Chapter 30
Jasper's POV
It was late in the middle of the night, but I haven't been able to get any rest. The scene of Anabel being killed because of me kept repeating in my head, and I blamed myself for all of it.
I should have stayed and carried my cross alone, I never should have involved her. I was selfish and that cost her her life. But I'll make sure this doesn't happen with Anita, I'll protect and love her until the last drop of blood in me.
“I need to make her love me more, redefine this relationship and make it work.” I thought as I tossed to the other side of the bed.
Anita! I wonder if Kaye had found out she helped me. If he had pronounced a death sentence on her too, and I would be too late to safe her, just like I was too late to save Anabel.
“I need to go back for Anita, first thing in the morning.” I concluded and tried to get some sleep.
The next morning, I woke up quite late; the sun was high up in the sky and the streets were busy with their daily activities.
“Shit!” I cussed as I rolled over the bedsheets over my body and sprang out of bed.
I dashed into the bathroom, had a cold bit quick bath and rushed back into the room. Went straight to my closet, brought out a mini travel bag and packed a few clothes. I got dressed, combed my hair in a simple style and stepped out of the room.
The initial plan was to sneak out of the house without anyone noticing, but I was caught by Holm.
“Where are you going, sneaking around like a rat?”
He asked as he leaned against the door to his room and a smoke in his mouth.
Slowly, I turned around, and his eyes fell on this travel bag; this got him furious.
“You're leaving? This time, sneaking out on me?” His face went red with anger, he took the cigarette from his mouth and approached me.
“I'm sorry, but I have to make sure Anita is safe.”
“Safe?” He scoffed and ran his hand through his hair. “Like you were able to save Anabel? Like you were capable of saving Mrs. Jones or whatever is she called? Answer me!”
“I know how you feel, but I can't just leave her there. Don't you know what happened to Anabel? I can't stand that happening to Anita. I would rather die than see a strand of her hair get hurt.” I swore.
“Really? So, what was all the stress we did for? If you die now, how would you want Anabel to feel? Think, dude. Think!”
“I've thought about it and this is my decision, I have to be on my way now. I would rather not be too late for Anita.”
“If anything goes wrong this time, you're on your own.” He snapped and retired back into his room.
Anita's POV.
I woke up very early the next morning, took my bath and wore a floral dress that Jasper had bought for me. I grabbed the travel bag I packed the previous day and exited the rest. As I stepped out of the room and was about to take the first step down the stairs, my eyes fell on Alpha Kaye's room and a soft sigh escaped from my lip.
I shrugged off the bad feeling that suddenly came over me and walked down the stairs. One of the maids helped me carry the bag to the car, I got in, ignited the car and drove off.
After some hours of driving and humming along the songs played on the radio, I got to the human world. This is somewhere I'm very familiar with, even more than my pack. So, it would jot be that hard for me to find Jasper.
While humming along with the song and took a little sniff of the air, I picked a familiar scent; Jasper's scent. I quickly pulled over and connected to him through mind link.
“Hey, babe. Is that you, Jasper?”
“Anita?”
“Yes.” I nodded my head slightly as a tear rolled down my cheek.
“What are you doing here?”
“Was I supposed to be at peace since you left?” I questioned back.
“Let's meet and talk. Where exactly are you now?”
I was about to give him a response when my eyes fell on the middle mirror and I saw someone familiar; I don't quite know him, but I can tell he is from the Pack.
“Babe?”
“Yes? What do you say?”
“I don't think it's a good idea to see you now, we'll have to talk some other time.”
“Why? I was even on my way to see you.”
“See me? In the Pack? Have you lost it?” I snapped, furiously, thinking he would allow all my efforts to go in vain.
“I'm sorry, Anita, but I couldn't help it. I didn't want what happened to Anabel to happen to you.”
“Well, I'm not Anabel. And I think I'm being followed from the Pack. We'll find a strategy to talk, I'll be in a hotel nearby.”
“No problem then. You can contact Holm when you want to talk to me.”
“Sure, babe. I love you.” I said and ended the call.
Not only that, but I looked in the mirror and the man was still there, I ignited the car and drove off.
While driving, I kept on checking the mirror, but I couldn't find the man anywhere near me.
“Maybe I was overthinking.” I thought and concentrated more in driving.
After a few more minutes of driving, I hit to a hotel, stepped out of the car and grabbed my bag. I walked into the hotel and was booking a room when I noticed something strange.
“May I have a standard room for a week, please?” I asked and handed the lady my card, but a man stopped her.
“There would be no need for that, damsel. I'll pay for it.” He smiled.
