Chapter 320 The Days are Numbered
Vivian had just opened the door to the ward and saw Margaret walking toward her.
Margaret also saw her and immediately asked, "Have you finished talking so soon? Can we leave now?"
"Yes." Vivian nodded and quickened her pace to walk beside Margaret. "Are you hungry, Grandmother? We haven't had lunch yet."
"I was starving a long time ago," Margaret said. "My stomach was hurting from hunger when I was at the police station, but now I don't feel hungry anymore. How about we just go home directly? I feel it's better to have a meal at home comfortably."
"Sounds good! Let's go back and eat." Vivian also realized that she had been too careless today.
Even without the fervent fans of Lindsay and Owen today, Vivian could still attract Quinton at any time, so she shouldn't have taken her grandmother along with her so recklessly.
But she still needed to make more appearances herself.
Just as she was thinking this, her phone suddenly rang. It was Brevard.
Vivian immediately answered the phone. "Hello, what's up, Doctor Herrera?"
Brevard's voice on the phone sounded a bit weary. "It's the weekend. Are you not at home?"
"Yeah, what's up?" Vivian thought for a moment and said, "Are you looking for me? You aren't waiting downstairs at my place now, are you?"
"Yeah." Brevard sighed softly. "I rang the doorbell downstairs at your place for a few minutes, thinking you were home, but nobody answered the door."
Vivian immediately explained, "I went out with my grandmother. What's the matter? Can you tell me over the phone?"
"This can't be resolved over the phone," Brevard said helplessly. "I just came back from the hospital. A patient who was discharged this morning gave me a big box of pomegranates. I didn't want them, but he insisted on giving them to me.
"Ethan told me to take good care of you before leaving, so as soon as I got the fresh fruit, I rushed over to give them to you. I rarely come to your place. I didn't expect that you wouldn't be home today."
"Is that all?" Vivian smiled. "It's just a box of pomegranates. You could have left them at the hospital or given them to others."
"Shut up," Brevard retorted. "I brought them all back. So, how long until you come back?"
"Why? You're not planning on waiting downstairs at my place, are you?"
"You wish! I just finished the night shift. All I want to do now is sleep. I left them at the property management office. You can pick them up yourself when you get back."
"Okay, thank you, Dr. Herrera."
"Not at all, Ms. Swain! Just think of me next time if you have something good."
Vivian and Margaret didn't want to wander outside anymore and quickly returned to Harmony Heights.
Passing by the property front desk, Vivian grabbed some pomegranates.
Upon arriving home and opening the box, she saw each pomegranate as big as two fists, looking fresh and appetizing.
Vivian casually took a photo and sent it to Brevard.
She also sent a line of text. "Great quality. It was worth you specially bringing them back."
After sending the message, she didn't expect a reply from Brevard, as he was probably sleeping.
However, he immediately responded, "It would be even better if I could taste it."
Vivian promptly sent him a voice message. "You're not sleeping?"
Brevard replied immediately, sounding much more energetic than when he called her earlier. "I'm not feeling sleepy after taking a shower. But I still need to sleep. I plan to sleep until seven o'clock in the evening and then have dinner."
"Alright, I won't disturb you then."
Vivian sent a voice message in response and then began to peel a pomegranate.
However, not long after, she was called into the kitchen by Margaret to help.
By the time they finished dinner, it was already half past seven in the evening.
After dinner, Margaret washed the dishes while Vivian continued to peel the pomegranate.
Margaret peeked out of the kitchen and said, "Didn't you peel several of them? That's enough to eat. Peeling too many will cause them to turn black."
"I'm going to send some over to Brevard," Vivian explained, "as a way to thank him."
"Oh," Margaret exclaimed at the mention of Brevard, "why didn't you say so earlier? He lives alone, right? If I knew earlier, I would have invited him over for dinner."
"It's okay," Vivian replied. "He may have just woken up. He has his own plans, and our dinner time might be too early for him. He's a grown man. He won't starve himself. But Grandmother..."
"What's wrong? Why do you start saying something and then stop halfway? Speak up." Margaret urged Vivian as she turned around.
Vivian also looked back at Margaret, frowning slightly as she said, "It would be nice if you treated Ethan the same way."
Margaret paused.
How could she treat Ethan nicely? Just the thought of Kaysen mistreating her son and grandson and favoring Ethan's father and Ethan made her seethe with anger.
How could she possibly be good to Ethan? It was simply impossible!
Even at that moment, just thinking about it made her hands tremble with rage.
However, she couldn't show any of these emotions in front of her granddaughter.
After standing in place for a while to calm herself down, she said to Vivian, "Alright. When he comes back from this business trip, you two can come back for dinner in the evening, and I will cook delicious food for you every day."
"Okay," Vivian smiled gently. "Let's take it slow. We have a long future ahead of us."
"Yeah..." Margaret echoed.
But she did not think that Ethan could have a much longer time!
...
Vivian quickly finished peeling a large pomegranate.
After wiping her hands, she immediately called Ethan.
When Ethan was in Amorita, the two of them were not always together, but after he went abroad, the feeling seemed different.
Even though he had only left for two days, Vivian felt as if he had been gone for a long time, far away from her.
However, at that moment, Ethan's phone was unreachable, showing that it was in an ongoing call.
After trying twice, Vivian stopped trying, knowing he must be busy working and would call her back when he had time.
So she called Brevard instead.
Because she planned to send the pomegranate over.
It was quite a coincidence that Brevard's phone was also busy when Vivian tried to call him.
Without much thought, Vivian directly sent him a message.
"Are you at home? I'm planning to visit you. Reply to me if you got my message."
However, what she didn't expect was that Ethan and Brevard were both on the phone together.
They were discussing Margaret's matter.
Ethan said, "The investigation into Margaret has made a breakthrough, revealing a possible connection between her and my grandfather in the past. It's better to have a face-to-face talk. Can you go there to discuss further? I am unable to return at the moment."
