Chapter 68: Reminiscing
Kia's POV.
Three years, four women later, and zero heir. My life had pretty much become a mess in a short period of time and I had very much lost most of the respect accorded to me. Even the elders were pretty much tired of me. I knew what the problem was. It was not that I was medically unfit. It was that for some reason I had become sexually bound to Alexia. I think it is some sort of punishment. A curse more accurately for offending and maltreating a pure heart. And to be truthful, j deserved all of it. Each and every punishment.
My home had been a chalet where females were sent to come to try their luck with me. As funny as it might sound, it's the most traumatizing agonizing incident of my life.
I dressed up and looked myself in the mirror, the man staring back at me a shadow of his former self.
Sighing I put up a mental note to never look at the mirror again, or better still, have it taken out permanently, after all not like I used it for makeup and stuff like that. I came downstairs dispassionately, no longer wanting to follow up with my daily routines, routines that I had become accustomed to. Routines that only reminded me of how much of a jerk and sore loser I was.
"Oh sir, you are downstairs already. I was just about letting you know that breakfast has been served"
Hatti, one of the very new servants, ran out to inform me.
"I do not have appetite for breakfast" I replied, expressionless.
"But, sir this is the eleventh time in a row--"
"Will you shut it? Since when did you have the right to keep tabs on my diet routine" I thundered, causing her to scurry away in fear.
Instantly regretting my choice of words, I wanted to subtly apologize but before I could I heard footsteps approach from the staircase.
"Hatti, is this the banana bread I had requested you make for my breakfast?" She yelled at the top of her voice. Her voice carried a hint of irritation.
Who was she? She was Hazel, the fourth and most recent female brought to my place. She and Amber were very alike, aloof, materialistic, demeaning, and cold-hearted, but they had one difference, Hazel was never afraid to show it all, all her nastiness.
"Why are you still standing there not baking me another load of bread?!" She thundered, causing the already trembling Haati to walk in shivers. Poor girl, I thought to myself, momentarily forgetting that I was no better than Hazel.
"I am sorry ma'am." She managed to
"Sorry for your poverty-stricken self. I feel poor by just having you in the same room with me." She tsked at the end of her sentence and I wondered if she was not sold off by her dad to clear off a debt barely three months ago. Suddenly she feels stuffy when in a room with poor people.
The hypocrisy!
Noticing my presence for the first time since she had been dishing out orders, "Ohh Kia darling, you are up already? I was not expecting you to be down by now? Have you had breakfast yet?", She asked, ever so delightfully, running a hand down my back.
"I have been downstairs for quite a while now... And no I have not had breakfast yet" I said, my skin crawling from the fact that she had her disgusting hands on me.
"And why is that... Haat-"
I cut her off before she was able to complete her sentence, " I had chosen not to have breakfast" I paused, contemplating whether my next sentence would bring the drama I very much avoided.
"Hazel" I called her. "I would appreciate it if you stopped addressing Haati like she was some piece of rag," I said, my tone calmer than I expected.
"For what reason? Is she not a lowly, filthy,. peasant maid. Or don't tell me you are sleeping with her now? Oh, I forgot, you don't even get erections" she said howling with laughter, flashing me a victory smile. She sashayed towards the kitchen to continue with her over-demanding ways.
I was just about to leave, to back upstairs where I had grown to feel most safe when I heard the sound of her heels again. Who the actual fuck wears heels in the morning?
Masking my irritation, I decided to go upstairs anyway, it was not healthy for me to trigger myself all over when she called me.
"Uhh, Kia, I will be going shopping later on today," she said simply like she did not just insult me a few minutes ago. What did she say tho, shopping? Ahh, of course, vain woman.
"Oh" was all I could bring myself to say.
"Come on, is that all you are going to say? She said walking over to where I stood. Standing only a few inches from me, her shoulders fell like she had given up on something. "Look here, I know that you do not in any way fancy me, it is fine. But you could at least pretend to the general public that we are quite happy and you are not as miserable as the rumours say" There it goes again, another backhanded insult. On a normal day, I would have just ignored but maybe she was right. Maybe just maybe, I was contributing to the spreading of rumors about me.
"Alright, what store do you have in mind?" I asked almost helplessly.
"Yipeeeee" she squealed, "it is a new store, like Zara and Fendi, but it is a new extension, I think it is called the TRACIAN store, yeah that is the name. The designer is a genius... I had stopped listening to whatever Hazel was saying as I pondered on the name she had just mentioned, ALEXIAN, the name reminded me of Alexia, was there a possibility that she owned the newly opened fashion design company? Nah it is quite not possible. It is not possible, I was knife-thinking things.
"Kia? Can you hear me?" Hazel's screeching voice brought me back from my thoughts.
"Yes Hazel I can hear you, now quit screaming my name" I retorted.
"Were you even listening to the things I was saying?"
"Quite frankly, I was not", I admitted, "So where were we?"
"Ughhh, okay I was saying something about the designer, here", she said handing me her tablet, "this right here is the designer's first-ever design" she said pointing to a dress that seemed all too familiar to me, once again, my thoughts drifted from her words to where I had seen that dress before.
