Chapter 28 Seen better

Chapter 28 Seen better
MAELIS ARDENT POV

I drop myself on the bed like a bomb as soon as I enter the room. What the fuck just happened? I wash my palms all over my face as I tug my hair in frustration. How the hell did that just happen? Roll myself at bed as I tried hitting my head on the bed.

“What the fuck are you thinking?!” I said in a muffled voice.

I turned myself and stared at the ceiling as I remembered how his soft lips touched mine and how his hand could make me feel like a bolt of electricity was entering my body.

“Oh god Maelis, what are you letting yourself give in?” I said as I pressed my eye shut.

I COULD HEAR the water pouring inside the bathroom. I can’t believe that I fell asleep while waiting for him to finish cooking. I looked around and saw Lucien’s clothes on the bedside table, which made my eyes widen, and I immediately sat up.

I quickly fixed myself and was about to get out of bed when I heard the bathroom door open and a man’s voice speak behind me.

“You’re finally awake, the food is ready.” He said, and I gulped before speaking.

“Y-yeah, I…I fell asleep.” I said, trying not to turn around as I tried to move a little,

“Let’s eat then, I’m hungry.” He said, and could hear him walking towards the bed.

I took a deep breath and laughed awkwardly. “Y-yeah, sure,” I said and tried to move with my back turned to him.

“Is there something wrong? Why walk around like that?” He asks, and I bite my lower lip.

“Ahm, i---I had a stiff neck, I’ll just go for you outside,” I said book it out of the room.

I breathe heavily as I make it out of the room. I fan my hand over to myself as I catch my breath. I was about to make my way to the living area when I stopped after taking a step, and I realized that there are 4 other people there looking at me.

“Ms.? Are you okay?” Basil asks while sitting in the living area.

Terrence suddenly burst out laughing. “This is amazing!” He said, laughing while the others are clearly trying to contain their laugh and Basil looked at them, confused.

“Don’t go walk barefoot,” I heard a voice say behind me, a pair of slippers where place o the floor beside my feet.

Basil's expression quickly changes as his eyes widen open and his hand covers his mouth.
“All you, leave.” I heard him say beside me. “Basil, remind me to kill that one later,” Lucien said as he pointed at Terrence, who was still laughing.

“Why didn’t you tell me they’re here!” I exclaimed to him in a whisper as I turned to face him.

“I told them to leave earlier after they brought the things I asked them, but I didn’t know I stayed.” He explained.

“But----” I said, but stopped as I looked down and saw him standing there with a towel draped around his waist.

“My eyes are up here.” He said and used his index finger to lip my face, and a smirked is written all over his face.

“Lucien!” I said hissed at him in irritation.

“Didn’t I say leave?” He said, turning to the people behind us.

“On it, boss.” I heard Basil said.

“Seriously, you could have told me there are other people here!” I said as I heard the door close.

“You run out of the room, how would I tell you?” He said, and I just threw a glare at him and looked away. “You said you have a stiff neck, but look at you,” he said, taking a step towards me. “But you clearly can move, you heard just fine now.” He said I could imagine his face with his mocking smirk.

“Yeah, and what is it to you, huh?” I said confidently as I looked at him, making him laugh. “I think it’s better if you go and get dressed, it’s not too appealing in the eyes,” I said and walked away from him and to the living room as I sat.

I think those words are the greatest lie I ever committed up until today.

“Yeah, you look like you're just a few seconds away from biting me.” He said that almost made my jaw drop on the floor.

That’s true, but does he really have to be that confident about that?!

“Wow, the sheer confidence.” I scoff as I look at him. “For your information, Mr. Allard, I’ve seen better,” I said and smirked and turned around.

I was enjoying the moment of annoying him when I heard a deep voice behind me that made me jump in my seat. “Who?” he said that made me turn around in shock.

I swallowed as I felt my heart beating faster. He is standing in front of me, with his body in front of my face. I could feel my face starting to heat up as I slowly looked up at him. “W-what?” I ask and gulp.

“Who have you seen better?” He said, looking down at me.

Damn it, Lucien, for the love of god please stop looking at me like that.

I felt like I unconsciously help by breath for a second as he stared at me. “I—I don’t know.” I stutter answering him, could see his dark face---but it’s different, it’s more like a jealous face.

“I guess you won’t mind if we eat now, if you claim you’ve seen better, you won’t mind me staying like this.” He said, raising an eyebrow at me.

“Wait, what?” I said when he turned his back on me and walked towards the dining area, making my eyes widen and leaving my mouth open.

“Come, let’s eat.” He said that left me speechless.

“Wait, no. I can’t--- I mean, you can’t,” I said in panic.

He turns around and looks at me, “Why?” He asked and smirked.

“You…you might catch a cold,” I said and nodded and smiled awkwardly. “Yeah, that,” I said and turned around and pulled my shirt to myself as I felt a wave of sudden heat.

“Don’t worry, I don’t easily catch a cold.” He said as I heard the chair move. “Come on, let’s start.” He said, and I turned around as I felt my cheeks getting hotter.

“S-start w-what?” I ask, and he chuckled,

“Eating?” He said, smirking, “Why? What else do you want to start?”
