Bonus [2] : Have You Ever Heard of Stapling Your Lips Together?-7
"Why are you asking him?" Caleb asked. "He had one job and it made that. He's not going through what she's going through, my guy." Toby stared at Caleb with a blank look. "How are you, Caleb?" "Thanks for asking!" He grinned, getting the question he wanted. "I'm great." FOURTEENTH HOUR "You're naming it after me if it's a boy, yes?" Sam and I had decided on names years ago. There was no way we were going to give our child Caleb's name as their first name. "No." I groaned. Despite not feeling the full pain of the contractions, I felt the pressure and what I was focused on was giving birth soon not this segment of Caleb's stupidity on my show of a life. "Why not?" He almost whined. The almost 26-year-old man almost cried the words out. "We have our reasons," Sam said patting him on the back. "Explain those reasons." Caleb urged. He's not serious. "Caleb, shut up," Sam said. "No, I want to know." My irritation was at an all-time high. "Caleb shut the hell up, you dumbegg. Holy shit, you asshole, have you ever heard of stapling your lips together because I will gratefully hand the stapler to you." Sam during my situation decided to laugh, this bastard decided to laugh. Oh my fu- "There's the woman I fell in love with." "Get out. Someone, get them both out." I muttered as the nurse continued their check on me and the baby. "What did we-" "For fuck's sakes, Caleb I will talk to you after not in the middle-" I paused my sentence feeling another the pressure of what would have been a horrible contraction. I've never been so happy that I wasn't feeling the pain anymore. Nevertheless, I gripped Sam's hand so tightly I heard the man wince. I took a deep breath. "In, In the middle of labour. Now go." "10 cm. You're ready." The nurse said. "Finally," My dad said as if he was the one about to give birth. "I'll tell the others. We'll be waiting." He gave me a big smile, pressing a kiss to my forehead before leaving the room. I sighed out in relief happy that Sam was the one beside me when he said, "Let's bring him home, eh?" He tied his curly hair in a bun and he leaned down to press a kiss to the top of my head. "Let's go, Hazel. You got this." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't remember a time I was ever this exhausted. Or internally cold. I glanced over at Sam who gave me a smile. He kissed me on the forehead and mumbled. "You did it." "Where is he?" I asked quietly. "They went to clean him up." He informed me as everyone proceeded to enter the room. Andrew grabbed a chair, settling next to the hospital bed. When he grabbed my other hand, he pressed a kiss to the back of it. "Where's little Andrew?" "We're not calling him Andrew," I said with a tired laugh. "I didn't think you would." He said and then looked at me. "You look like shit." "Shut up," I mumbled, and he laughed. "Good job Mace-Chase." "You guys haven't called her that in years," Justin muttered. Toby leaned forward, pressing a kiss to my cheek. "You okay?" "Yeah," I sighed. "I want to sleep after seeing him first." "It's a boy?" My father eyes widened. "Yeah," Sam said, his eyes flickering to the door when it opened, and the nurse came in with our child wrapped in a blanket. She brought him towards me and I held him in my arms. And at that moment as I laid my eyes upon the little person in my arms, everything shifted. I may not have felt it at that moment, but I was aware of the change as the years progressed. My son's eyes were closed, almost squinting as he adjusted to the light in the room. Nothing else was more important, nothing else would matter but him. But him and our future children. No one else but them. Sam shifted in the bed, his arm around me as he peered at his child, his eyes a little wide, almost in awe. As we both stared down at him, I had a feeling that Sam felt the same way. "Did you choose a name?" The nurse asked, interrupting the moment. Sam and I exchanged a glance and I nodded in agreement on the name he had chosen those years ago. "We decided to name him Charles." In the corner of my eye, I heard the tiniest gasp of shock come from Vince at the mention of his father's name. I looked at Caleb directly when I said. "Charles Caleb Cahill." Caleb almost jumped. No, seriously, he looked like he was about to spring into the air despite him already standing. "You're lying!" "No, no we're not," Sam said. I didn't have an issue with it. If anything, I was more than happy about it. Caleb was one of the most, if not the most significant person in Sam's life since they met in middle school. Caleb had helped him in ways Sam knew he would never be able to return. He figured it was the least he could do. He also figured that naming our son after the two most influential people in his life would link him to them in some way. Caleb's eyes went from the kid to me and Sam then back to the baby constantly, his lips parted in shock. He really didn't think we would do it. He moved over to us, looking at Charles with awe. "Can I hold him?" I handed him over to Caleb who handled him with care. "You're little Caleb." "Charles." Phillip corrected. "Same difference," Caleb said, not moving his eyes from the baby. "You're going to be the greatest kid. You already have my name, you're destined for greatness." "Oh my, God." I heard Liz say. "We're never going to hear the end of this." Sam groaned. "You're little C. Triple C's. Iconic." "Caleb, give Charlie back to his parents before you have a whole conversation with someone who can't even reply to you," Justin said. "I like Charlie," Elena said, twisting her neck in Ivan's hold to look at me. I looked at Sam with his tied-up bun that was a mess. I put my hand on his hair, taking the band out and letting his hair fly out. "Now you, as much as I love your hair and how lazy you've been to cut it, cut it. After today I'm not allowing you to take pictures with our child looking like a caveman." He pushed his hair up and out of his face. "After today?" "Are you not going to take a picture of you with your child?" I heard Toby mutter. "Honestly and I thought Ivan was slow." Ivan scowled. "Fuck off." My father handed the nurse the camera he had held for me since yesterday afternoon. I looked at the people behind the nurse. "Are you all not going to get in the picture? You're family too, yes?" The way everyone scrambled to get in the shot made me laugh tiredly. But when the picture was taken, I looked at it on the screen of my camera with a smile on my face. I still look at that picture with a smile on my face whenever I see it.
