monty's number. “Hello!” I sighed when Monty finally responded.
“Where the fuck is everyone? I have been trying to reach out to all of you, no one picks up. Where is Enzo?” I asked, scolding him at the very beginning because I was pissed at those mafia bastards.
“Nobody informed you, Mrs De Luca?” Monty's sudden question made my heart tremble with fear.
“What's going on? Where is Enzo?” I asked again, panic starting to reach my heart. I started to take deep breaths to keep myself calm in that situation.
“Boss was attacked on his way back home in the evening. We are all at the hospital. I was about to contact you when the boss’ ex told me that she informed you on her way to the hospital. I apologize for not confirming it with you sooner, ma’lady.” When Monty informed me of the attack, my heart nearly stopped.
“Which hospital?” I asked, grabbing my wallet and the keys to my Scooty.
“City Hospital, Mrs De Luca. Should I come and get you? Or perhaps, send someone.” He asked out of concern. That reminded me not to forget the pepper spray, the taser and the gun Enzo had gifted me on my sixteenth birthday. The set was to keep me safe. He even taught me how to use all three in emergency situations.
“No! I am fine. And I am on my way to the hospital.” With that, I hung up, shared my love location with Monty, as briefed by Enzo, and zoomed away toward the hospital.
By the time I got to the hospital, Enzo was out of the surgery. His surgery went well. Although he had lost a lot of blood, thanks to his common blood type, the hospital was able to arrange enough paints for him to save his life.
It was a relief that he was out of danger. Well, that's what I thought. “The next 48 hours are very critical for him. Any stress can cause him to slip into a coma, or worse. It's better if we provide a happy and stress-free environment for him. It's better if his family stays around him only.” I heard the doctor from a distance.
Everyone nodded, so did I. Once the doctor left, Enzo was taken to a private room that Monty had arraigned for Enzo. His body was attached with monitors and so many IVs were attached to his hand. Looking at him in this state, my eyes started to water up. All I wanted was to be by his side when he needed me the most.
Monty left to take care of a few things, especially Enzo's security. I was about to enter the room when Suzie stood in my way. “Why are you here? Didn't you hear what the doctor said? He needs his family.” At that moment, I wanted to slap that spoiled bitch so fucking badly.
She was old enough to open her legs for any man she crossed paths with, but she played dumb when it's my relationship with Enzo. Like seriously, I was his family. “Don't start here, Suzie. I am warning you. Get out of my way.” I warned her, my heart was trembling to be with him. Even for just a few minutes, I wanted to snuggle up with him.
“I said, leave us alone. Why are you here as well, to destroy our family? Don't you have anything better to do? Go find someone else for yourself. Leave my dad alone. We were happy until you came into our lives.” With wide eyes, I glared at the bitch.
Everyone was glaring at me, as if I was a villain. She made me look like a fucking whore, a Mistress who was destroying their family. Just as I was about to open my mouth to defend myself, Enzo's monitor started beeping faster.
My heart sank in the pit of my stomach. Bitches were taking advantage of the serious situation, just to separate Enzo and me. Two doctors and three nurses pushed me out of the way and rushed to Enzo's side. Doctors checked him up while a nurse pushed some medicine through one of the IVs.
“I told you to keep the environment stress-free. And here we are, pushing in heavy medication to his body. He needs to rest up. Stress will harm him. Please, keep it down.” The same doctor was scolding Valentina, as if she was Enzo's wife.
Before I could correct the doctor, Suzie pointed her finger at me. “She is the one creating the problem, not us. Please, kick her out of here. She is the one making my dad stress out.” It was humiliating how I was dragged away from my husband's hospital room because his ex was still too influential in his life.
For the sake of his life and well-being, I even tolerated the humiliation from Suzie and Valentina. I didn't go home. I was in the hospital's lobby, waiting impatiently for Enzo to open his eyes. Whole people around me were continuously judging me.
…
A week passed. I was counting every single second of that week. I was constantly praying for Enzo to wake up. My insides were burning because I had been away from him for way too long. I didn't tell my parents anything. I didn't want to be the cause of absolute stress for Enzo.
I was sitting in the hospital's church. Tears were pouring out as I prayed. I just wanted him back so bad. “You need to eat something, ma’lady. Or you will fall sick as well. You haven't eaten anything since last night.” It was Monty who came inside the church with a pack of sandwiches and a bottle of milk..
“Did he wake up?” I asked, as soon as I turned around.
“Not yet. But he's responding to his medication well. The doctors are very hopeful that he will wake up soon.” Monty informed me.
“Behind his back, I must make sure you are safe and healthy as well. Or the boss will kill me when he wakes up.” Monty added as he placed the food in front of me.
He was right. I needed to stay healthy. Because whenever he would wake up, I wanted to be by his side to take care of him. I opened the sandwich and started eating it.
“You need to learn to push back and hit them hard. Because until you do that, you will never be able to push his ex out of your lives.” Monty spoke up after a few minutes. I blinked at him in confusion. Then I realized, he was talking about Suzie and Valentina.
“They took advantage of the situation. All I want is for him to get better. I don't care who gets to stay in his room.” I replied calmly, though, it wasn't the complete truth. I was dying to taste his minty breaths into my mouth.
“I know! That's the reason why I remained quiet. Otherwise, I would have kicked them both out. I know what boss might have wanted me to do.” He replied in a low tone. I watched him tightened his fists in anger.
I was about to say something to Monty when suddenly, his phone buzzed with a message. His eyes widened as he read the message and there was a wide smile on his face. “Boss woke up just now. Looks like, your prayers were just answered.” Monty informed me.
He helped me up on my feet. “Thank you for taking care of me.” I whispered.
“Of course! You're like a little sister to me. Brothers take care of their sisters.” Monty replied as we stepped out of the church and rushed back to Enzo's room.
The doctors were inside, checking up on him. I watched from outside because two nurses refused to let me inside his room. Of course, in their eyes, I was the slut, destroying a perfect family. The age gap between Enzo and I didn't help my situation either.
I was sobbing quietly as I went back downstairs. Sometimes, some people just couldn't understand how much they are actually hurting us. My case was not so different. Enzo left Valentina when she broke his heart, by cheating on him. And I came into his life way after. “Ma'lady, why are you here? Didn't you go to see Boss?” Monty asked me as he saw me crying in the lobby again.
I quickly wiped my tears and gave him a small smile. “I will wait here until he asks for me. He just woke up. I don't want to hurt him more. Let him know that I am waiting for him right here.” I decided to tell Monty about my situation indirectly. He sighed then nodded his head.
“Just be strong and stay here. I will tell him everything, okay.” Monty spoke, trying to reassure me that everything would be fine once Enzo would be better, and out of danger.
