"Why do you treat Father the same way you treat me?" Alina stood at the door, looking at Cassidy with a face full of surprise.
Cassidy had the bodyguards step aside and faced the three of them directly. "Do you know what we were just talking about?"
She looked at Aubree. "Alina doesn't know, but you should be very clear, right? Otherwise, why are you being so attentive to me today?"
Aubree's purpose was exposed, and her face showed some embarrassment.
Alina rolled her eyes. "Isn't it just asking you for some money? Can't you even come up with that little bit of money? When did the Cooper family become so poor?"
Hearing Alina defending him, Gabeiel immediately felt justified and thought he had done nothing wrong. "Cassidy, your sister is right, this amount of money is not much for you, but it can help us get through a difficult time!"
Cassidy was amused by their bandit logic.
Just because she had it, she had to give it?
"You're not asking me for fifty dollars, but fifty million dollars!" She looked at the three of them standing together, as if they were the real family, and she was just a villain coming to disrupt their family harmony.
"I care about you as my family, so I agreed every time you asked me for money before. Is it because I was too obedient, that you think it's only natural for me to give you money, and that I would never refuse?" She stared at their faces, trying to see any guilt, but she saw none.
Gabeiel and Alina took her contributions for granted, and Aubree was just embarrassed that her purpose was directly exposed by Cassidy.
"Cassidy, since you have the ability, you should contribute to the family! Father has done so much for you, he's just asking for a little money, isn't that reasonable?" Alina was very happy to see her angry and deliberately said things to provoke her.
Gabeiel also strongly agreed with Alina . "Alina is right, you need to be grateful! Giving this money is not difficult for you, I don't understand why you are unwilling!"
Cassidy lowered her head and smiled bitterly, finally letting out a long sigh.
Aubree keenly noticed Cassidy's change and immediately stepped in to mediate. "Alright, stop talking, Cassidy is obviously thinking about the Monroe family, otherwise she wouldn't have come back today!"
She walked over, trying to hold Cassidy's hand to comfort her, but Cassidy looked up at her, clearly unwilling to be approached.
Aubree laughed awkwardly, not caring about Cassidy's reaction. "Cassidy, Gabeiel's attitude was not right today, but he is just worried about the family's business, please don't be angry at him, okay? You haven't been back for a long time, Gabeiel was very happy when he knew you were coming back, he had the servants clean your room several times!"
She continued, "Let's have a good rest, then we can talk again, okay?"
Gabeiel snorted coldly but said nothing, Alina wanted to speak but received a warning glare from Aubree.
Cassidy knew that even if she stayed another night, she wouldn't give Gabeiel the money.
But she came back today mainly to retrieve her mother's belongings, Gabeiel might change his mind tomorrow and give them to her if he really wanted her money.
So she nodded in agreement.
As soon as she agreed, Gabeiel and Aubree both breathed a sigh of relief, only Alina was a bit displeased.
Then Cassidy stayed in her room until dinner time.
At the dinner table, besides their family, Alina also brought her fiancé. "Cassidy, this is my fiancé Kevin Phillips, you rarely come back, so I specially brought him to meet you."
Alina held Kevin's arm, leaning her face on his shoulder, looking very affectionate.
Cassidy just glanced at them, her expression unchanged.
She knew very well what Alina was thinking, bringing Kevin over was not just to introduce them, more to make her jealous, right?
After all, her husband had passed away.
Seeing Cassidy silent, Alina thought she had successfully provoked her, feeling very pleased.
During the meal, Alina occasionally fed Kevin, but her eyes were always on Cassidy.
What she didn't know was that although Kevin accepted her feeding and even fed her back, his peripheral vision was always on Cassidy, watching her actions.
Cassidy certainly noticed his gaze, and it made her very uncomfortable, but she didn't want to argue with Alina at the table, so she endured it.
"Cassidy, when you were at the Cooper Manor, was your husband good to you?" Alina asked with a smile, her voice completely devoid of malice, like normally caring about her sister's relationship.
Cassidy glanced at her, and Alina immediately covered her mouth in surprise, speaking with some regret, "Sorry Cassidy, I forgot your husband has passed away, I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable."
What a clumsy performance.
Cassidy put down her knife and fork, elegantly wiped her mouth with a napkin, then looked at Alina. "You have no idea what my husband had done for me."
Ashton gave her all the warmth and protection she didn't get from the Monroe family. Although she was initially resistant to marrying him, his gentleness and thoughtfulness gradually won her over.
"But I'm really surprised that you're already engaged." She then smiled at Gabeiel. "Gabeiel, I'm really curious."
What benefits could Alina's marriage bring to the Monroe family?
Her unspoken words were clear in her eyes, and Gabeiel remembered her suggestion in the study.
She said he was good at selling daughters, maybe he could use Alina's marriage to get some money. His face face turned ugly, Cassidy knew he understood her meaning, and she was satisfied.
Jealousy was almost overflowing from Alina's eyes.
Although Cassidy married a man old enough to be her father, she knew he left Cassidy a large sum of money after his death.
Ashton had several sons, why did he leave those assets to Cassidy after his death!
"Too bad Mr. Cooper died too early, making you a widow at your best age." She wanted to continue provoking Cassidy, but before Cassidy could respond, she heard Kevin's voice, "Alina, don't say that, I'm sure Cassidy is very sad about losing her husband."
Alina looked at him in surprise, just as she was about to question him, he held her hand. "But Cassidy knows you mean no harm, she won't blame you."
Alina thought he was defending Cassidy, but it turned out he was speaking for her. She looked at Cassidy proudly, but Cassidy just gave Kevin a cold look.
