Chapter 256

Chapter 256
Scarlett’s POV
I took a deep breath. "Allison, if you're trying to threaten me, you should consider your current position."
I looked at her, deliberately slowing my speech.
"Wasn't last night enough to prove the difference between us? Even though I'm carrying someone else's child, Marvin has never said he doesn't want me."
My words struck her where it hurt most.
Allison's face instantly contorted, anger and jealousy churning in her eyes.
"Bitch! Bitch!" She stomped her foot like a child denied candy.
"What are you so smug about? So what if Marvin likes you? He'll never marry you!"
I couldn't help but laugh softly. "As if he would marry you."
I saw a murderous glint flash in her eyes, as if she were ready to pounce and tear me apart.
But I knew she wouldn't dare.
"Scarlett, you are just—"
"Think carefully about whether you're willing to take me to Yvette," I interrupted, not wanting to waste time arguing with her.
"If you don't want Marvin to know, you'd better put aside any inappropriate thoughts."
"What do you mean?" She narrowed her eyes.
I curved my lips upward, slowly explaining to her.
"My meaning is very clear. If I find Yvette and confirm she's safe and sound, I'll voluntarily leave Obsidian Palace, leave Marvin."
I paused. "But if you kill me, Marvin will suspect you first. Don't you think?"
I raised my eyebrows slightly, watching the expressions shift across her face.
I knew I had gambled correctly.
Allison understood Marvin's personality. If something happened to me under her arrangements, Marvin would unhesitatingly suspect her.
No matter how much she hated me, she wouldn't take that risk.
"Fine," she said through gritted teeth. "I'll take you to find Yvette, but you must promise that once you see her, you two will stay as far away from Marvin and me as possible! Don't appear before us again!"
This was exactly what I wanted.
To leave Obsidian Palace, to escape this dangerous place, to regain freedom with Yvette.
Except... Alexander.
"Deal!" I said crisply.
By evening, Allison had given me Yvette's address. Her expression carried a certain subtle satisfaction that made me even more vigilant.
"To be honest, Yvette isn't in my custody right now,"
she said, looking at me. "My people tracked her to this location. Whether you can find her depends entirely on your own abilities."
I looked at the address on my phone, my unease growing.
If Yvette wasn't in her control, how reliable was this address?
If only Alexander were here.
The thought came unbidden.
I knew Alexander had his own influence in Colombia; finding Yvette wouldn't be difficult for him.
"If you don't believe me, you don't have to go,"
Allison seemed to see through my doubts and snorted coldly. "Perhaps missing this chance means you'll never see Yvette again."
With those words, I dared not delay any longer.
"Tonight," I took a deep breath, making my decision. "Help me divert Marvin's attention."
The night deepened, with Silverlight City's lights twinkling like stars outside the window.
I waited quietly until I was sure Marvin had been successfully distracted by Allison.
Finally, it's time.
I slipped out of my room, following my pre-planned route to the hotel's back door.
A black sedan was already waiting there.
I quickly walked to the car, opened the door, and got in.
The interior was pitch black. I hadn't even had time to state the address.
At that moment, a hand suddenly reached from the back seat and firmly covered my mouth.
I barely had time to react before I started struggling.
My raised elbow struck the person's chest directly, accompanied by a groan that made me instantly realize something was amiss.
It was him!
Realizing this, I pulled down the hand and turned to find myself looking into Alexander's eyes—three parts playful, seven parts tender.
I was stunned, not expecting to encounter him here.
Just a moment ago, I had been thinking that if Alexander were in the area, perhaps he could help me find Yvette. But remembering he was about to get married, I still felt somewhat uncomfortable.
"So reluctant to see me?"
He reached out to caress my cheek, his touch warm and familiar.
"If we don't leave now, Marvin will come looking for you soon."
"Let's go," I immediately ordered the driver.
I glanced secretly at Alexander. He seemed amused by my nervousness.
Then his gaze casually fell on my flat abdomen, his expression deepening.
I knew what he was thinking about—the child whose fate we had yet to decide.
I shifted my gaze out the window.
The hope of finding Yvette was slim, but I believed Allison wouldn't dare deceive me on this matter.
Especially with Marvin's support behind me.
I hope I can find you, sister... I prayed silently.
The car drove to a secluded roadside in the suburbs, where Alexander signaled the driver to stop.
I noticed several men already standing by the road—clearly Alexander's subordinates.
I followed Alexander out of the car. The evening breeze brushed my cheeks, bringing a touch of coolness. After getting out, he didn't rush to the next vehicle but leaned against a roadside barrier, admiring the night scenery.
Standing beside him, looking at his profile, I couldn't help wondering: if the child in my womb were born, whose features would it inherit?
They say sons resemble their mothers, and daughters their fathers.
I didn't know if the baby in my belly was a boy or a girl. If it were a daughter, with Alexander being so handsome, she would probably be beautiful too.
Unfortunately... this child wouldn't stay in my womb for long.
