Chapter 121 Together Forever
Chapter 121 Together Forever
Elizabeth’s POV:
I didn’t eat much, and Aunt let it slide, but she insisted I finish the bowl of fruits she had brought. Halfway through the meal, she received a phone call and stepped out of the bedroom, leaving me alone.
I dropped the bowl and walked over to the clothes I had worn earlier, searching the pockets for my phone. I couldn't find it, and then I remembered I had lost it when those men attacked us. I really wanted to call Bella to find out how she was; there was no way I was going to let Jaxon involve her in this. I had already caused her enough trouble.
I heard the door open and quickly turned to find Talon. He was still a little bruised from earlier.
“Hey.” He ran his fingers through his hair as his gaze ran down my body. Only then did I realize I was wearing Jaxon’s shirt, which was oversized on me but did little to cover my thighs.
I hurried to the bed and slipped under the sheets. “I… I didn’t know you… you were...”
“It’s fine.”
He nodded and pulled something from his pocket. My eyes glimmered when I spotted my phone.
“During our call, I heard you scream out for help, so I contacted the cops. After tracking your line, we found the phone on an isolated road.” He extended the phone to me.
“You should have told Jaxon.” I fidgeted with the sheets. Even I knew he was wrong for going straight to the police when he could have informed Jaxon first.
“You always come to me for help.”
“And if you don’t mind, I will continue coming to you for help in the future—but Jaxon is my husband.”
“Who you should be divorcing in a week.”
Next week was Uncle Jude and Aunt Camille’s wedding anniversary, and according to the agreement I had with Uncle, he was going to make sure Jaxon and I got separated if I wanted to.
If I wanted to. But I don’t.
“Can you not try to make this conversation about you? I am exhausted, Talon,” I said with displeasure. I wasn't in the mood to talk to him about how he thought my feelings for his brother should be.
Talon chuckled lightly. “It’s always been about you, Beth. The one time I try to fight for what’s mine, you turn your back on me.”
“And what exactly are you fighting for, Talon? You have become bitter, and believe me, I am trying so hard to understand why.”
He shook his head and walked closer to the edge of my bed. “Don’t you see the difference between now and four months ago?”
I tried to ponder what was not different, because everything was different. Four months ago, I became an adult and married Jaxon. During these months, I had my first kiss and let the man I love take my virginity. During this period, I tasted death and learned to be bold and fight for myself and what was mine.
An invisible barrier stood between Talon and me; we were not as close as before. During these months, he lost his biggest dream of becoming the CEO of the Sinclair Group, then he got a girlfriend, Tina. He argued with his father and brother constantly.
“Things were never meant to be the same,” I muttered. Time wasn't meant for people to be stagnant; we had to face hurdles and puddles, and right now, I was happy about meeting Jaxon and being his wife. He loved me so much and gave me the kind of love that didn’t come with insecurities or doubt, and I loved him just as much. There was no one else I would wish for.
“You and I were meant to be together forever.”
I felt really uncomfortable with his words about us being together forever. He was my friend and occupied a big part of my heart, but that was it. He was my brother-in-law. I felt like laughing, because I always felt hurt when Jaxon reminded me in the past that Talon was my brother-in-law.
The door pushed open, and Jaxon walked in with his phone glued to his ear. He glanced from Talon to me, and I knew he had a lot to say, especially since he believed I had called Talon for help instead of him. But he was letting me be for now.
“You should get some rest, and don’t worry about Vicky. We will do our best to find her. Right, brother?” He cocked a brow at Jaxon, who walked toward the window to continue his phone call without sparing Talon another glance.
Talon chuckled lightly before he left the bedroom.
“What are you up to?” I asked, because he had been busy ever since we returned, and I wanted to be included in whatever plans he was making concerning the Mitchells.
“Do you think Cruella has any properties in the country?”
I thought for a while. Cruella Mitchell loved luxury, and I knew she always talked about owning spas and lake , I think she has not just one property but more, seeing as she and her brother owned everything my parents had left behind.
“She must have some.” I walked over, finally understanding what Jaxon was up to. If Vicky was hidden somewhere, it had to be in some private property. From the video, she was hung from the top of a building, her hands tied tight. If it had been a community, the neighbors would have noticed, or those occupying the other floors.
So, it had to be a private property where no one lived.
“We can’t find any property under her name. Those we found under Adel, Austin, and Naya are currently being checked by some men…”
“Jaxon, don’t….”
“Don’t worry, they are not cops, and Cruella won’t notice we are checking out those properties.”
I sighed in relief. I was scared that if she felt the slightest threat, she would hurt Vicky more. Cruella Mitchell was crazy; she didn't have all the switches in her brain. She was a maniac, and I should have already known that since I was a kid, back when she plunged my head into the bathtub because I cried about my parents being dead.
“Talon said they found your phone on an isolated street. There are no malls, no restaurants, or buildings that way, so why were you there?”
I didn’t plan to go there; Bella was just driving mindlessly and parked because of some stupid conversation we were having.
