Chapter 101
Tanakorn’s POV
“Warut! Let go!” I said angrily, my heart beating fast.
Immediately we were in a place where students couldn’t reach, he finally let go of my arm. I didn’t think twice. I slapped him hard across the face. The sound echoed in the quiet corner.
“How dare you!” I shouted, my voice shaking with anger. “How dare you drag me here like that!”
Warut held his cheek, his eyes wide with shock. He looked down, breathing heavily. “I’m sorry… I’m really sorry for dragging you. I didn’t know how else to talk to you. Please forgive my rude behavior.”
I crossed my arms, still breathing fast. “What do you want now? After hurting me at the party, you started keeping distance. You even left the assignment group because you were guilty. How could you be so evil to me? We were close friends. Our families are close. What do you think will happen when my dad finds out that you drugged me and raped me?”
Warut’s face turned pale. He shook his head quickly, his eyes filling with panic. “It wasn’t me. I will never do that to you. I know you are aware of my feelings for you. I love you so much, and I can’t hurt you.”
I felt my blood boil. “You are lying, you bastard.”
Warut stepped closer but not too close, his hands raised like he was surrendering. “I was set up by someone. I will never do that to you. If I really wanted you, why didn’t I force you all those times we were alone?”
I stayed quiet. His words made some sense. I calmed down a little, but I was still angry. “Then explain why you attended my team party secretly…..why you started keeping distance. Why were you running from me and wouldn’t talk to me even if you were not guilty?”
Warut went completely silent. He looked down at the ground, his shoulders dropping. His face showed pain and fear. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. The silence stretched between us, heavy and uncomfortable. I could see his hands shaking. He looked like he wanted to say something important but was too scared to speak.
I waited, my heart pounding. The quiet felt louder than any shout. Warut’s eyes were wet, but he still didn’t say anything. He just stood there, looking broken.
The wind blew gently around us. I crossed my arms tighter, waiting for him to explain. But the longer the silence lasted, the more suspicious I became. Why couldn’t he answer a simple question? What was he hiding?
I took a step back, my voice cold. “If you have nothing to say, then stay away from me. I don’t want to see you again.”
Warut finally looked up. His eyes were full of regret and something I couldn’t read. But he still said nothing.
I turned around to walk away, my chest tight with anger and confusion. Before I could take two steps, He suddenly grabbed my wrist. His grip was firm but not painful. I stopped and looked back at him, my heart pounding hard.
“Are you ready to talk now?” I asked coldly, trying to pull my arm free. He didn’t let go immediately.
His eyes were full of regret. He looked down for a moment, breathing heavily, then spoke with a shaky voice. “I’m sorry, Tanakorn. I did a lot of bad things in the past that I can’t say out loud now. But someone found out about it and used it to threaten me.”
I stayed quiet, waiting for his explanation. He continued, his voice getting lower, almost whispering.
“I came to that party because I was told to meet someone who would give me something, but I can’t tell you the details. I had no idea it was your team’s party. I just followed the instruction and was told to not avoid being recognized by anyone. After that night, I got a text saying not to ever come close to you again. If I did, it would be used against me, and my family name would be dragged in the mud. So I had no choice. It hurts so much, but I had to save myself and my family. I failed you… but now I want to be close with you again. Believe me. I will clear my name and prove my innocence to you so you know I never hurt you.”
I stared at him, my heart beating fast. His eyes looked sincere, but doubt still filled my mind. The silence stretched between us. I could hear my own breathing. Warut looked desperate, like he was carrying a heavy weight.
“Someone set me up, Tanakorn.”
“And who do you think set you up?” I asked, but my voice was so low.
Warut hesitated, then said quietly, “I suspected Krittanai. There was something off about him. So I started researching about him in secret, and there is a rumor he killed his mother.”
I laughed out loud. I can’t believe Warut has lost his senses. “You think faking a story like that will make me believe you? Krit’s mom is alive.”
Warut looked desperate. “Think about it, Tanakorn. Things were okay before he came. What if he is targeting you?”
I slapped him hard across the face. The sound was sharp. “I will make sure I expose you once I get my evidence.
“Krit will never hurt me,” I said firmly, my voice shaking a little.
Warut looked at me with pity in his eyes. “He has blinded you. Don’t tell me you are dating him in secret.”
Fear gripped me hard. If Warut knew the truth and spread it, my dad would find out. My whole life, my future, everything would be ruined. I quickly shook my head.
“He is just a friend,” I lied, my voice coming out too fast. “Nothing more.”
Warut stared at me for a long moment, like he didn’t believe me. His eyes were full of worry and something else I couldn’t read. The silence between us felt heavy. I could hear my own heartbeat loudly in my ears.
“Why did I face that threat when I was digging about him?” Warut asked, his voice low. “That guy is mysterious. Someone you don’t need in your life.”
I felt my chest tighten with anger. “I have no idea you would become this way, talking about him so you can be free from it. You hurt me, Warut.”
He stepped closer, eyes desperate. “I am trying to protect you.”
I pushed his hand away. “I don’t need it. You are just trying to protect yourself.”
The silence stretched again. I turned and walked away, my heart pounding. Three more days until exams are over.
Warut’s words kept bothering me every single day. During training, in class, even when I tried to sleep, they kept repeating in my head. Krit noticed. He kept asking me what was worrying me, his eyes full of concern. I always smiled and said nothing, but I could see he didn’t believe me.
That night, I couldn’t take it anymore. I woke Krit up gently, shaking his shoulder. He sat up quickly, rubbing his eyes, looking worried as he moved closer to me on the bed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked softly, his voice still sleepy but full of care.
I took a deep breath. My hands were shaking. “Don’t lie to me. I need the truth.”
Krit’s face became serious. “What truth?”
I looked him straight in the eyes, my heart aching. “Is that lady really your mother? Is it true you killed your mom?”
Krit’s expression changed instantly. His voice became darker, colder. “Where did you hear that from?”
I felt scared for a second. Tears stung my eyes. “I’m sorry… this sounds foolish. I should never have trusted Warut.”
Krit’s eyes widened. “Warut? You met with him? Is that why you treated me like this these past days?”
He looked hurt and angry at the same time. His jaw tightened, and I could see the pain in his eyes. Before I could say anything, he continued, his voice rough.
“I was about to wait for morning to tell you… I found the address of the waiter who quit. The one who drugged you that night. I’ve been looking for him for weeks. I secretly was helping to find out more about the one who raped you because I promised you..”
I felt my chest tighten. Guilt washed over me. I quickly hugged him tightly, but he hit my hands off. This was the first time Krit refused me. I messed up.
“You hurt me, Tan. I guess since you trust Warut, then investigate with him.”
“I’m sorry. I should never have doubted you.” I hugged him from behind.
