Chapter 54 Luna Lockhart
“So… you must be my secretary?” Deborah asked, standing behind her polished mahogany desk, eyes scanning the young woman who had just stepped into the office. She tilted her head slightly, a mixture of curiosity and mild skepticism in her gaze.
The girl in question smiled warmly, almost shyly, and took a small step forward. “Yes, Ms. Valmere. I’m Luna Lockhart. It’s truly an honor to work with you.”
Deborah studied her carefully. Luna was petite but carried herself with an effortless grace, her soft brown eyes bright with intelligence and sincerity. Her dark hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, a few loose strands framing her gentle face. She wore a pale cream blouse tucked into a tailored navy skirt, simple yet elegant, radiating quiet professionalism without trying too hard.
“You… seem sweet,” Deborah remarked after a pause, tilting her head with an inquisitive look. “Are you always this polite, or is it just because you’re meeting me for the first time?”
Luna laughed softly, a sound like a gentle breeze. “I try to be kind and professional at the same time, Ms. Valmere. I know working with you is a privilege, and I want to make sure I respect that.”
Deborah’s lips curved into a faint, approving smile. “I see. Well, being polite is one thing. But this job requires more than charm. Can you handle pressure?”
Luna’s expression remained calm, her smile unwavering. “I believe I can. I’ve worked with high-level executives before, handled tight schedules, and coordinated multiple projects at once. I like to stay organized and make sure everything runs smoothly for the person I assist.”
Deborah raised an eyebrow. “And you think you can manage me?”
Luna’s gaze didn’t waver. “I understand, Ms. Valmere. You have high standards, and I don’t intend to lower them. My role is to support you, anticipate your needs, and help you focus on the big decisions while I handle the details.”
Deborah leaned back slightly in her chair, folding her arms. “Anticipate my needs? That’s a bold promise.”
Luna nodded politely. “Perhaps, but I take my responsibilities seriously. I’ve already reviewed your schedule, your meetings for the week, and your priority projects. I even prepared preliminary notes for the contracts you’ll review later today. My goal is to make your life easier, not harder.”
Deborah paused, impressed despite herself. She had expected someone competent, yes, but Luna had a sweetness about her that made her feel instantly at ease, a rarity in her world of high-stakes business and relentless pressure.
“You really did your homework,” Deborah said softly, leaning forward on the edge of her desk. “That’s… unusual for someone meeting me for the first time.”
Luna smiled, a blush faintly coloring her cheeks. “I like to be prepared. I respect your time, Ms. Valmere. I know every minute counts for you.”
Deborah let out a small hum of approval. “Alright, Luna. Let’s see how this works. I have a pile of contracts to review, emails to reply to, and at least three meetings today. Can you handle all that without losing your composure?”
“I can,” Luna said confidently. “And I promise, Ms. Valmere, you won’t have to worry about the small things. I’ll take care of the details, so you can focus on what truly matters.”
Deborah tilted her head, studying her. She noted the way Luna’s hands were neatly folded, the calm steadiness of her voice, and the gentle intelligence in her eyes. “You’re… very composed. I like that. I can already tell you’re not the type to panic over a missed call or a last-minute crisis.”
Luna’s smile widened slightly. “I’ve learned that calmness in small moments prevents chaos in the big ones. I want to make sure your day runs as smoothly as possible.”
Deborah leaned back in her chair, finally letting herself relax just a little. “You know, Luna… I might just enjoy working with someone like you.”
Luna’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, Ms. Valmere. That means a lot.”
Deborah gestured toward the stack of files on her desk. “Alright, let’s start with these. I want summaries, priorities flagged, and all urgent matters ready for discussion within the next hour.”
Luna moved gracefully to the desk, setting down her notebook and tablet. “Consider it done, Ms. Valmere. I’ll handle it all efficiently and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.”
As she began sorting the files, Deborah watched her, a quiet admiration growing. There was something reassuring about Luna’s presence, the perfect combination of sweetness, competence, and calm determination. For the first time in a long while, Deborah felt like she might actually have a partner she could trust completely in the whirlwind of the Valmere Company.
“And Luna,” Deborah said, softening her tone, “I don’t tolerate incompetence or sloppiness. But I think… I think you’re going to fit in just fine.”
“I won’t disappoint you, Ms. Valmere,” Luna replied with quiet confidence, already arranging the contracts and highlighting urgent matters. “I promise.”
Deborah leaned back, allowing herself a rare smile.
And as Luna continued her meticulous work beside her, Deborah realized that maybe having a secretary wasn’t just about efficiency it was about trust.
For the first time in a long time, Deborah felt a little lighter. Then suddenly.... her phone vibrate.
\[I miss you, baby. Can we meet tonight?\]
