"Thank you, Miss Chloe, for remembering a little person like me. It seems you have quite a bit of leisure, taking an interest in my love life. Are you afraid that I might pose a threat to you?"
Chloe was taken aback, her face looking a bit uncomfortable, but she quickly regained her composure. She couldn't afford to lose her temper.
"I'm just asking because you are Oliver's adopted niece, and as your future aunt, I naturally want to show concern. If you can't find a suitable match soon, I'll have to help Oliver screen candidates for you. How about this, I introduce you to someone from our circle. I can't promise everything, but at least I can guarantee you'll be well-off for life."
Introducing her to someone? It seemed she was genuinely afraid that Amelia might be a threat.
"Miss Chloe, have you hit a career plateau? Why the sudden transition into matchmaker? Is Uncle aware of this?"
The two spoke past each other, with Amelia evading the question and instead causing Chloe more frustration.
"I have a friend from a well-off family, the Moore family's young master. He's quite handsome, and the Moores dote on him. If you're interested, I can introduce you two."
Chloe was determined to marry Amelia off, even if Amelia was provoking her. She tried to maintain her dignity.
The Moore family's young master? At the mention of him, Amelia let out a cold smile. Chloe's petty schemes were impossible to hide.
Everyone knew that the Moore family's young master was simple-minded. He might appear presentable, but his mental capacity was that of a child. Marrying him would be akin to becoming a caretaker.
Amelia had no intention of falling for such a trick.
Before Amelia could respond, Oliver appeared on the stairs, spotting Chloe, the unwelcome guest. He also noticed Amelia, who seemed calm while talking with her. As he approached, he overheard Chloe volunteering to set Amelia up.
Oliver's expression darkened immediately. Chloe, still hoping to impress him, had gone to a hair salon specifically to look her best for this visit.
However, Oliver didn't even glance at her and ushered her out.
Turning around, he saw Amelia nonchalantly speaking, intentionally provoking him:
"Then I shouldn't waste Miss Chloe's kind intentions. You can introduce me to the Moore family's young master, since you've muddied my relationship with Lucas."
Oliver, the irritable lion, was easily triggered when it came to Amelia. He leaned down now, ready to make Amelia pay for her words.
But Amelia, seeing his burning desire, wore a triumphant smile and said with satisfaction:
"I'm on my period."
Oliver was already worked up, and Amelia's words doused him like a bucket of cold water.
"Damn it!"
Oliver cursed under his breath.
Just then, Lucas called. A flicker of panic crossed Amelia's face, and Oliver pinched her chin, threatening her to put the call on speaker.
"Amelia, how are you? Has my uncle done anything to you? Don't worry, for you, for our relationship, I'm willing to be enemies with Oliver."
Lucas anxiously asked on the other end of the line, but instead, Oliver's voice responded:
"Be enemies with me? Overestimating yourself."
With that, he hung up the call, ignoring Amelia's struggles, and confiscated her phone.
"Phone confiscated. You've been naughty."
"No, I need to contact my grandmother!"
Without her phone and imprisoned by Oliver, Amelia worried about her grandmother, which was her bottom line.
Oliver wasn't heartless. He understood the importance of Amelia's grandmother and conceded:
"As long as you behave, I'll allow you to speak with your grandmother."
Amelia had no choice. Despite her reluctance, she had to swallow her pride and agree to Oliver's terms.
At the moment, she could only comply with Oliver, not provoke him. If this madman was angered, Amelia dared not imagine the consequences.
In this way, Amelia lay on the large bed, contemplating her escape.
This room used to be Amelia's, and during the six years she disappeared, Chloe had suggested many times to turn it into a guest room or storage room, but was never successful.
Perhaps returning to a familiar environment, Amelia fell into a deep sleep. Despite Oliver's rough treatment, he never stinted on her daily needs.
The next day, no one woke Amelia. She opened her eyes and instinctively felt for her phone on the bedside table, but found nothing, remembering her phone had been confiscated.
She got up, uninterested in watching the sunrise, with everything in the garden thriving and growing upwards. She only wanted to escape this cage.
Looking downstairs, she didn't find Oliver, which was undoubtedly great news.
Upon closer inspection, the villa's servants were all busy in the backyard, and the front hall servants were all at their posts. It was the perfect opportunity for her to escape!
Upon reaching the door, the sneaky Amelia was spotted and stopped by a servant.
"Miss Amelia, the young master said you cannot leave."
Amelia wanted to plead, facing the servant's imploring gaze. Living under Oliver was indeed tough.
Amelia had no choice but to huff back to her room.
After thinking it over and finding no solution, Amelia felt overwhelmed.
Oliver returned to the villa after handling his company's affairs and saw Amelia, who was frowning, curled up on the sofa.
Seeing him, Amelia ran to him and confronted him:
"I'm not a criminal. You're illegally imprisoning me! This is illegal!"
Oliver calmly watched Amelia's hysteria, then after a while, he spoke:
"Finished? Once you're done, I'll take you to a place."
It was as if Amelia was accusing someone else, not him.
Feeling like her punches were landing on cotton, Amelia lost her strength and could only let Oliver take her to his secret base—the seaside cliff.
Oliver, expressionless, said:
"If you don't listen in the future, I'll throw you into the sea to feed the fish. This place has a good view; you can be reborn into a better life next time. Moreover, this place has a broad view and is a great spot for a picnic. We can give it a try."
Amelia was somewhat speechless. Oliver's thick skin was really something; she was too lazy to argue with him and changed the subject.
"I'm hungry; I haven't eaten yet."
With one sentence, she had Oliver in the palm of her hand, and they moved to the restaurant. While Oliver was away, Amelia met her client.
And the client's son, a little devil, ill-mannered and domineering.
The child was still pushing his luck, speaking rudely to Amelia, mocking her for not knowing her place and dreaming of rising above her station.
His mother indulged him, and Amelia suddenly thought of something fun. This woman was also one of Oliver's friends.
So, the sharp-tongued Amelia deliberately pretended to be mute and didn't explain when she was at a disadvantage.
When Oliver returned, he saw Amelia being bullied by a child.
Oliver couldn't stand his things being bullied by others, coldly reprimanded the child for his rudeness, and told the woman to apologize to Amelia with her child.
The woman didn't expect that the big shot Amelia was with was Oliver, and she considered herself unlucky. After apologizing, she left with her child, tail between her legs.
