Chapter 118 Give A Statement

Chapter 118 Give A Statement
Elizabeth’s POV:

All I wanted to do was run into Jaxon’s arms. That is what I should have been doing, but seeing the look in his eyes, I knew there was no way he would ever believe I had come here genuinely to make amends.
“Beth.” Uncle walked over to me, scanned my body, and I saw his jaw clench when he noticed the bruises.
“Austin!” He hurried over and pushed Austin, who fell back. I had never seen Uncle Jude put his hands on anyone, but he was beyond furious. He grabbed Austin’s shirt, hauled him up, and hit him hard across the face. Before Adel could get close to help her husband, and before Austin could try to fight back, Uncle Jude pushed him away. All the while, Cruella just stood there staring at Jaxon, my husband.
I walked over to Jaxon. He stayed still, watching me intently, probably trying to study me even though he already knew I had lied to him earlier. “I am sorry,” I muttered as the tears I had been trying to hold back finally rolled down.
“I… I didn’t mean to cause you so much trouble,” I added, my sobs making it difficult to speak. I felt an arm on my shoulder and turned to find Cruella behind me. She smiled.
“He is not mad at you because you came over here without letting him know, right, Jax?”
Jaxon glared at her. “We both know she didn’t come here willingly. And the only reason I don’t have your blood on my hands is because I have my wife standing here staring back at me.”
Cruella’s expression hardened, but she quickly put on her practiced smile. “I always wondered what it was that pulled you to my little niece, but I finally understand that you are an alpha man and need a submissive wife—one as submissive as a puppy.”
Call me whatever you want, Cruella Mitchell. One day, this puppy will grow dangerous canines and bite back. I clenched my fists and returned my gaze to Jaxon.
“What do you need me to do?” he asked, as if he were already aware that the only reason Cruella had me call him was because she wanted me to convince him to do something.
“Beth, the cops are on their way. This whole family will end up in jail.” Uncle Jude walked over, pulling me into his arms, but Jaxon’s gaze remained on me, waiting for me to tell him what I needed.
“Mom, they called the cops!” Naya said in a panicked tone. They all turned their focus to Cruella, who didn’t look scared by the mention of the police.
“Call whoever you want. We both know what is at risk here.”
I burst into tears as the video of Vicky hanging from a building flashed in my mind. She was covered in blood, and the only proof I had that she was still alive was the slow, steady rise and fall of her chest.
“What happened, Beth?” Uncle pulled me tighter into his embrace, and I looked up at him.
I then turned to look at Jaxon, who still hadn’t moved from his spot. “They want you to sign the integration document.”
Jaxon stared at me for a few seconds longer and nodded. He walked over to Austin, who was likely fuming because he didn’t get to hit Uncle Jude back. “Where do I sign?”
“Jaxon!” Uncle Jude called out in disbelief, but Jaxon wasn’t listening to anyone. Austin had a bright smile as he picked up the folder and handed it to Jaxon with a pen, pointing out where to sign.
I watched him sign the documents without even reading them—all for me. I turned to Cruella. “He signed. Let her go,” I said, and Cruella shrugged.
“Let who go?” Uncle questioned.
“Vicky.” Jaxon was the one who answered, causing me to stare at him as if he had grown horns. How did he know?
“Beth’s sister?” Uncle’s eyes widened. He pulled out his phone to dial whoever it was, but I hurried over and pulled his hand down, folding my hands in a plea.
“No, please… don’t call anyone.” Cruella wasn’t stupid. If she thought there was a way for us to save Vicky without going through her, she wouldn’t have made it so obvious that she had her. I feared that even if she were arrested right now, Vicky still wouldn’t be saved.
For now, all we had to do was follow her orders until she felt like returning my sister.
“Look at her, all smart.” Cruella clapped proudly as she walked toward me, but Jaxon stepped over, shielding me.
“I signed the documents. Let Vicky go.”
“As if we don’t know that this document isn’t worth a thing unless it goes through proper legal processes,” Adel replied.
“You said you would let my sister go if he signed!” I yelled, losing my patience. Vicky wasn’t their bargaining chip for integration; when would they stop trying to torture her just for manipulation?
“I also said after he does the press conference.” Cruella folded her arms. Then, we all turned to look at the entrance as the cops walked in with Talon.
“Beth!” Talon hurried over, but Jaxon held my arm, pulling me behind him to shield me from Talon as well.
I saw the hurt on Talon’s face, but right now, I didn’t care much about his feelings.
“We got news that Elizabeth Mitchell…”
“Elizabeth Sinclair,” Jaxon and Uncle Jude corrected the officer at the same time. He nodded before continuing.
“We got a complaint that she was in danger, so we need a statement.”
Not only the officer but everyone in the room was staring at me, waiting for me to tell them what was going on. Before I could say anything, Jaxon did.
“My wife is still recovering from an accident she had a few days ago and isn’t in any state to give a statement about what is going on right now. But rest assured… next week, I will personally bring her to the station to give a statement.” He explained and I glanced up at his face.
What did he mean by that? I had to let the officers know that nothing was wrong right now.
The officer looked around. He paced the living room, analyzing every angle, and I saw him stare at the spot where Bella’s blood had dropped.
“Do you need us to take you home, Mrs. Sinclair?” The officer walked back to stand before Jaxon, not saying a word about the blood.
I turned and glanced at Cruella, who was looking a little pale. She had been all talk about me being on the losing end, but meanwhile, she was scared of me blurting out everything to the cops. I couldn’t bargain with Vicky’s safety, though.
“Jax will take me home,” I replied in a low tone. Thankfully, he heard me clearly and looked around one more time before signaling his men to step out.
“Next time you barge into my home, make sure you have a warrant,” Austin said through gritted teeth. The officer, who looked to be in his forties, smiled.
“Of course.” He nudged his chin toward the blood on the ground. When Austin noticed there was blood on his floor, he didn’t utter another word, knowing that saying anything would only make the officer decide to stay and get to the root of things.
“We are expecting you at the station next week, Mrs. Sinclair.”
I nodded, and they all left. When they were finally gone, Jaxon held my hand. “Let’s leave.”
“Wait there.” Cruella called out and walked over, blocking our path. “What do you mean by she would give a statement next week?”
“Is your English so bad that you can’t comprehend the word?”
Cruella laughed. “I am no fool, Jaxon. If she doesn’t give a statement to the cops this week, clearing my name and my family’s name, then be ready to pick up Vicky’s body, because her father will receive her head.”
